In the end, Amrita gets pregnant, she decides to be single mother but made her mind to be out
of this toxic relation.
STUDY OF PAMELA AND BOLLYWOOD CHARACTER AMRITA
Pamela was assaulted by Mr. B several
times but still in the end with only one act of
love from Mr. B she gets married to him,
forgiving him all the physical and mental
trauma she went through.
Amrita stands strong against whole society,
even her mother. Vikram was perhaps not a
bad person but under the pressure of office
work he hit his wife. He hit her only once but
Amrita was not at all ready to accept it. She
was ready to forget their happy moment but
not to forgive his one slap.
Pamela was working as a maid, she was
financially independent woman but we can
say that in greed to be a part to upper class
society she got married.
Amrita was not financially independent woman,
She could have been. After she gets divorced
the society vision towards her would also
change but still she was ready to face
everything and give birth to a child.
We see that Pamela made efforts to move out of that life, estate. But we feel that she gave up
faster and didn't do any major efforts or second try. We interpret that she chose to marry
because is she wouldn’t society would comment on her character.
While Amrita very passionately and strongly even after
no-one except her father was supporting, she was ready to
fight and come out of relation.
By the study of Pamela's character we realize that women
are the prison of domestic walls.
Women locks herself and the key is also with herself. It is a difficult task of women to free
themselves from their socio- cultural construction. Women needs to fight against her family and
the construction society has inherent.
CONCLUSION
Simone de Beauvoir in her book ‘The second sex’ stated
‘One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.’
Women of 21st century are comparatively free than before, but it is not a moment to celebrate
there seems a long way to attain equality.
There are many ongoing battles to free oneself from the society’s social and culture chains
and taboos.
We can say that the attempts of great female representative like Virginia Woolf is not wasted
women are getting more space than before but fight is still on.
