2. Rich Media in Education
In very simple terms, rich media means
using several different kinds of media to
create a stimulating and interesting user
experience:
3. When is Rich Media Effective?
Research suggests that students with little
to no prior knowledge of the subject
benefit more from multimedia...
...whereas advanced learners with lots of
prior knowledge are more able to process
“traditional” learning methods.
Therefore, children and beginners
benefit more from use of multimedia
than people who are advanced.

Tools that come with Windows: Adobe Programs:

Helpful hint: Use the “PrtSc” button to send
a shot of your screen to the clipboard. You

Photoshop, or any other image editing
software.
18. Be Careful!
Common problems:
Not using enough multimedia to engage a
beginner learner.
Using too much multimedia with advanced
learners, when just text would be more
efficient.
Making great media, but not documenting
the students' reactions or what they
learned.
19. A Nice Example:
As you watch the following video, be
prepared to answer the following
questions:
What problems does he point out in this
video?
Have you personally experienced any of
those problems in the classroom?
How do you think some of those problems
could be solved?
