Renovated Dining Room
RIVERDALE, N.Y. (July 11, 2013) -- Bon Secours New York Health System’s Schervier Nursing
Care Center, specializing in long-term and rehabilitation care in the Riverdale section of The
Bronx, unveiled its newly renovated dining room for short-term sub-acute rehabilitation
patients and marked its reopening by hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 21, 2013.
“We are excited for our residents and staff to use the new dining room,” said Dominic
D’Ambrosio, Administrator at Schervier. “Since initiating the project in mid-April, we’ve
been working tirelessly to make conscious decisions in the renovation to further enhance
the rehabilitation experience for our residents and patients. We carefully evaluated
everything from menu options and nutritional needs to the height and logistics of the
countertop, chairs, and tables to best meet the needs of our patients.”
Schervier’s 1 South Dining Room underwent substantial renovations to make the space as
functional as possible, and to meet the needs, preferences and safety requirements of
residents and patients. The state-of-the-art dining room boasts new flooring, lighting,
finishes,
appliances, furnishings, and customized menus. Additionally, the redesigned dining room
will significantly improve the dining experiences of residents and visitors, while providing
staff members with the necessary resources to be able to provide the highest quality of
service to its rehabilitation patients.
“Our vision was to create a bistro-like atmosphere to increase engagement and foster
relationships and socialization among our residents,” said Regina Trujillo, Assistant Director
of Food and Nutrition at Schervier. “We know that making the transition to a nursing care
facility can bring on sadness, and at times feelings of depression, and wanted to provide our
residents with a warm, inviting place that they could share a meal and a conversation with
one another.”
The program for the ribbon cutting ceremony included a blessing from Fr. Anthony, the
official ribbon cutting, remarks, acknowledgments, a tour of the new dining room, and
refreshments. Schervier’s CEO, Carlos Beato, was joined by D’Ambrosio, Joe Viviano,
Regional Vice President with Morrison Management Specialists, and Keith Smalls, Director
of Facilities for BSNY, for the ribbon cutting.
“This project will serve as a springboard for our future improvement initiatives as we look
to create a more engaged culture and environment across our campus,” said Beato. “We
are committed to providing our patients and residents with the highest level of care and
to providing our staff with resources they need to ensure that the level of care is
delivered consistently.”
