Henry Ford revolutionized automobile production with the assembly line and the affordable Model T. He was fascinated by machinery as a boy and left home to become a machinist. In the 1890s, he began working on gasoline-powered vehicles and founded the Detroit Automobile Company. In 1903, he started the Ford Motor Company to produce affordable cars for ordinary people. The Model T, introduced in 1908, became the best-selling car for 20 years due to its affordability and efficiency. Ford also treated his workers well, paying them higher wages than competitors, and produced cars on an innovative moving assembly line for increased output.

A multi-paragraph essay that summarizes and explains at least three ways Ford impacted American life.
You must include at least three pieces of textual evidence. A thesis, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Must use evidence from these 2 sources below. It can be either from passage 1 or 2. Passages are below.
Passage 1
“The Boy Who Took Things Apart”
1
There once was a boy named Henry who liked to disassemble things to understand how they worked. Once he dismantled a friend’s watch and then put it back together. It worked perfectly. When Henry became an adult, he once said, “Every clock in the house shuddered when it saw me coming.”
2
Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863, on his family’s farm near Dearborn, Michigan. He was always fascinated with mechanical devices. His preoccupation with mechanical things prompted him to travel to nearby Detroit, Michigan. Detroit was a growing industrial city, and Henry had no problem finding work at the Detroit Dry Dock Company. There he saw the type of engine he would later use to manufacture automobiles. When he was 28, Henry Ford went to work at Thomas Edison’s Detroit Illuminating Company as a mechanical engineer. He was soon promoted to chief engineer, but he had loftier goals.
3
In his spare time, he tinkered with gasoline-powered engines and bicycle parts. His tinkering paid off in 1896 when he completed his first vehicle. He called his invention a “Quadricycle.” The vehicle ran on four bicycle tires powered by a two-cylinder gasoline engine. Onlookers, some of whom said it looked like a baby carriage with an engine, came to see Ford’s invention on its first test-drive. Unfortunately, the Quadricycle broke down after a short run. This minor failure did not discourage Henry Ford.
4
Ford began again. By 1899, he completed another vehicle that resembled a motorcar. It had high wheels, a padded bench, brass lamps, and mudguards. The same year he introduced his improved Quadricycle, he established the Detroit Automobile Company. In 1901, he raced his new Quadricycle against what was then the world’s fastest automobile. Before a crowd of 8,000 people, Henry Ford easily won the race.
5
Building on the publicity received from his victory, Ford was able to secure financing for facilities in which to refine his ideas. By 1903, he began his own company called The Ford Motor Car Company. By January of the following year, he had sold 658 vehicles. When he opened The Ford Motor Car Company, he said, “I will build a car for the great multitude.” He did so by offering the Model T at an affordable $950. During the nineteen years the Model T was in production, 15,500,000 were sold in the United States alone.
6
Henry Ford is remembered for more than affordable automobiles. He modernized manufacturing methods. As a boy, he took apart a $3 watch and examined the parts, figuring out that the watch could actually be made at a cost of thirty-seven cents each if the manufacturer would produce thousands of.

Revolution of Industry by Henry Ford
1. Revolution of Industry by:
Henry Ford
Great words:You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.
By Jairaj Jangle
2. The Early Years
Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863.He was born on a
farm near Dearborn, Michigan.
Henry Ford only went to school for eight years. As a young
boy he was fascinated with how things worked.
As a young man, Ford knew that he didn’t want to work on
the farm. He left home to work as a machinist.
3. The Inventing Years and Career
In 1896, Henry Ford completed his first vehicle that was
powered by gasoline instead of steam like other cars of his
time. This car was called the Quadricycle.
In 1891, Ford began working with
a famous inventor named Thomas
Edison at a company called The
Edison Illuminating Co.
4. Ford resigned from the Edison
Company and founded the Detroit
Automobile Company.
Ultimately, the company was not
successful and was dissolved in
1901.
He need to produce what people in mass actually wanted:
Lower cost, higher horsepower.
5. Ford Motor Company
In 1903, Ford started his own company called the Ford Motor
Company.
He wanted to make cars that the ordinary person, like you
and me, could afford.
On October 1, 1908, after lots of hard work, Ford introduced
his new car. It was called the Model T.
6. Henry wanted to build more cars in a faster way.
So in 1913-1914, Henry and his engineers designed
conveyor belts that ran down long tables carrying parts and
pieces that needed to be put together.
This allowed him to produce more cars in a shorter amount
of time.
7. • Ford, like other automobile companies, entered the
aviation business during World War I, building Liberty
engines.
8. Ford knew that success of a company lies in the happiness of
the workers, which then were treated as slaves.
His workers were well-paid and well-treated. They were
proud to work at the Ford Motor Company.
He said: “A business that makes nothing but money is a poor
business.”
9. The Model T was
introduced on October 1,
1908, it was best selling
car for 20 years.
It had for first time
steering on left, enclosed
transmission and enclosed
cylinders, looked attractive.
10. So What Henry Ford did?
He:
• Did not invent the horseless carriage
• Did not invent the internal combustion engine
• Did not invent mass production of car strategy
• Did not invent the automobile industry
• Did not invent interchangeable parts in car assembly.
11. He:
• Revolutionized production by introducing a moving
assembly line for faster and reliable production
• In doing so he made a car for masses: The Ford Model T
• He treated his company workers good by paying them
more wages(no controversies in consideration).
12. What should we learn from
Ford?
• Innovation = Success, but Innovation without execution is
just hallucination.
• Great entrepreneurs not only put ideas in motion but they
commit to them mentally as well.
• Know Your Market: how you engage with potential clients
and customers is just as relevant.
• Reputation, Reputation, Reputation
• Efficiency is King
• Move Toward Your Goals
13. Thank You
”Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably
the reason so few engage in it.”
-Henry Ford
Editor's Notes
He loved to take apart watches to see how they functioned. Soon he was able to put watches back together and even fixed ones that broke.
He was later hired by the Westinghouse company to service their steam engines.
Here his creativity was sparked and he began inventing. He wanted to make a gasoline powered engine.
However, the automobiles produced were of a lower quality and higher price than Ford wanted.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.
But making one car was very expensive and took a long time to build. Only wealthy people were able to afford cars.
He wondered if he could find a way to help the workers to get the materials they needed quickly.
While his workers worked, Ford watched them closely and noticed that they spent a lot of time getting the materials they needed to do the job. It took the workers a long time to build a car.
Instead of the worker walking to the car, the car came to the worker who stayed in one place. Each worker had only one job to do and then the car would move on.
Before the assembly line, it took 14 hours to build one car. With the assembly line, workers could build one car every 93 minutes. This meant that Ford could make more cars to sell at a cheaper price. Now many more people could afford to buy a car.
After the war, it returned to auto manufacturing until 1925.
With all of the cars Ford could now make and sell, he needed more workers in his factories.
He decided to pay them $5.oo an hour and started an 8 hour workday.
Thus Henry Ford was successful in building a product which every common man could buy
In using his foresight and tenacity to succeed, the production system that Ford created epitomized the efficient, systemized, successful model that all business owners, entrepreneurs and freelancers strive for today.
