Louis Chevrolet co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1911 in Detroit with William Durant, who had previously hired Chevrolet to promote Buick cars. They formed the company with investors to build upon Chevrolet's reputation as a racer. Honda's founder Soichiro Honda had an early interest in cars and racing, and founded a piston ring company in 1937 that eventually won a contract to supply Toyota after Honda improved his understanding of quality control processes. Henry Ford launched the Ford Motor Company in 1903 with $28,000 from investors, and within a decade it led in refining assembly line production which brought more processes in-house.
