This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching first grade students with special needs the months of the year. The lesson plan will have the teacher write the months on the smartboard for students to repeat, allow each student to write a month, and use a YouTube video and website quiz to reinforce learning. To assess understanding, students will create calendars and the teacher will give a group quiz with flashcards. The objective is for students to learn the months of the year with 90% accuracy over two weeks through hands-on group work and technology.

A (Analyze The Audience)- The audience that I will be teaching is a classroom of first graders
who require special education. There are 17 students: 10 male, 7 female, and 7 of them have
ADHD. The race of the students varies, they consist of 70% white, 20% African-American, and
10% Hispanic.
S (State The Objective)- My first grade class will learn the months of the year. I will begin the
lesson by writing the months of the year on the smartboard and have the class repeat them out
loud with me. I will then call each student to the board and let them write each month
underneath what I have already written. This will help in familiarizing each student with the
months of the year. Once the students develop an understanding of the 12 months of the year I
will then use a YouTube video that sings a song about the twelve months of the year to
familiarize the students of the sequential order of the 12 months. To ensure that the students
have a complete understanding of the months of the year I will allow them to use this website
to complete a puzzle quiz. Once there is a full understanding of the months the students will
create a calendar out of construction paper using markers, and glue to present to the class. . I
expect that the students will complete this objective with 90% accuracy in a two week time
period.
S (Select Methods, Media, Material)- The methods of achieving the objective stated above
involve working together in groups and using hands on activities. The media will consist of a
smart board, flash cards, show and tell, and overhead projectors, YouTube, and a web 2.0
application for first graders. The materials used in this activity are scissors, construction paper,
glue, and crayons.
U (Utilize Media and Material)- I will utilize the media and material by using a projector to
show short videos to help aid in the memorization of the months of the year.
R (Require Learner Participation)- I will require learner participation by working in groups and
having group discussions about the objective.
E (Evaluate and Revise)- I will evaluate the knowledge of the students by having a group quiz
using the flash cards. I will present the flash cards out of order and ask each child to recite the
month that is written on the card.
