New Dwellings ii) Practical CompletionCertification
3. Numerous refurbishments including floor and roof and foundation strengthening, including
subsidence and piling
4. Design review of residential, university and hospital accommodationfor Jubail Industrial City
that was, in most cases, in-situ concrete of various construction forms. Floor plates could be
flat-slab, beam and block, beam and in-situ, hollowcore prestress. Support frames could be i)
concrete core and shearwall ii) concrete moment frame iii) braced structural steel and precast
slab. Storey heights were tyically in the order of 8 to 12 storeys.
Retail:
1. Expansion of existing Automotive Franchise
Design of 2 x Facilities with Showroom & Office Administration& Car Service Area
Supervision of Structural Analysis & Design and resulting completionof Tender &
Construction Issue Drawings & Specifications ( 3 x Structural Engineers )
Liasing with in-house Architects and M&E for structural interfacing and avoidance of clashes
Conceptual Design of Related Civil and Siteworks and review of outsourced detailed designand
related drawings
2. Conversion of numerous existing small to medium size retail premises for modernisation and
conversion into mixed residential/retail/office use.
Typically involved i) site survey of existing premises ii) planning permission & fire certification
and iii) completionof working drawings iv) attending design review meetings
3. Numerous grocery stores while in employement of another Consulting Engineer Firm
performing structural analysis amd design and detailing of steel frame/metal clad buildings /
masonry external and internal wall panels, internal stud partitions, heavy lay-down/delivery
docks and frozen storage areas. A mixture of ground bearing and piled foundation design
depending on site investigation.
4. Analysis and design of structural steel framed shopping malls with external rendered masonry
wall panels and internal partitions of lightweight and heavy duty studwork and/or masonry.
Mixture of groundbearing and pile foundations pending on Site Investigation. Typically single
storey with metal joist and steel clad roofs. Worked with drafting developing plans and marking
locationsfrom which an in-house developed library of standard details and sections could be
applied.
Industrial & Municipal:
1. Numerous structural analysis& design and detailing of steel frame/metal clad buildings for
storage of materialsand varied industrial related workshop activity involving long span and
open space requirments.
2. Structural Analysis & Design & Site Supervision of numerous industrial scale composting
facilitiesinvolving heavy duty structural steel frames / concrete groundbearing and suspended
pavement slabs / industrial waste and stormwater drainage schemes and heavy duty foundation
design often requiring retaining walls & groundbearing or piled raft foundations or beam and
concrete slab for product storage yard/areas

3. Detailed Design Review for University Campus in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.Involved numerous
design stage reviews and meetings with outsourced Consulting firms and often required
independent analysis and steel reinforcing design and detailing for both checking and offering
design guideance until construction issue drawings and specifications were completed. This
review took approximately 12 months conducted along with many other on-going project for
this industrial city.
4. Structural Analysis & Design and Detailing for on-site fabrication, shipping and site assembly
of large Industrial Air FiltrationFacilities installed for treating Gas delivered to Turbines for
Power Generation. This work was performed while working for industry leading company
named American Air Filters. The structures were typically a combination of heavy, medium and
light duty steel frames supporting large air filtrationunits & chimney stacks & ducting & access
ramps/ladders& work platforms & foundation bases for various type of mechanical equipment.
( Heavy lift design was a major part of this work for shipping and erection purposes )
5. Performed structural analysis, design and detailing of aspects of a major pharmaceutical plant
while in short-term employment with specialist Consulting Firm, PM Group Ireland. This
involved mostly foundation works that required heavy duty concrete bases and pile supports in
additionto heavy duty structural steelwork.
6. Structural Analysis & Design and Detailing of Public Library in Orlando, Florida while
employed by Gee & Jenson
7. Project Management of Gas Processing facility in Saudi Arabia for 12 months. Involved in
Civil/Structural Design Review from 60% review stage to construction issue. Mobilized to site
and was responsible for i) all site drainage including evaporation/percolationponds ii) all
foundations for process and mechanical equipment including large scale compressors and
tanks iii) all support buildings such as security checkpoints including large scale steel shaded
canopies. This work involved extensive site excavationand management of work front and
ensuring the phasing of different work activities did not clash to create bottle-necks.
Marine & Advanced Foundations & Temporary Works:
While in the employment of Gee & Jenson & Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, duties performed
were structural analysis & design and detailing of concrete piers & wharves & terminal infrastructure
related with international pleasure cruiselines and heavy cargo based in the port of Cape Canveral,
Florida and New York Harbour, NY. On many occasions, this involved site surveys, both above and
below water ( divers ) to assess the i) existing conditionof concrete and timber piles ii) undermining of
foundations caused by scouring iii) conditionsurvey of structure, fenders and iv) traffic caused damage
and wear and tear of movement/expansion joints iv) conditionsurvey of retaining walls including tied-
anchor walls v) on-site observationof site investigations and test pits
While in the employment of Mueser Rutledge, many advanced foundation methods were adopted such as
caisson supported deep raft foundation for multi-story building and often included temporary works
such as sheetpiled cofferdam for storwater drainage pumping station. This included structural analysis,
design and detailing for drafting and complete site supervision of foundation or temporary work scheme
to practical completionstage.
While in the employment of Abbey Pynford, London, UK, design of piled raft foundations for new
houses in soilswith high heave potential was performed, bothanalysis and drafting of individual
schemes. Design of underpinning works to existing houses was also performed.
( The purpose of above is intended to provide an indicative cross-section of work that I have performed
and is not inclusive of all projects, duties and roles performed over my 20 + years of experience )
