State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup Project Director
- Within a highly-visible political environment, managed Arizona Substance Abuse Partnership, composed of high-ranking
professionals and service consumers addressing impact of substance abuse on Arizona, focusing on prescription drug
misuse and abuse epidemic and behavioral health treatment capacity
- Managed Arizona Substance Abuse Epidemiology Work Group tasked with guiding data-driven policy and programmatic
decision-making
- Managed and evaluated a complex set of state and federal funding sources that supported health promotion and substance
abuse prevention as part of a team distributing approximately $20 Million in state and federal funds per annum
- Served as a member of multiple policy steering committees that managed public health approaches to substance abuse
initiatives, including the Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse Initiative, for which Arizona was honored with the 2013
Western Region Outstanding Criminal Justice Program award by the National Criminal Justice Association
- Wrote grant applications, prepared budgets and reports to support program development, implementation and evaluation,
including $7.5 million Screenings, Brief Interventions and Referral to Treatment cooperative agreement awarded to Arizona
by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to guide health systems transformation after identifying
disproportionate impact of substance abuse on northern Arizona
- Managed the Arizona Alliance for Drug Endangered Children and collaborated with the Alliance members to develop and
host a 2-day working forum that identified strategic priorities upon which to build a community response to the needs of
children endangered by drugs
- Analyzed public health problems by systematically evaluating data trends to identify the needs of at-risk populations, and
managed the strategic dissemination of resulting public health data and reports
- Wrote successful application for the State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup contract awarded to Arizona by the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, one of the funding mechanisms by which Arizona has
developed a data-driven substance abuse prevention public health infrastructure
- Served on task forces and advisory groups to achieve policy, systems and environmental change in identified priority areas
- Supported healthy communities and empowered them with the capacity to determine substance abuse-related priorities
and appropriate prevention and intervention programming, apply for funding, evaluate their efforts and advocate for
themselves to policymakers
- Prioritized substance abuse treatment services for families in the child welfare system by assisting in the development of
Executive Order 2008-01
- Prioritized the use of evidence-based programming by writing Executive Order 2013-05, which emphasized that recovery
from substance abuse is possible
- Developed a multi-systemic strategic plan to combat human trafficking
