SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Expanded Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. MPA program at Governors State University (GSU)
had been in decline for several years. Converted program to 80% online with upgraded content, increased student
diversity and re-connected curriculum to other universities. Student enrollment increased 50%.by second year.
Rebuilt 40-year old undergraduate Public Administration program. West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) had
reputation for training city managers but program was struggling. Created four-pronged marketing program to
increase enrollment, developing new course content and more visible public posture. Increased enrollment six-fold.
Evaluated effectiveness of county-level Drug Court in Iowa. Woodbury County, IA had formed novel community
panel approach to drug court. Gathered 10 years of local drug court records and compared findings/histories with
non-participants. Innovative program had lower rates of recidivism and had many positives for the local community.
Revitalized Emergency Management Administration (EMA) program. WTAMU’s Program Director for EMA
abruptly retired. Quickly rebuilt student confidence, upgraded 10-year old curriculum and created state-wide
marketing program to build stronger student pipeline. Increased enrollment from 90 to 320 in 18 months.
Named Program Evaluator for innovative literacy program. Joined novel children’s reading program in Chicago.
Enlisted GSU graduate student for support, encouraging writing graduate thesis on the program as a non-profit
organization. Formalized organizational structure with Board of Directors and features to allow for growth.
Co-Chaired American Society of Public Administration (ASPA) national conference. Asked by President of
national society to serve as National Co-Chair for 2010 annual conference. Worked with ASPA national office to
plan conference program. Success led to election to serve on ASPA National Council for three years.
CAREER HISTORY
Assistant Professor of Public Administration, Governors State University, 2013-Present. Instructor in Masters
and Doctoral-level public administration & non-profit management curriculum. Led initiatives to rebuild MPA
program and convert to online education. Served on various committees to conduct research & enhance learning.
Also, serve as Program Evaluator for Leading with Literacy, a Chicago community-based program.
Assistant Professor of Public Administration, West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), 2007-2013. Served as
coordinator for three programs in Public Administration (PA) and Emergency Management Administration (EMA).
Built a coalition between WTAMU and Texas police and fire fighter organizations and made many contributions to
program development and growth. Concurrently, Lead Program Evaluator for an anti-hunger program for children
in Texas and a novel drug court program in Iowa.
Earlier: Former Intern, Domestic Policy Council at The White House, US House of Representatives and the US
Dept of Health and Human Services. Held honorary rank of Lt. Colonel in the US Air Force.
