This presentation will describe a new literacy: “data literacy”, the analogy with computer literacy, and reasons why this skillet will soon be as essential to all professionals as computer literacy is today. It will address the advent of decision making as the key managerial activity and the resulting democratization of AI and analytics. The presentation will address issues of mindset, as well as skillset, and the ways to acquire a basic level of data literacy to derive value from AI and ML assisted processes in one’s daily tasks.

Ethics in Information Technology. It describes your Ah-haor Eureka moments.
It is hoped that this course made you think about the ethical issues that occur
in your personal and work lives and how to go about making ethical choices.
Please use the ideas you learned from this course; how you will synthesize what
you learned from your research about your topic including - over-arching
issues, readings, discussion from class, and conclusions from other
assignments that apply to your research.
Please address the following elements:
From a class learning perspective, what were some of your “take-aways?”

Experience
OCTOBER 1999 - PRESENT
DTE Energy - Senior Software Engineer / IT Systems Architect
● Developed fuzzy logic algorithms in Java to help optimize the performance of a micro grid of
electricity - like one might find providing power to a shopping mall or apartment complex
● Lead development teams ranging in size from 3 - 12 developers
● Helped develop and teach DTE Energy open systems development and systems
architecture standards using Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, relational and OO database
management systems
● Developed hybrid mobile applications (deployable to both iOS and android) using a
completely MIT licensed stack based on the Ionic framework (for the front end, mobile-first
user experience), Node JS (Express and many associated middle tier packages for business
logic), Mongo DB for the persistence tier and 3DJS (a vector graphics JavaScript library) in
order to bring data alive via animation for the benefit of easily conveying the story of the
business process improvement/issues to all end users including dashboards for senior level
management and business process owners
Used Google Glass ™ to develop solutions for linemen and the DTE Energy field service
organizations

CompusoftIntegratedSolutions - DTE Energy - Software Engineer / IT Systems
Architect
● Helped with the Y2K conversion of the core DTE Energy Billing System
● Specified, developed and testedseveral IT solutions using Open Systems (UNIX, POSIX,
Java, HTML, CSS, W3C conventions and recommendations, etc.) working mostly on teams
ranging in size from 3 to 30 developers for DTE Energy
● Supported several solutions that I did not develop working closely with network engineers,
other peer architects, operations personnel and business process owners
JANUARY 1995 - OCTOBER 1999
AndersenConsulting - business process consultant / IT Systems Architect
● Coregis Insurance Company - Chicago, IL
● Walgreens Pharmacy - Winnetka, IL
● Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm - IL
● Stroh Brewery - Detroit, MI
● DOW Chemical - Midland, MI
Education
SEPTEMBER 1990 - DECEMBER 1994
Universityof Michigan (Ann Arbor Campus) - B.S. Pure Mathematics
I also studied and tutored french and physics, however, did not receive a minor degree in either. I
volunteered in many student organizations. During my senior yearat U of M I worked on an NSF
grant with professor Carl Simon (triple appointment in math, economics and public policy) to help
public health officials make informed decisions using a mathematical model of the spread of AIDS
through a population that he, I and one other student developed. Additionally, I enrolled in the
Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) program and began to pursue a masters degree in IOE
upon completion of my undergraduate degree. I completed courses in linear programming,
stochastic processes, etc. as part of this pursuit, however, I opted to work for Andersen Consulting
and start a family as opposed to completing the IOE degree program. I had dreams of becoming a
mathematics professor and have always thought I would make a good teacher.
