Moreton Bay College is a P-12 Girls’ School on the eastern outskirts of Brisbane. Three years ago the decision was taken at executive level that filtering was not the solution to our students’ cybersafety. In fact, stringent filtering was proving counter productive, as many new and potentially useful Web 2.0 sites were being blocked. The proliferation of 3G devices and the constant battle against proxy bypass sites also meant that filtering as a solution was doomed to failure. This presentation will look at the steps the school has taken to foster a climate of digital citizenship with its students inpreparation for the schools’ 1-to-1 implementation that began this year.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. RESPONSIBLE USE POLICY
PURPOSE STATEMENT
According to the current law of Education (LOE 2/2006) one of the competences the students
need to master is the Digital Competence. Bearing in mind that we are in the 21st
century
surrounded by all kind of digital devices it is our duty as teachers to show our students how to
use them properly.
Our school provides the students and teachers access to technology tools and Internet
resources and it promotes responsible, ethical and appropriate use of technological devices.
To best prepare our students for their future, we want to provide rich learning activities
through this medium, as well as others. The more opportunities students have to share their
learning, the more opportunities they have to be successful.
The students of the 3rd
year of ESO of IES BADAIA BHI use technology to learn, to make
presentations (www.prezi.com), to create short stories (www.powtoon.com), to make a news
programme (www.youtube.com, digital cameras and smartphones) and as a means to
communicate with other students around the world (pen-pals) through emails and video chat
conferences (www.skype.com, www.appear.in.com)
These tools are the ones most frequently used in our classroom. Others may be introduced
throughout the year with proper guidance. We will create a safe online environment for all of
our students.
ACCEPTABLE USE: HOW TO BE A DIGITAL CITIZEN
Information and technology is used in a safe, legal, and responsible way. It is important that
we educate our students on what this means before we start using technology. The
conversation must continue throughout our work. Here are the guidelines to be a digital
citizen:
1. The use of the Internet and network resources must be in support of the educational
programs.
2. Respect Yourself. Online names that are appropriate will be selected, the information and
images that are posted online will be considered by the student and the teacher.
3. Protect Yourself. Personal details will not be published.
4. Respect Others. Hate mail, discriminating remarks, profanity, inappropriate language and
offensive communications are prohibited.
5. Bullying, Cyberbulling and harassment is prohibited.
5. Students will be responsible for damages to equipment, systems and software resulting
from deliberate or willful acts.
6. Protect Others. Unauthorized access, deletion or modification of passwords, files and data
belonging to other users is prohibited. Staff and students should report any security problems
to school administration.
7. All use of websites, books, media, etc. will be suitably cited.
Failure to follow the procedures and prohibitions listed above may result in the loss of the
right of access to network resources and/or disciplinary action.
2. PRIVACY AND PROTECTION MEASURES
We have developed our new school website (https://sites.google.com/a/badaiabhi.net/ies-
badaia-bhi/) and blog (http://iesbadaiabhi.blogspot.com.es/ ). This gives us the opportunity to
communicate with our school community. Since our school hosts these websites, we are able
to ensure they are only viewable by the groups that we choose. Students and teachers will also
have the option to make any pages or post “private”, only viewable to those they choose.
Although there would eventually be an opportunity to open these sites globally, we want to
ensure that we are thoughtful of every step in the process.
Students are expected to protect the security of their personal information, passwords and
identity by keeping them confidential.
This responsible use policy (RUP) supports our vision of technology use and upholds in our
students a strong sense of digital citizenship and identity.
For more information on the tools that will be used, the aforementioned websites can be
visited. Further details on state standards on education can be found on the “Ley Orgánica
2/2006, de 3 de mayo, de Educación.”
For further information please contact the Principal of the school [email address].
