Lifelong learning programs are cropping up at colleges and universities all across the U.S. as research is showing that study following retirement improves the quality of life and in some cases, the health, of retirees. Kendal at Oberlin believes in supporting learning as a way of enriching retirement and providing a continual path to self-improvement. View our brief presentation “The A-B-C’s of Lifelong Learning Opportunities” to discover the benefits of continuing your education through one of these programs.

In this edition of The Knowledge Review, we bring you “The 10 Best International Schools in the USA” that welcome students without worrying about their nationality and strive to educate them and turn them into responsible citizens of the world.
Public schools stand at the threshold of a system that has behind them a history of over five decades of testing for identification and accountability since ESEA was first enacted. In front of them is a landscape that is shaped by dramatic changes in demographics: ever changing technology; significant generational differences; and, policy changes at both the federal and state level that could deliver long sought after changes to top down accountability concepts. As educators, we can stand in the threshold, teaching and leading based on our past, or we can step through the door and facilitate learning in this new and constantly shifting environment.
51% of school children attending public schools in America live in poverty based on the federal definition. We have disaggregated student demographic data as it relates to achievement for many years to determine improvement initiatives. In recent years we have experienced significant increases in the costs associated with remedial instruction and special education; both while overall student enrollment in most rural schools is decreasing. The percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch has reached all-time highs in many rural, suburban, and urban public schools. What are the implications of all this in the schoolhouse when it comes to learning, teaching and leading?

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

11. INNOVATIONAL EDUCATORS
• Brilliant innovational speakers, teachers,
entrepreneurs all trying to bring attention to the
same thing: OUR FAILING PUBLIC EDUCATION
SYSTEM THAT REFUSES TO CHANGE
17. HOW MANY MORE REASONS DO WE
NEED TO BEGIN USING THESE
RESOURCES?
18. WHERE ARE OUR
PRIORITIES?
“If we cannot fully fund our public schools how can we
expect things like the achievement gap to close or high
school graduation rates to rise? It was understandable that
budgets had to be slashed when the bottom dropped out of
the economy but now that we are in a more stable place, it is
time to get back to funding what matters most: the
education of our K-12 students.”

19. CC: AMERICA
By Deborah Pacheco Chandler – “So they tell
me…that’s not professional…I say, by who’s
standards? We are ALL different! Did you know
some curse words are so intolerable students’
are removed from class rooms, deemed
unteachable, slapped a label and pushed out into
the communities. A vicious cycle that continues
to be ignored. Social and emotional development
also supports building tolerance, a skill so many
educators lack.”
