The ladies discuss men and marriage after dinner. Mrs. Allonby believes women must keep close watch over men at all times to prevent them from escaping. Lady Stutfield thinks men know their power over women and use it. Lady Caroline argues men should stay in their proper place of looking after their wives, and bachelors should be forced to marry. Mrs. Allonby does not think women are property that can be owned by men. She finds married men tedious and bachelors conceited.
