Vicente IINationalHighSchool
Face to face learning engagement of
students and teachers within the school has
been suspended due to the COVID-19
pandemic. This pandemic has paved the
way to the implementation of Modular
Distance Learning as an urgent response to
ensure continuity ofeducation.
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
academic year (Bernardo, 2020).
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
According to a survey conducted by the
DepEd, learning through printed and
digital modules emerged as the most
preferred distance learning method of
parents with children who are enrolled this
The LAS was developed and used by the
teachers to understand studentsā€™ knowledge,
outcome of learning, and the process of
learning; at the same time, it can be used to
enable students to monitor the progress of
their own learning.
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
The question is, learning science have been an
issue to San Vicente II NHS teachers before the
pandemic, how much more in the new normal
education where the learning of science takes
place without teacherā€™s presence or guidance.
Upon checking studentā€™s output, some of the
students are very low which means that the
proficiency level of these students is low.
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
This study is conducted to increase the
proficiency level of Grade 7 students of San
Vicente II National High School. In the Republic
Act No. 10533 also known as the Enhanced Basic
Education Act of 2013 states that DepEd shall
make education learner-oriented and responsive
to the needs, cognitive and adaptive to cultural
capacity, the circumstances of diversity of
learners, schools and communities.
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
DepEd adheres to the standards and
principles of the K to 12 Basic Education
Program (BEP) that the curriculum should be
contextualized and global and allows schools,
divisions and regions to localize, indigenize
and enhance the same based on their
respective educational and social context.
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
The researchers believed that Contextualized
Teaching and Learning Approach is useful
because it makes learning relevant, engages
and motivates hard-to-reach pupils,
increases their confidence and enthusiasm,
and enhances interest in long term goals and
education.
RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE
General: To determine the effectiveness of the
Contextualized Learning Activity Sheet in improving the
proficiency level of grade 7 students of San Vicente II
National High School
Specific:
1.To enhance the proficiency level of the grade
7 students particularly in sciencesubject.
2.To determine the significant difference in the pre-test
and posttest proficiency level of Grade 7 students

Locale of the Study
METHODOLOGY
San Vicente II National High School is located at
Barangay San Vicente II, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur.
The school was selected because it is accessible
to all the researchers. To adhere in the mandate
of the inter-agency task force in the prohibition of
mass gathering, a remote distribution of research
instruments was conducted within the barangay.
Research Design
METHODOLOGY
The researcher used descriptive design since this
study aimed to assess the proficiency level of Grade 7
Students in using contextualized learning activity
sheets as learning intervention. Purposive Sampling
was used in this study to identify 10 students of grade
7 who have shown a repetitive result of being low and
not proficient in science 7 and considered as low
group based on their third quarter proficiency level.
Research Design
METHODOLOGY
The paired t-test (pretest/posttest) was the
main instrument used to ascertain the
effectiveness of the developed and validated
Contextualized Learning Activity Sheets, which
was designed to help teachers improve the
students' proficiency level in science 7.
Research Design
METHODOLOGY
The study's experimental component is the
studentā€™s proficiency level in Science Grade 7.
A pretest and a posttest were given to a
specific group of students to determine
whether there is a significant difference
before and after Contextualized LAS
implementation.
Research Procedure
METHODOLOGY
Before the conduct of this study, the
researcher asked permission from the Schools
Division Superintendent, the Public Schools
District Supervisor, and the School Principal to
implement the research.
Research Procedure
METHODOLOGY
The first phase included the administration of
the pretest in all Grade 7 Science students.
Purposive Sampling was used in this study to
identify 10 students of grade 7 who have shown
a repetitive result of being low and not proficient
in science 7 and considered as low group based
on their third quarter proficiency level.
Research Procedure
METHODOLOGY
A 30-item made test was developed and validated by
selected Master Teachers of Tagbina, Surigao del Sur
which covered the Topic of Natural Resources (Quarter
4, week 2) in Grade 7 Science. A letter was sent to the
Superintendent, Principal, in administering the pretest
and posttests. A span of one hour was given to the
students to complete the test. The results of the trial
were recorded and kept for comparison purposes.
Research Procedure
METHODOLOGY
The second phase of implementation focused on the
intervention of materials. The identified ten (10)
students were given the printed Contextualized
Learning Activity Sheets crafted by the researcher.
Distribution of the printed learning materials was done
in school.
Research Procedure
METHODOLOGY
Retrieval and checking of their outputs were done after
one week as reflected in the Weekly Home Learning
Plan. The third and final phase was the administration
of the posttest to the respondents of the study. Same in
the pretest, a span of one hour was be given to the
students to answer the said questionnaire. It was also
recorded and kept, to compare the results finally.
Treatment of Data
METHODOLOGY
Quantitative analysis was utilized to determine any
difference between the pretest and posttest scores of
Grade 7 students in Science after they were exposed to
the Contextualized Learning Activity Sheets.Simple
frequency count and the measure of central tendency
were employed in generating the descriptive statistics.
Treatment of Data
METHODOLOGY
The researcher examined the results of the students'
pretest and posttest to see the comparison before and
after using the intervention to determine the
effectiveness of Contextualized Learning Activity Sheet
on their proficiency level in science. A t-test: paired two
samples for means was used to determine a significant
difference among theresults.
METHODOLOGY
Ethical Considerations
In performing research, the researcher strictly adhered to the
recommendations. A letter was sent to the principal, the
Public Schools District Supervisor, and the Division
Superintendent, requesting their consent. The purpose of the
students' orientation was to provide direction and obtain
parental permission. The researcher obtained approval from
the IATF prior to the examination, and the students followed
Health standards. Throughout the intervention, the subjects'
anonymity was preserved.
