eScience has evolved from focusing on global scientific collaborations enabled by distributed computing infrastructure to emphasizing joint advances in digital infrastructure and how that infrastructure enables new research. This symbiotic relationship between research and infrastructure development could be called Research and Infrastructure Development Symbiosis (RaIDS). Going forward, RaIDS conferences should focus on improving communication between infrastructure developers and researchers to facilitate new collaborations, ensure research publications appropriately attribute enabling infrastructure advances, and standardize catalogs of available infrastructure and research challenges.

There has been a recent growth of initiatives to address common problems regarding current and long-term access to e-journal content. Jisc is at the forefront of many of these with the close participation and active input of educational institutions.
This session aims to summarise the current state of key themes with pointers to future directions of areas such as sustainability, the move towards e-only environments, and shared consortia approaches. It will provide an overview and panel discussion on developing the supporting infrastructure to meet the needs of users. The discussion will focus on how institutions, community bodies and service providers can best work together to ensure sustainable, long-term initiatives by seeking to introduce uniformity, standardisation and collaboration to an even greater extent.
The session will introduce two new Jisc-supported projects in this area, the Keepers Registry Extra and SafeNet initiatives, and discuss how these fit alongside existing Jisc services such as Knowledge Base+, UK LOCKSS Alliance, Journal Archives and JUSP (Journal Usage Statistics Portal). About the Webinar
Big data is being collected at a rate that is surpassing traditional analytical methods due to the constantly expanding ways in which data can be created and mined. Faculty in all disciplines are increasingly creating and/or incorporating big data into their research and institutions are creating repositories and other tools to manage it all. There are many challenge to effectively manage and curate this data—challenges that are both similar and different to managing document archives. Libraries can and are assuming a key role in making this information more useful, visible, and accessible, such as creating taxonomies, designing metadata schemes, and systematizing retrieval methods.
Our panelists will talk about their experience with big data curation, best practices for research data management, and the tools used by libraries as they take on this evolving role.

This document discusses challenges and new directions in acquiring small data sets for library collections. It outlines the pilot project undertaken by two librarians to start building a collection of downloadable data sets. They discuss issues around buying data sets from vendors, including establishing relationships, determining licensing and access terms, and payment methods. They also address storing and providing access to data sets through the catalog and metadata standards. The librarians seek input from others on their experiences acquiring and managing small data sets for researchers.
If Big Data is data that exceeds the processing capacity of conventional systems, thereby necessitating alternative processing measures, we are looking at an essentially technological challenge that IT managers are best equipped to address.
The DCC is currently working with 18 HEIs to support and develop their capabilities in the management of research data and, whilst the aforementioned challenge is not usually core to their expressed concerns, are there particular issues of curation inherent to Big Data that might force a different perspective?
We have some understanding of Big Data from our contacts in the Astronomy and High Energy Physics domains, and the scale and speed of development in Genomics data generation is well known, but the inability to provide sufficient processing capacity is not one of their more frequent complaints.
That’s not to say that Big Science and its Big Data are free of challenges in data curation; only that they are shared with their lesser cousins, where one might say that the real challenge is less one of size than diversity and complexity.
This brief presentation explores those aspects of data curation that go beyond the challenges of processing power but which may lend a broader perspective to the technology selection process.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
