Introduction to javascript templating using handlebars.jsMindfire Solutions
Handlebars.js is a JavaScript templating library. Web apps are using JavaScript to create dynamic interfaces now more than ever before, and that’s not a trend that will change any time soon. DOM manipulation is great for simpler JavaScript apps, but what do you do when you’re changing huge chunks of the document with each change of the view? That’s where JavaScript templating has a critical role to play.

Javascript and first-class citizenry: require.js & node.js
Javascript on web pages is ubiquitous and its problems are legendary. Javascript, seen as a second-class code citizen, is usually hacked together even by seasoned developers. New libraries (jQuery, prototype, backbone, knockout, underscore) and runtime tools (firebug, jasmine) look like they solve many problems - and they do. But they still leave poorly written code as just that. One key problem is that all javascript code lives globally and this results in poorly managed, tested and delivered code.
In this session, I will illustrate that we can treat javascript as a first-class citizen using with require.js and node.js: it can be modular, encapsulated and easily unit tested and added to continuous integration cycle. The dependencies between javascript modules can also be managed and packaged just like in C# and Java. In the end, we can resolve many javascript difficulties at compile time rather than waiting until runtime.

Drupal 8, Where Did the Code Go? From Info Hook to PluginAcquia
Looking at core and contrib modules for Drupal 8, you may be wondering "where did the code go?". Drupal 8 has removed many of the "info" hooks that were found in your module file and converted them to plugins.
In this webinar, we’ll discuss how plugins work and how to upgrade your module to Drupal 8 if it used one of the hooks that's been converted to a plugin.
Topics covered will include:
-Essentials of implementing your own plugin if your module previously used an “info” hook
-An explanation of plugin terminology and different ways plugins can be discovered
-Examples of code from Drupal 7 and where the very similar code lives in Drupal 8
-How to avoid implementing hooks by mistake when writing a function in your modules

Spring Security is a framework that focuses on providing both authentication and authorization to Java applications. Like all Spring projects, the real power of Spring Security is found in how easily it can be extended to meet custom requirements. In this presentation Rob will start with an insecure application and incrementally Spring Security 4 to demonstrate how easily you can secure your application. Throughout the presentation, new features found in Spring Security 4 will be highlighted. Whether you are new to Spring Security or are wanting to learn what is new in Spring Security 4, this presentation is a must!
Leverage patterns of large-scale JS – such as modules, publish-subscribe and delegation – to achieve extreme performance without sacrificing maintainability.
The OpenStack project was launched by Rackspace and NASA in July 2010. Since then it has gained considerable momentum, with over 200 companies joining the project.
The OpenStack Horizon project provides a highly extensible web-based User Interface to OpenStack services. However, in the time since Horizon was first architected, there have been major advances in the design and best practices for web applications. In particular, the use of more sophisticated and robust client-side javascript frameworks have come to the fore. These frameworks provide a much more responsive user experience and much cleaner separation between the client and server. They also enable configuration driven interfaces, facilitate more modular testing, and can facilitate shorter development cycles, more testable software, and above all, a better user experience.
In this presentation, we share some of our recent work in re-architecting parts of Horizon to take advantage of these new technologies. We will provide a brief introduction of OpenStack and Horizon, describe the recent work we have done, and then delve into architectural details and code examples of our recent work.

Slides of my invited talk at the 2nd workshop on Quality and Reliability Assessment of Robotic Software Architectures and Components (QRARSAC), co-located with the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2023).
Abstract of the talk. Today robotic systems are central to many industrial sectors, such as logistics, autonomous warehousing, and healthcare. If on one side ROS is helping roboticists by providing a standardized communication platform for robotic systems, on the other side ROSsystems are getting more and more large and complex, thus making it extremely difficult to ensure their level of quality, e.g., in terms of performance, security, energy efficiency, testability, maintainability. Improving the quality of robotic systems is not a new activity, but in this talk, we tackle it from a different perspective: we look at them from a software architecture perspective. In this talk, I will walk you through a series of experiments we conducted at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam targeting the architecture of ROS systems, we will discuss some architectural tactics for ROS systems, and will close with an overview of our open-source tool for automatically executing experiments on robotics software.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
