The client is one of the leading providers of SaaS based EDI solution for
manufacturers, logistics providers, sourcing companies, expeditors,
freight forwarders, and other business partners in the retail supply
chain. The client is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
Business Case
The client’s SaaS based EDI solution was lacking complete reporting
functionalities. They wanted their various reports like invoices,
purchase orders, etc. to support all popular output formats like
Adobe PDF, HTML, RTF, and plain text. Therefore, the client wanted
to partner with a team who could help them quickly develop, test,
and integrate these reporting features with their core application.
Challenges
Sigma Infosolutions’team was only building the reporting capabilities.
Therefore, every time the team had to test export functionality with
the core system, they liaised with the client’s core development
team. This was quite a challenge since the client’s core development
team had a hectic schedule and it was difficult to coordinate the
timings when the testing could be performed. The client’s team was
not quickly responding to queries as well as the details for the next
set of reports. This pushed Sigma Infosolutions’ team to be doubly

3. The Solution
Sigma Infosolutions proposed to use Pentaho BI tool to build core
reporting functionalities.
The client’s application needed to convert a document to a format
based on the requirements of the trading partners. Hence, the
reporting solution was built to support all popular output options
including Adobe PDF, HTML, Rich Text Format, and plain text. Since
the solution offers role-based security capabilities, the reports
were designed to follow these role-controls to protect security and
integrity of information.
Sigma Infosolutions took 3 weeks to exhaustively understand the
EDI solution, gather requirements, develop, test, and deploy the
reporting functionalities on the client’s server. The team also
worked along with the client’s development team to integrate the
functionalities with the core engine of the solution.
Since, Sigma Infosolutions got closely associated with the client’s
business vision and had in and out knowledge of the EDI solution; the
team leveraged its domain understanding to extend various types
