PARENTS OR GUARDIANS OF CHILDREN WITH
SPECIAL NEEDS.

ORDER TO EXAMINE THE DATA
GATHERED. SIX THEMES HAVE EMERGED
FROM THE INFORMATION GIVEN BY THE
PARTICIPANTS.

(6) IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS TO UNDERSTAND THEIR
SITUATION AND TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF
CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.
33. THE INFORMATION GATHERED ARE
INTERPRETED IN NARRATIVE FORM, WITH
QUOTATIONS AND VERBATIM FROM THE
TRANSCRIPTS OF CONVERSATIONS IN THE
INTERVIEW PROPER.
35. The characteristics, values, and behaviors that
the children with special needs present helps
the parents in taking care of them making their
parenting skills easier and more rewarding.
36. Taking care of a child with a special need required
a lot of demanding efforts and sacrifices, however
some parents tend to find relief towards the
situation because of the values their child shows.
37. Parenting a child with special needs presents
different difficulties in all kinds of aspects.
38. There are various strategies a parent or
guardian may use, however they usually prefer
therapy as their first choice solution.
39. The strategies the parents or guardians has
eased their situation but it is undeniable that
those solutions are not forever.
40. Majority of the participants claimed that the
society has a negative perception towards their
situation.
41. Comments of the society gives different effects
to the parents or guardians of children with
special needs, nonetheless the negative
comments are used as a strength and revoked.
42. A parent or guardian of a child with a special
need must be considerate enough in order to
surpass their situation.
45. 1.To make them realize that children with special needs are not responsibilities
and they can handle themselves with proper guidance and treatment.
2. To make them understand that these children need them the most as they
are the ones who can really proffer them care, love, and acceptance, providing
which can give these children hope that the society can accept them likewise.
47. 1. To help them be publicly known and accepted as
disabled and not hopeless.
2. To help them be guided and treated equally by other
parents or guardians who cannot seek the proper way in
dealing with these children.
49. 1. For them to be informed, especially to teachers of special
education, that these children can be treated as normal.
2. To help them understand that these parents or guardians
enrolled their children in their institution to help them supply
their children with simple knowledge and abilities for life.
51. 1. To make them realize that these parents or guardians, and
their children as well, that they should be properly treated as
normal members of the community.
2. To equip them with proper knowledge and treatment to these
members of their community so that public acceptance can
become evident.
53. 1. To guide them with the recent knowledge this
phenomenological study can give.
2. To make this research as their ground in order to
develop more understanding and more ideas to help
the parents or guardians of children with special needs.

The Grade 11 students of STEM - Archimedes are conducting a phenomenological, qualitative study about “The Lived Experiences of Parents or Guardians of Children with Special
Needs,” a requirement in Practical Research 1, second semester of school year 2017 - 2018.
