Report on Serhadi Yatim Khana Orphanage Mardan.
The history of Orphanage in Mardan is very old. It was given the name Sarhadi Yatim
Khana in 1938.It was the first orphanage in KPK at that time. It is known by its old name
until now. It is a major orphanage in kpk and important due to its increasing number of
children with basic facilities. The Orphanage has been serving the children for 76 years.
Its founder was the poet Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi. He got two gold medals for his
services one from Khyber Pukhtoon Khwa in (2001) and second from Government of
Punjab in (2006) after his death. The orphanage is situated on Shamsi Road Mardan. In
its surrounding there is govt primary school and DHQ hospital Mardan . Before
the establishment of Pakistan, the Orphans in Mardan area were converted to
Christianity very fast because there was strong British power to give a big helping
hand to the poor helpless orphans. Their objective was to capture the powers on the
locality basis of Pakistan, for this purpose they want to shake the believes of the
Muslims. At that time Christianity was on peak. Non-Muslims were taking care of
Muslim orphans and were preaching Christianity. The poet Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan
Ghazi was become seriously anxious about it. Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi wanted
the Muslims to be liberal in their dealings either religious or political. They suffered a lot
in prison. He was the first prisoner of Tehreek-e-Pakistan from Mardan and KPK. One
year before Shimla conference when he propagated league instead of Congress, the then
minister Dr. Khan imprisoned him. His house was searched by them, and was charged
with false murder cases. Congress snatched Orphanage land that was cost of 80000 Rs.
Orphanage had char sad rupiah grant and bank amount also captured by them. Congress
done their failed struggle to exiled Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi with Orphan kids. The
dispute between Orphanage and congress ministry reached at that position where a five
years old child named Saeed-ur-Rehman got Shahadat. This institution has played a vital
2
role in the Freedom Movement of Pakistan. For this purpose Qazi attended memorable
meetings with Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Mohammad Iqbal ,
Liaquat Ali Khan , Sardar Abdur-rab Nishtar and Khan Abdul Qayoom Khan etc to
discuss the issues of Muslims. These personalities encouraged him through meetings
and writing letters to him for taking a big step to save Muslims from bending
towards Christianity. To solve their problems there also need some financial help. Qazi
Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi was the owner of 18.5 Acres or 600 kanal irrigated land. He
met the expences of Orphanage from these irrigated land which was fully donated for
Orphans for the continuity of their quality education. If there was extreme need of
finance, they also sold piece of land for it. It is strange to know that Qazi Abdul Akbar
Khan Ghazi has no personal property now, they spend all their property for the sake of
Orphanage. Thus the study noted that it was totally spent for an Orphanage. Due to
limited resources Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi started it in a portion of his personal
home with a few children. At first there were 10 children. The number of children
increased from year to year, i.e. 40, 60, 80,100 etc. When the foundation of the
orphanage was strengthened with the passage of time, it gradually facilitated the
children by providing them basic needs like nutritious food , health facilities , fancy
clothes , quality education. There also has the facility of Mosque where kids pray and do
recitation of the Holy Quran. Television facility is also provided for entertainment. It is
noted from the study that more focus was given on education, because that the quality
education give more success to the orphans in their society and decreased the
disparity between orphans and non-orphans. The number of children is increasing day
by day so they donated his personal home for Orphanage and now lives at the upper
floor of the house. The main step was taken by Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi
and was passed away in 1978,but the journey of his success was carried on by his
beloved son Qazi Mohammad Suqlain who left their Govt job BPS-17 in NADRA. It
is noticed from the study that they provided a standard shape to the orphanage to
complete his father’s mission. There are the efforts of Qazi Mohammad Suqlain who
provided peaceful environment to the Orphanage. It is stated that they facilitated
everything that should be in one house for children. Qazi Mohammad Suqlain passed on
Thursday 20th March 2014. Now the responsibilities of Orphanage are handling by
3
Operation Manager Qazi Mohammad Khizar Hayat and Qazi Muhammad Hasnain.
Following facilities are hostel provided, bed rooms, study rooms, transport, digital lab,

deaf .The orphanage does not keep those children who have no guardians. No
adoption of kids take place from Orphanage. Along with all facilities the orphanage has
created cream students who play a positive role in their society like doctors, engineers,
police officers, Army officers and bankers.
Recommendations:
It is evident from the recent study that the Serhad Orphan house has an outstanding
contribution to the society. Its work is remarkable. The Government and the elite class of
the society needs to help them economically. The Orphan house has not the capability to
facilitate girls Orphans. Concrete steps and suppose of the current KPK Government will
enable this historical Orphan house to facilitate more Orphan children including the girls.
The education level at orphanage is only at Matric if the Govt participates it will further
extend to higher level. Because for any kid it is not a complete stage for their success.
The main objective of the study is to find out that the Orphans must play positive role in
the society if facilitate them positively. The foundation is to promote the welfare of
children in need due to poverty , disease or social injustice in addition to bring about a
positive change in the social structure of the society for a better tomorrow. To focus on
Orphans will decrease the social, cultural and emotional distress in the society. To
facilitate Orphans, shows a result how much they will standardize. By joining
Orphanages mostly kids prevent from child labor and begging. It is noted from the study
that training and education given to Orphans made them independent same to non-
Orphans. The goal of the Orphanage is to create cream students in the society. Thousands
of orphans who got educated from Sarhadi Yateem Khana (SYK) & they are now
enjoying a prosperous life. It shows its big achievement and true spirit for Orphans.

Report on Serhadi Yatim Khana Orphanage Mardan

  • 1. 1 Nadia Bawar BS. Economics Department 8th semester Govt Girls Post Graduate College Mardan. Nadia Bawar@ gmail.com Report on Serhadi Yatim Khana Orphanage Mardan. The history of Orphanage in Mardan is very old. It was given the name Sarhadi Yatim Khana in 1938.It was the first orphanage in KPK at that time. It is known by its old name until now. It is a major orphanage in kpk and important due to its increasing number of children with basic facilities. The Orphanage has been serving the children for 76 years. Its founder was the poet Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi. He got two gold medals for his services one from Khyber Pukhtoon Khwa in (2001) and second from Government of Punjab in (2006) after his death. The orphanage is situated on Shamsi Road Mardan. In its surrounding there is govt primary school and DHQ hospital Mardan . Before the establishment of Pakistan, the Orphans in Mardan area were converted to Christianity very fast because there was strong British power to give a big helping hand to the poor helpless orphans. Their objective was to capture the powers on the locality basis of Pakistan, for this purpose they want to shake the believes of the Muslims. At that time Christianity was on peak. Non-Muslims were taking care of Muslim orphans and were preaching Christianity. The poet Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi was become seriously anxious about it. Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi wanted the Muslims to be liberal in their dealings either religious or political. They suffered a lot in prison. He was the first prisoner of Tehreek-e-Pakistan from Mardan and KPK. One year before Shimla conference when he propagated league instead of Congress, the then minister Dr. Khan imprisoned him. His house was searched by them, and was charged with false murder cases. Congress snatched Orphanage land that was cost of 80000 Rs. Orphanage had char sad rupiah grant and bank amount also captured by them. Congress done their failed struggle to exiled Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi with Orphan kids. The dispute between Orphanage and congress ministry reached at that position where a five years old child named Saeed-ur-Rehman got Shahadat. This institution has played a vital
  • 2. 2 role in the Freedom Movement of Pakistan. For this purpose Qazi attended memorable meetings with Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Mohammad Iqbal , Liaquat Ali Khan , Sardar Abdur-rab Nishtar and Khan Abdul Qayoom Khan etc to discuss the issues of Muslims. These personalities encouraged him through meetings and writing letters to him for taking a big step to save Muslims from bending towards Christianity. To solve their problems there also need some financial help. Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi was the owner of 18.5 Acres or 600 kanal irrigated land. He met the expences of Orphanage from these irrigated land which was fully donated for Orphans for the continuity of their quality education. If there was extreme need of finance, they also sold piece of land for it. It is strange to know that Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi has no personal property now, they spend all their property for the sake of Orphanage. Thus the study noted that it was totally spent for an Orphanage. Due to limited resources Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi started it in a portion of his personal home with a few children. At first there were 10 children. The number of children increased from year to year, i.e. 40, 60, 80,100 etc. When the foundation of the orphanage was strengthened with the passage of time, it gradually facilitated the children by providing them basic needs like nutritious food , health facilities , fancy clothes , quality education. There also has the facility of Mosque where kids pray and do recitation of the Holy Quran. Television facility is also provided for entertainment. It is noted from the study that more focus was given on education, because that the quality education give more success to the orphans in their society and decreased the disparity between orphans and non-orphans. The number of children is increasing day by day so they donated his personal home for Orphanage and now lives at the upper floor of the house. The main step was taken by Qazi Abdul Akbar Khan Ghazi and was passed away in 1978,but the journey of his success was carried on by his beloved son Qazi Mohammad Suqlain who left their Govt job BPS-17 in NADRA. It is noticed from the study that they provided a standard shape to the orphanage to complete his father’s mission. There are the efforts of Qazi Mohammad Suqlain who provided peaceful environment to the Orphanage. It is stated that they facilitated everything that should be in one house for children. Qazi Mohammad Suqlain passed on Thursday 20th March 2014. Now the responsibilities of Orphanage are handling by

  • 9. 9 deaf .The orphanage does not keep those children who have no guardians. No adoption of kids take place from Orphanage. Along with all facilities the orphanage has created cream students who play a positive role in their society like doctors, engineers, police officers, Army officers and bankers. Recommendations: It is evident from the recent study that the Serhad Orphan house has an outstanding contribution to the society. Its work is remarkable. The Government and the elite class of the society needs to help them economically. The Orphan house has not the capability to facilitate girls Orphans. Concrete steps and suppose of the current KPK Government will enable this historical Orphan house to facilitate more Orphan children including the girls. The education level at orphanage is only at Matric if the Govt participates it will further extend to higher level. Because for any kid it is not a complete stage for their success. The main objective of the study is to find out that the Orphans must play positive role in the society if facilitate them positively. The foundation is to promote the welfare of children in need due to poverty , disease or social injustice in addition to bring about a positive change in the social structure of the society for a better tomorrow. To focus on Orphans will decrease the social, cultural and emotional distress in the society. To facilitate Orphans, shows a result how much they will standardize. By joining Orphanages mostly kids prevent from child labor and begging. It is noted from the study that training and education given to Orphans made them independent same to non- Orphans. The goal of the Orphanage is to create cream students in the society. Thousands of orphans who got educated from Sarhadi Yateem Khana (SYK) & they are now enjoying a prosperous life. It shows its big achievement and true spirit for Orphans.
