REPENTANCEAs we prepare ourselves to receive abundant life through Jesus, we need to decide now to begin a new life in Him. This new life begins with Repentance of sin. So today I want to talk about Repentance.WHAT IS REPENTANCE? It is recognizing one’s sin, feeling sorry about them, turning from them and giving them up completely. It is the first step that the soul returns to God (Ezekiel 14:6 Malachi 3:7 Luke 13:3 ). Without repentance no one can be saved(Matthew 3:2-11 ). Repentance is different from regret or sorrowful. Being sorry of your deeds alone is not repentance, but turning away from it completely (Revelation 6:16-17 2 Corinthians 7:9-10 Psalm 51:17 Luke 18:13 ). Sorrow without a genuine change of mind and heart leads only to despair, but true repentance which is the Godly sorrow that leads to salvation involves a change of mind and heart. For example, a person might ever forsake his sins and he might mistakenly believe that as long as he does good deeds, he can continue in his life. But in repentance a sinner must recognize his sins, turn away from them, confess them to God and forsake them completely. It is only on this way that his sins will be forgiven. Only in this way will he enjoy the benefits of God’s great salvationDear Friend, from this example there are three aspects of repentance that I want to share with you. These are 1. INTELLECTUAL 2. EMOTIONAL 3. ACT OF WILL.Intellectual is when one recognizes that he has sin and is not right with God. If you can recognize that the state at which you live in is not up to God’s designed state of living, your intellect begin to reflect your wrong doing to you through the Holy spirit.
Emotional repentance involves the change of feelings one has in relation to sins he has committed. When this happen Your emotions begin to speak to your conscience to give you a sense of guilt. Then comes to the act of will, which is a decision to change direction. When this happen, do not wait for someone to come to you but by taking strong decision to change your direction. The will of man is never tempered by God. It is man, who needs to decide what to do with his will. Laying down your will of destruction to take that of God, bring us into repentance.Repentance involves every part of our life. It also involves our intention for the future. That is the beginning of going God’s way in obedience and fellowship with him (Matthew 11:28 ). We must note that we cannot repent and simply accept Jesus and be saved without any string attachment. It is impossible to accept Jesus as Lord without involving our intellect, emotions and will. Which include every aspect of life. It is at this point that we begin to receive the heavenly benefits which Jesus gives as abundant life living. In short our affections, desires and intentions bring our heart direct to God (Luke 3:3-18 ). Here John was asking for evidence which would prove that their repentance was genuine.Another thing I want to emphasis on is restitution. We must note that restitution is good but it can not save man. That is paying back what we have wrongly taken (Exodus 22:1 Leviticus 6:5 Numbers 5:6-7 ). It is only a visible evidence of our decision to turn from sin to Christ. It however helps us to experience God’s saving grace. Now let us ask ourselves who should repent? This is universal. Everybody is included in this.(1) All those who have never believed in Christ are invited to repent and receive God’s forgiveness and become a part of his family because Romans 3:23 says all have sin and fall short to the glory of God (Titus 2:11 Revelation 22:17 ).
(2) Christians who have grown cold are also call to repentance (Revelation 2:5 ) We must also note that all sin is sin (1 John 5:17 ) so all need repentance (Roman 6:23 ) and we all need forgiveness (Romans 2:4 ). There are a lot of benefits through repentance. 1. Repentance produces Joy in the heart of the sinner 2. It creates Joy in Heaven as the Angels of God rejoices (Luke 15:10 3 ).3. It opens door that leads to faith and forgiveness (Job 42:10-17 ). 4. He receives the benefits of God which is abundance life (2 chronicles 2:14 )Dear Friend,Just have a moment of silent to think about this. How pleasant shall it be if we forsake our sins and enter into the rest of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lets us give our all to Him to receive abundant blessing promised by Him.May God Bless you.Shalom
