Editor's Notes

  • #3 Introduction
  • #4 Reason I wanted to do this is that enterprises are facing rapid changes in the IT landscape with “Internet of Things”, “Big Data” and many other cloud services as new emerging technologies. In utilities there is a shift towards renewable energy as natural resources and nuclear energy become a less favorite option due to environmental issues and sustainability. Solar and Wind energy are at their prime now with increase of solar- and wind parks. Energy created by these are parks are fed into the grid, is carbon neutral and provides sustainability. Solar- and wind parks (devices) create a tremendous amount of data through several sensors, are aggregated and consumed into various IT solutions. Integration plays an essential part. In this session we will go into how integration relates to IoT in the Utilities space dealing with renewable energy. An actual real world scenario will be demonstrated and explained.
  • #6 Key Points: Today, the Internet of Things (or IoT) is a difficult trend to define precisely as there is no standard definition for it, and everyone has a different meaning Despite how seemingly complex it is, it essentially consists of four basic areas Talk Track: Before we go any further, let’s take a moment to talk about the trend… the Internet of Things, or IoT The Internet of Things really comes down to four key things: Physical “things” such as line of business assets, including industry devices or sensors Those “things” that have connectivity to either the internet or to each other or humans Those “things” have the ability to collect and communicate information – this information may include data collected from the environment or inputted by users And then the analytics that comes with the data enable people or machines to take action
  • #7 Iot equals Smart
  • #8 SMART Sensors play a role
  • #10 TODO IoT Chain Azure
  • #29 Types/forms of renewable energy: Hydro Wind Solar Biomass Ocean Geothermal
  • #33 IoT Value Chain
  • #34 Todo Xml format JSON format
  • #35 http://www.nuon.nl/duurzame-energie/articles/windparken.jsp
  • #39 Renewables are here to stay and required to change environmental mishaps and reverse the process of protentially global warming Utility companies are playing ball now with renewables. CO2 reduction being the main driver, but also there is money to be made. In general nuclear is not popular, convential energy sources are not environmental friendly and new policies, regaluations require/drive these companies to explore new ways of generating power and make money. One of them is Wind! IoT is the new upcoming trend and opens new markets, solutions and business! There is money to be made there. Assests (devices) are made smart and can data is tapped for benefit of getting new insights. Sensors play an important role in generating data. Data that can be made smart. IoT = Smart. Integration is going to change from traditional let’s say BizTalk Server to what Microsoft Azure has to offer. One of the solutions that you saw is created with traditional IT including integration. This is moving to the cloud. The demo I showed in the beginning was just an appetizer of what the possibilities are.
