6. LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING: ISAIAH 61:1-3a
y un día de venganza de nuestro Dios;
para consolar a todos los afligidos,
para cambiar por una corona
la ceniza de los afligidos de Sión,
su ropa de luto por perfumes de fiesta,
y su ánimo triste por los cantos de alabanza.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
USED WITH PERMISSION
SECOND READING: 2 CORINTHIANS 4:1-2, 5-7
Brothers and sisters:
Since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us,
we are not discouraged.
Rather, we have renounced shameful, hidden things;
not acting deceitfully or falsifying the word of God,
but by the open declaration of truth
-5-
7. we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
For we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord,
and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus.
For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”
has shone in our hearts to bring to light
the knowledge of the glory of God on the face of Jesus Christ.
But we hold this treasure in earthen vessels,
that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
USED WITH PERMISSION
Go and teach all nations, says the Lord.
I am with you always, until the end of the world.
(Matthew 28:19a, 20b)
GOSPEL: LUKE 10:1-9
Si hay allí gente de paz, su paz recaerá sobre ellos;
si no, regresará a ustedes.

13. WORKSHOPS
SESSIONS IN ENGLISH
1+2 HOW ARE WE EVANGELIZING? PASSING ON OUR FAITH FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION
This workshop will help participants understand how we look at our call to transmit faith to the generations who come after
us, especially our own families. The family is the “domestic church”. We will discover that meaning on a practical level.
[ROOM 216]
Don and Chris Paglia, Co-Directors, Family Life Office, Archdiocese of Hartford
1+2 HOW TO FOSTER IN CHILDREN A LIFELONG DEVOTION TO THE BIBLE
Beginning with a foundational understanding of Scripture and how it nurtures our relationship with Christ, the Word of
God, this workshop introduces basic principles and creative methods that teachers and parents can use to encourage
children to read and pray with the Bible. [ROOM 120]
Barbara Jean Daly Horell, M.T.S., Coordinator of the Catholic Biblical School, Office of Religious Education,
Archdiocese of Hartford
1+2 SERVANT LEADERSHIP IN THE CLASSROOM
Religious education is the perfect setting to apply Robert Greenleaf’s belief that we all need to be servant-leaders. Jesus,
our Master Teacher, is the primary example. Servant Leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight and listening.
Come and learn how to apply it in the classroom and in life. [ROOM 215/217]
Judith A. Devine, M.A., National Sales Consultant, William H. Sadlier, Inc.
(Compliments of William H. Sadlier, Inc.)
1+2 EDUCATING THE ENERGETIC: STRATEGIES FOR CATECHIZING OUR CHILDREN TODAY
Catechizing children is extremely fulfilling in addition to being very challenging. Although they are naturally drawn to the
Holy Spirit, they simultaneously are in need of direction, empowerment and prayerful example. This workshop will focus on
catechetical methodologies and practical strategies through which we can catechize our children. [ROOM 135D - MUSIC]
Michelle Grieco, Director of the Ministry for People with Disabilities, Diocese of Bridgeport
1 FORGING WITNESSES, WORKERS AND PROPHETS: TOOLS TO LIVE OUR FAITH IN A GLOBALIZED WORLD
Today’s increasingly interconnected world presents new challenges and opportunities to live our faith. In this workshop,
participants will explore how the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching guide us to face a globalized world and call us to
live in solidarity in concrete ways. Participants will become familiar with Catholic Relief Services and some of the tools
they offer to integrate Catholic Social Teaching and solidarity with the poor around the world in faith formation. This
workshop will provide resources that participants can take back to their parishes and schools. [ROOM 118]
Maria Isabel Barboza, M.A., Program Officer for Catholic Relief Services (New England)
-12-
14. 1 CHILD LURES PREVENTION PROGRAM
Child Lures is a child safety program providing training for prevention of sexual exploitation, abduction, internet crime,
drugs and school violence. It deals with teaching children about the dignity of all people and the dangers that are contrary to
that central Catholic belief. It is a requirement in the Archdiocese of Hartford that every parish offer this training program
for children in grades 1-8. Parents are also encouraged to attend. The program can provide some wonderful dialogue with
children and parents in the parish setting. This workshop is designed for parish catechetical leaders or for anyone who will
be presenting Child Lures to children in parish programs. It is designed for both new leaders and is also a refresher class for
experienced leaders. [ROOM 122]
Kimberlee Donahue, Coordinator, Child Lures Prevention Program, Archdiocese of Hartford; Director of Religious
Education, St. Joseph Parish, Bristol
1+2 CHRISTIAN MORAL FORMATION IN A COMPLEX WORLD: LEARNING TO SEE THE WORLD RIGHTLY
How well does the Church prepare people to address the moral challenges of everyday life from a Christian perspective? By
listening to, thinking about and discussing a few stories involving moral issues. Participants will explore how we as
Christians can gain an understanding of the dynamics of moral experience more fully and draw insight from our Christian
faith in addressing the moral issues of everyday life. [ROOM 123]
Dr. Harold D. Horell, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Religious Education, Fordham University, Graduate School of
Religion and Religious Education
1+2 SERVICE HOURS: PENANCE OR PRIVILEGE?
Participants will explore how to plan and facilitate meaningful service experiences for youth and young adults. Too often,
service hours are experienced by our young people as a hoop to jump through rather than a privilege to experience. This
interactive workshop will provide practical ideas, resources and a fresh perspective on engaging young people in serving the
community as a dynamic expression of our Catholic faith. [ROOM 219]
Cori Thibodeau, M.Div., Executive Director, Office for Catholic Social Justice Ministry, Archdiocese of Hartford
1+2 THE SPIRITUALITY OF THE YOUNG CHILD: PASSING ON OUR FAITH TO YOUNG STUDENTS, AGES 3 – FIRST
GRADE
Learn how to minister to families with young children and to lay the foundation for a faith that endures through a lifetime
through a welcoming, vibrant Early Childhood Faith Formation program grounded in Early Childhood theory, research and
best practices as well as in Catholic theology, Scripture and tradition. We will discuss the development and the spirituality
of young students ages 3 through first grade, how they learn best, and how to facilitate their faith. [ROOM 117]
Lori Andrada, M.A., Early Childhood Consultant
1+2 MINISTERING TO THE MINISTER: TENDING TO THE SPIRIT OF GOD AT WORK IN AND THROUGH US
We will begin by examining through Scripture the personal character and uniqueness of each individual’s relationship with
Christ. Starting from the fact that each of us has been created imago Dei, in the image of God, we will seek to deepen and
strengthen our own understanding of that personal vocation. Participants will be afforded the opportunity to enter into
greater discernment of and commitment to the unique vocation of ministry to which they have been called. [LIBRARY]
