Welcome to Reldog Lite
Welcome
Welcome to Reldog Lite! Reldog Lite is a relational database designed for
organizations breeding and training working dogs. Organizations of all sizes can
use the program’s tools to increase the speed at which they improve the quality
of their dogs and use the data from training and client placements to monitor the
effectiveness of program improvements and identify further areas to make the
best use of resources.
Understanding Reldog Lite
Before you embark on your journey into Reldog Lite, understanding some basic
principals of the program will expedite your learning.
At its core, Reldog Lite uses two critical pieces of information: Dogs and People.
Detailed data such as medical histories, puppy raisers, whelping information, etc.
are managed by identifying the relationship that those details have with the dog
or the person (hence: “relational database”). By managing the data in this way,
the system provides you with limitless ways you can cull and study the data
which is most important to you.
Entering Reldog Lite
How to Log-in to Reldog Lite
The most efficient way to enter Reldog Lite will vary based on how your network
professionals have configured your system. For small organizations, the
database may be available and accessible by entering the server directly. For
larger organizations who have established the system in a Citrix or Citrix-like
environment, individual users may have personalized ways of entering the
database. Please check with your IT department to learn how to access the
database.
Signing-in to Reldog Lite
Once you have entered the database, it is not uncommon for Access (the
program which runs Reldog Lite) to provide you with a warning message that
looks like this:
What’s happening here is that the system is warning you that the program that
you are about open contains code which may be harmful to your computer.
Reldog Lite’s open source code is what causes this warning. The program will
not run without the code, so press “Open”.
A window will open on your screen asking you to select a user name and enter a
password. Select your name from the drop-down menu and enter the password
which was provided to you by your Reldog System Administrator. If your name is
not available on the drop-down, or if the password provided to you is not working,
contact your administrator.
The Bulletins Screen
Upon entering Reldog Lite, you will immediately be brought to the Bulletins
screen. Bulletins are assigned by your Reldog Lite Administrator and are
designed to provide key personnel with information which is most pertinent to
them. For example, if a dog is Career Changed, a bulletin may be created to
notify Puppy Raising Services, Sponsorship personnel, and the Training Kennel
Manager simultaneously and automatically. Once you have become familiar with
Reldog Lite, contact your Reldog Lite Administrator to find out bulletins which are
available for you to receive.
Viewing a Bulletin
To view a bulletin, select the Bulletin you wish to see then select GO TO DETAIL.
The system will open the event which caused you to receive the bulletin, and you
will have the opportunity to review the event thoroughly.
Sending a Memo
A memo is similar to an email in the sense that you are able to select a person to
whom you would like to send a notification. This function is not intended to
replace email. Instead, memos can provide quick communication between
personnel who may not have access to email at the time and need to send
something to their colleague quickly. To send a memo, select SEND MEMO on
the lower right-hand side, select the person to whom you intend to send the
memo and enter any information you would like to include in the large memo box.
When finished, select SEND. The memo will be sent automatically to the users
bulletin screen and will be available for their review the next time they log on.
Commented [J1]: Barbara – please verify that this is accurate?
Deleting Bulletins
As you become more involved with Reldog Lite, Bulletins can get backed up very
quickly. It is important not to retain bulletins which are no longer important to
you. They are intended to give you quick information and should be discarded, if
possible, after review. To delete a bulletin, select the bulletin you would like to
discard by placing a check in the box directly to the left of the bulletin. Do this for
each bulletin you intend to delete and either move on to the next screen by
selecting MAIN MENU or leave the system by selecting the large X in the upper
right hand corner. The bulletins will be gone the next time you open the Bulletins
form.
Entering the Main Menu
The Main Menu is the central location from which you can access any
information in the system. It is broken into 9 sections: Dogs, Breeding, Dog
Health, Puppy Raising, Temperament, Training, People, Client Services and
Utilities.
The system was constructed such that departments which perform specific
functions are able to complete their responsibilities without leaving their section.
This central system allows users to enter data which is important to them, and
which they need regular access to, without searching for the location in which to
access it.
People
The People Menu is where all people are entered and where their contact
information and relationships with the school can be managed. More information
can be found in Chapter 1: The People Menu.
Dog Menu
The Dog Menu is meant to provide a general overview of dog data. More on this
menu is covered in Chapter 2: The Dog Menu.
Breeding
The Breeding Menu is the central location for all things Breeding. More on this
menu is covered in Chapter 3: The Breeding Menu.
Dog Health
The Dog Health Menu houses information critical to a dog’s medical history.
Weight Management, vaccinations, diagnoses, procedures, etc. can be found
here. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 4: The Dog Health Menu.
Puppy Raising
The Puppy Raising Menu enables Puppy Raising personnel to enter puppy raiser
matches and relationships, manage sponsorships, assign vets to a puppy, recall

dogs for training, and enter and manage puppy raiser evaluations. More on this
menu is covered in Chapter 5: The Puppy Raising Services Menu.
Temperament
The Temperament Menu allows you to enter information key to the dog’s
behavior and gives you the opportunity to enter Training Reports, Behavioral
Incidences, Behavior Checklists, 8 Trait Evaluation, and C-Barq Scores. More
on this menu is covered in Chapter 6: The Temperament Menu.
Training
The Training Menu enables your Training Department to assign dogs to training
strings, manage trainer assignments, track dog training reports and training
hours, and report behavioral incidents and behavior checklists. More on this
menu is covered in Chapter 7: The Training Menu.
Client Services
The Client Services menu offers Client Services personnel the opportunity to
manage student applications, graduation, contact notes, field visits and
equipment. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 8: The Client Services
Menu.
Utilities
The Utilities menu offers the Reldog Lite Administrator the flexibility to adjust
drop-down options through out the program to suit the needs of your organization
through customization. Work with your program administrator to learn more
about which areas of this menu you are permitted to access and which should be
managed by the administrator.

Managing Puppy Raising Contact Information
Creating a New Person in Reldog Lite
For each application you receive in Puppy Raising Services, you will need to check to see if the
person has already been entered into Reldog Lite. If the person has no previous relationship with the
school, enter the person into Reldog Lite using the steps outlined in Chapter 1: The People Menu –
Entering a New Person to create a new person record.
Update/verify information if person is already in Reldog Lite
Now is a good time to add or edit any information about the raiser such as who the family members
are, email, cell phone contacts, best time to reach etc. Refer to Chapter 1: The People Menu –
Viewing and Editing Contact Information for how to update information.

Managing Sponsor Relationships
Information on Sponsor Relationships can be found by going to Chapter X: Sponsor Relationships.
Making a Person a Puppy Raiser In Reldog Lite
Establishing a person as a Puppy Raiser
1. Once you have entered a person into Reldog Lite, you will need to tell Reldog Lite that
the person is a Puppy Raiser for your organization. This only has to be done the first
time they raise (or in instances where they may have raised a very long time ago and
their raiser relationship was not imported to Reldog Lite when your school transitioned
into using the system.) To do this:
a. Select the person you wish to make a puppy raiser from the dropdown list in the
Last Name field on the People Menu.
b. Once you have selected the person you wish to make a raiser, click
CREATE/EDIT PUPPY RAISER. This button will begin the raiser’s application
process.
c. Enter the raiser application details requested on the “Enter Raiser Details” form.
i. Note: The system will automatically enter today’s date for “date received”,
“Date status changed” and “Date want”. You can edit these fields as
needed.
d. To complete the application, you must click the APPLICATION DETAILS button
located on the lower left-hand side of the first page of the application’ which takes
you to the second page to the application.
e. On the second page of the application, enter any information which may be
pertinent to making a good puppy placement with the potential raiser. By clicking
the boxes associated with specific considerations, your are making information
available which will help your puppy raising services department to make
stronger matches based on these considerations.
f. The “Date Screened” field may be used to reflect either the day the application
was screened by the school or you may enter the date that the application was
reviewed by the area coordinator. This depends on your organization’s methods.
In either case, the “Accepted” checkbox must be checked in order for the raiser’s application to
be considered “active” and for the raiser to be matched with a puppy. Check this box once the
applicant has completed the formal application process established by your school and only if
they are ready for a puppy.
Application Elements
Repeat Raiser
Select this box if the person you are entering an application for has been a raiser with
your school in the past.
Region Screening App
Commented [j3]: To be linked upon completion.
3
This drop-down menu will allow you to select which region will be responsible for the
screening of this particular applicant. The list of regions is managed by the Puppy
Raising Services Management. Contact PR Management if a region you need is not
currently listed.
App. Status
Use this drop-down to tell Reldog Lite the applicant’s current status. While this section
can be updated to meet the needs of the department (contact your Reldog Lite
Administrator if you require changes), your pre-set selections include:
Breed Choice
Use this drop-down to indicate the applicant’s preferred breed. If they are open to many
different types of dogs, select “no pick” from the menu.
Sex Choice
Similar to Breed Choice. If the applicant has no preference, select “no pref” from the
menu.
Matching Criteria
You may use this section to make notes that will be used to identify strong placements
for puppies. This is an opportunity to provide a short, descriptive detail.
Comment When Want Puppy
This is also a text box which enables you to enter short notes about the raiser’s
expectations about placement.
Type of Raising Situation
Since some people prefer to act exclusively as a finishing or starter home and some
prefer to raise a dog from infancy to mature adult, this section gives you the opportunity
to identify the type of placement available with this particular raiser:
**A secondary raiser is a person living in another household who is also taking a large
role in raising the puppy. Designating secondary raisers helps identify people who have
special relationships with the dog. If you are entering this person as a “secondary
raiser” it is important to also enter an application for the primary raiser. See “Chapter 1:
The People Menu – Cross References” to learn more about managing co-raisers. Commented [j4]: To be linked upon completion.
4
Saving the Application
If you need to return to Page 1 of the application, select the MAIN APPLICATION button
located on the lower left-hand side of the form to return to the previous page. Click
SAVE to save and return to the People Menu or CLOSE to save without closing.
The Puppy Raising Menu
The Puppy Raising Menu has been designed as an all-inclusive central location from which Puppy
Raising services personnel can manage the Puppy Raising Program.
Entering the Puppy Raising Menu
To enter the Puppy Raising Menu, select PUPPY RAISING from the Main Menu.
Exploring the Puppy Raising Menu in Reldog Lite
There are 4 topic sections in the Puppy Raising Menu. Each topic is in a column. From left to right
they are:
 Placement
 Relationships
 Evaluations
 Reports
Managing a Puppy Raiser Relationship
In the interest of providing you with a clear understanding of how to properly use the Reldog Lite
Puppy Raising Menu, we will work through the lifecycle of a dog and be sure to touch on each
function of Reldog so that you may use it to the fullest.
Pre-Matching a Puppy to a Raiser
Pre-matching a Puppy Raiser to a newborn puppy can begin the moment the Breeding/Whelping
department has entered the puppy’s birth information. To pre-match a pup to a potential raiser:
1) Click MATCH/PLACEMENT MENU located on the lower left-hand side of the Puppy Raising
Menu.
2) The Pup Matching and Placement Menu will open in preparation for you to create puppy
partnerships.
3) Select the puppy you would like to match by clicking on the gray bar immediately to the left of
the puppy. This will select the puppy’s record.
4) Once selected, click MATCH PUP TO RAISER then select the person you wish to pre-match
the puppy with. Only those people who have an application on file with the school and
who do not already have a puppy in their care will appear on your drop-down list. This
will preliminarily match the puppy to the raiser, but will keep the puppy’s status in the system
as “on campus”.
5) Remember that the Pre-Matching option in Reldog does not generate a permanent relationship
in the system so it can be a valuable tool in helping you to organize your placements.
Un-matching a Puppy
To un-match a puppy that has been pre-matched with a raiser:
5
1) Click MATCH/PLACEMENT MENU located on the lower left-hand side of the Puppy Raising
Menu.
2) The Pup Matching and Placement Menu will open.
3) Select the puppy you wish to un-match by clicking on the gray bar immediately to the left of the
puppy. This will select the puppy’s record.
4) Once selected, click the UNMATCH PUP button located on the bottom of the screen. The
system will ask you if you are sure that you want to un-match the pup from the current raiser,
select “YES”. When you return to the Pup Matching and Placement Menu, the raisers name
may still be listed in the “Person Matched” column, but if you exit this menu and come back,
you will see that the raiser has been removed.
Placing a Puppy with a Raiser
Once you are confident that the raiser you matched the pup with is the same person you will be
placing the pup with for raising, you can officially place the pup with the raiser in the following way:
1) Click MATCH/PLACEMENT MENU located on the lower left-hand side of the Puppy Raising
Menu.
2) The Puppy Matching and Placement Menu will open.
3) Select the puppy you wish to place by clicking the gray bar immediately to the left of the puppy.
This will select the puppy’s record.
4) Once selected, click the PLACE PUP WITH RAISER button located on the lower left-hand side
of the screen. The Enter Placement form will open asking you for details about the placement.
Enter as much information as you can at this time.
5) Once you have finished, click SAVE to save and close the placement form or CLOSE to return
without saving. You will be returned to the Pup Matching and Placement Menu where you can
repeat this process for additional puppies.
Editing/Ending a Current Placement
There is a difference between editing relationships and ending relationships in Reldog Lite. If a
puppy has been placed with a raiser that, for any reason, did not work out, it is important to allow the
system to track this type of information. In such cases, you will want to end a raiser’s relationship and
re-place the puppy with a new raiser. Deleting a placement should be reserved for accidental
placements of a puppy with the wrong person.
Editing a Current Placement
Note: If you are attempting to remove a puppy from a current raiser and placing them with a
new raiser, please following instructions located under Editing/Ending a Current Placement –
End Current Placement in this chapter.
Clicking EDIT PLACEMENT DATA takes you to the Edit Placement form where you can change the
Date Placed, Vet Assigned and other information related to the current placement. You would not
change the person the pup is placed with using this form.
End Current Placement
To end a relationship between a raiser and a puppy so that the puppy may be available to re-place
with another raiser:
Commented [j5]: To be linked upon completion.
6
1) Click END CURRENT PLACEMENT located on the Puppy Raising Services Menu.
2) The End Placement form will open to allow you to end the current relationship, write notes
about the end of the raiser’s relationship with the dog and to enter the location of the puppy,
and the raiser’s new application status. Enter the information in this form as thoroughly as
possible.
a. Enter the ending date for this relationship
b. Indicate if there is a special warning for this raiser and any appropriate comments about
the removal.
c. You may alter the “Provide Contact to Graduate” status – in most cases, you will want to
“unclick” the selection so that this raiser is removed from the list (as they are no longer
the official raiser for the dog).
d. If applicable, in the field labeled “Not Eligible to Adopt if Released”, enter the date that
the decision was made that this raiser was not eligible to adopt the dog. Add comments
about why there were not eligible to adopt in the comments space.
e. Indicate the Puppy Raiser’s application status selecting the status from the dropdown
list. In most cases the raiser’s application is ended, but it is possible that they are ready
for a different type of puppy or you may want to indicate that they are raisers you do not
want to use in the future.
f. Enter the disposition of the dog by selecting one of two options from the drop-down
menu: either “returned to us” or “in field until placed”. If you select “Returned to Us”,
the dog’s location will be change to “Training School”. If you select “In Field Until
Placed” a form will open asking you to enter the Temporary Sitter who has assumed
responsibility for the dog.
3) Once you have finished ending the relationship, you can now place the puppy with a new
raiser using the steps outlined above: Placing a Puppy with a Raiser.
7
Deleting a Current Placement
Should you identify a puppy where the wrong placement was accidentally entered in Reldog, use the
DELETE PLACEMENT button located on the Puppy Raising Menu. A form will open which will
entirely delete the placement record that was entered in error.
Puppy Evaluations
Reldog Lite has a few simple, validated tools available for your use. Before you begin utilizing any of
the tools in Reldog Lite, it is important for your organization to determine ways in which these tools
will be used, at what increments, who will be making the assessments and in what way. As with any
measurement tool, it is imperative to set a standard by which all people are assessing if you want
your data to be reliable and informational.
Temperament Notes and Breed Watch
In this form you can enter some brief temperament notes about pups on your program, and also
some helpful information about pups that have not yet been neutered or spayed.
Click ENTER/EDIT TEMPERAMENT NOTES + BREED WATCH to open the Enter Temp/BW form
where you can enter:
1) Breed Watch – Check this box for pups you want to consider for possible future breeding
stock. This can be a preliminary step, before changing their formal status to Breeder –
Initial Eval. You can also use this check box as a flag that this dog should NOT be neutered
or spayed until a decision has been made about their breeding potential.
2) Date Recall for Training - The likely date this dog will be brought back to your school for
formal testing or training.
3) Temperament Notes – Brief notes about this pup
4) Date Recommended Early Release – The date this dog is likely to be released from your
program
5) Date Recommended Early Neuter – If it is decided this dog is to be neutered/spayed prior
to your usual procedures
Temperament Evaluations
A Temperament Evaluation (also known as a Behavior Checklist) is a standardized measurement tool
intended for use by professional assessors/handlers only. This tool is NOT meant to be used by
laymen and, as such, use care when determining who will be making these regular assessments.
This tool will be most effective if the dog is assessed at regularly scheduled intervals.

Area Coordination and Region Management
Region Data Management
Add/Edit Regions
Region Nomenclature
You will want to decide on your own system for creating region names. For example, SEGD created
their region names by using the first four letters of the Region’s city. For instance: St. Petersburg =
STPE. Ft. Myers = FTMY. Dallas = DALL.
Creating a new region
To create a new region, click ADD REGION at the bottom of the Browse Pup Program Regions form.
Region names and abbreviations must be unique. Duplicate region names and abbreviations are not
allowed.
Similar to the Edit Pup Program Region form outlined above, this form gives you the opportunity to
enter known information about the new region and who manages it.
15
Region Start Date
Enter the date that the region will begin working
Region Name
Enter the full name of the region
Region Name Abbreviation
Enter an abbreviation for the region, which will be used for display purposes on some
browse forms. This abbreviation can be up to 5 characters long.
Puppy Supervisor
If individual staff share supervision of all regions, enter either the puppy program
manager or select the person that you want the bulletins notifying puppy program of
changes entered in Reldog Lite by others in the health, training and client sections.
The creation of the bulletins for the puppy supervisor are hard wired into Reldog Lite
and will be generated for dogs assigned to this region without assigning the bulletin for
the user in the Utilities Menu.
Area Coordinator
Double click the text box to select an Area Coordinator for this region. The Area
Coordinator is often a volunteer who helps support the region.
Goal Size Minimum
Commented [j6]: Barbara – I am not sure if it’s SEGD only – at
my school, we only have one person who is “in charge of all pups” –
at GEB you have a number of persons who are in charge of
individual regions and so the supervisor may be one of 10-20 people.
Commented [b7]: Same as above…this is SEGD related?
16
You may set a goal for minimum number of raisers desired in this region if you would
like.
Comments
Enter any comments you may have about the region.
Once you have completed the necessary steps to create a new region click SAVE to return to the
region list.

To edit a current region, select the region you would like to edit and click EDIT in the lower right hand
corner of the form.
From here you can edit any information on this pre-established region. It is important to indicate the
date and change you are making to the region in the Comments field so that future users can
understand the history of this particular region.
If one staff member is responsible for supervision of all regions, enter either the puppy program
manager or select the person that you want the bulletins notifying puppy program of changes entered
in Reldog Lite by others in the health, training and client sections. The creation of the bulletins for
the puppy supervisor are hard wired into Reldog Lite and will be generated for dogs assigned to this
region without assigning the bulletin for the user in the Utilities Menu.
The person selected as Puppy Supervisor will automatically receive bulletins related to puppy
program changes or health information entered related to puppies in this region.
When you are done making changes, click RETURN.
Enter Relationship Assessment
The Relationship Assessment which are the grayed out buttons on the Pup Program menu refer to an
evaluation type called the Relationship Assessment Tool (RAT). RAT is a proprietary tool developed
by Suzanne Clothier that is in use by Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Suzanne Clothier has indicated that
she will have training programs for RAT and for those who complete her requirements, we can make
the RAT forms available to their Reldog Lite.

Reports
Browse Litter
By clicking SIBLINGS on the Puppy Raising Menu, Reldog Lite will generate an easy-to-view list of all
of the dogs’ siblings, their names, sex, breed/color, their current status within your program, basic
scores, last weight, date of last evaluation, who they were placed with and the region in which they
live. Here, you also have the ability to view the Litter’s overall health to establish trends and some
other interesting information.
Commented [jr8]: I have emailed Suzanne Clothier to
determine if she is still in agreement with this approach and asked
for wording edits here. Not sure when I will hear back from her but
will pass on what I get so you can update it in the manual.
Commented [b9]: Let’s just leave out any explanation of this for
now and we will answer questions as people ask about it.

Chapter 4 – Breeding
The Breeding Menu
From the Breeding Menu, you will have the ability to do a number of things
related to everyday breeding activities and colony management. We will go
through each element of this menu and teach you how to use them.
About the Breeding Menu
Located in the top portion of the available window, the Menu is intended to give
you a quick snapshot of your school’s breeding colony – both past and present.
Filters
The top portion of the screen is designed to give the user the option to view the
school’s past and present colony at once or the user may utilize the filter
functions located at the top of the screen to hone in on specifics of the breeding
colony (such as specific breeds, only males/females, only active/retired dogs,
etc.)
The Dog Filter
Use this filter if you want to narrow the list of breeders to dogs by a specific
name. If you were to select, for example, “Fred” from this dropdown, the query
would filter only dogs within the colony with the name “Fred”. If several dogs
share the same name, they will all show, and the user will need to select the
appropriate one by additional details (breed, date of birth, dam/sire)
The Status Filter
Use this filter if you want to narrow the list of breeders to dogs which are of a
particular status such as “Active” or “Retired”.
The Retire Pending Filter
Use this filter to view dogs which are either Retirement Pending = “Yes” or
Retirement Pending = “No”.
The Sex Filter
Use this filter to view dogs of a particular sex.
The Breed Filter
Use this filter to view dogs only of a particular breed.
Using Filter Combinations
You can use as many or as few filters as you would like. Remember, however,
that for each filter you apply, you are narrowing your list.
Reset Your Filters
To remove all filters and start the filter process again, click the RESET button
located in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Breeding/Whelping
Heat Start
Reldog makes it easy to track and manage the heat cycle of females in your
active breeding colony. To begin a dog’s heat, identify and select the dog for
which you are entering heat information, then click the HEAT START button
located on the lower left-hand portion of the screen. The system will default to
the present date. You may overwrite this if the date is different. Once you have
entered the start date of the heat cycle, enter any heat notes that you may like to
include and then click SAVE to save and close or CLOSE to close without
saving. Reldog Lite will save this information in the dog’s heat record.
Once you have entered a female’s heat start information, the female will be
available in the Heat Menu to manage her Heat Cycle.
Note: You are only able to enter the heat start for an active breeder with the
HEAT START button. To enter the heat of a female puppy on program, enter it
though the Dog Health Menu, ENTER PUPPY HEAT.
Projected Heats
The PROJECTED HEATS button is designed to give you insight into the
upcoming heats of females within your breeding colony only. When you click the
PROJECTED HEATS button, Reldog Lite will compile a list of expected heat
cycles based on the average heat interval entered into the system through the
VIEW/EDIT REPROD DATA of each breeding female. You can utilize this
information to know when your colony may encounter lulls in breeding activity
and when to expect the breeding department to be busy. The accuracy of this
browse requires that every heat start is entered for every brood, regardless of the
intent to breed or not. Accuracy also required that the information within
VIEW/EDIT REPROD DATA is current for each female.
Semen Analysis
Keeping records of individual stud’s semen quality are very easy with ReldogLite.
There are two different ways to enter semen analyses.
For any semen analysis performed for any non-breeding purposes, use the
SEMEN ANALYSIS button after selecting the stud dog. Through a series of
dropdowns, you will be able to document all aspects of the collection.
If semen is collected to be used for an immediate insemination, the semen
analysis should be entered through the HEAT MENU -> and then selecting the
appropriate female -> INSEMINATION button. Upon SAVE of the Insemination,
a Semen Analysis form will appear. By storing an Insemination for each
breeding an ejaculation record will be stored for that stud.
Edit Semen
A stud’s ejaculation history can be reviewed at any time by selecting the stud and
then the EDIT SEMEN button. If the ejaculation was used to breed a female,
her name will show in the far right column as well as the size of the litter once
whelped. Should you need to change the reason for the ejaculation, select EDIT
EJACULATION.
You can also choose the EDIT ANALYSIS button if you need to change or add
anything about any of the ejaculation records.
The Heat Menu
The Heat Menu is the home of female’s which are currently in heat. By clicking
the HEAT MENU button from the Breeding Menu, Reldog Lite will compile and
display a list of dogs which are currently in season.
Breeding Decisions
From the Heat Menu, select the female you wish to breed by clicking the female’s
name. By then selecting BREEDING DECISION, Reldog Lite will open a
Breeding Plan in which you can enter information regarding the plan for this heat.
Fill in the breeding plan as completely as possible then click RETURN to save
your information and return to the Heat Menu.
1. Put a check in the Plan To Breed box if you are breeding the brood this heat. Even if you
haven’t decided who to breed her to yet, but selecting this, it shows a checkmark on her
Heat Menu, alerting your technicians that you plan to breed her.
2. From the drop-down list select your decision if you plan to breed this brood on her next
heat. This information is required to save the breeding decision.
3. Enter the breed of the proposed litter
4. From the drop-down list enter Stud First Choice. If the stud does not appear on this list,
go to the DOG MENU  select the male then  EDIT DOG DATA then put a check in
the Stud List checkbox. Enter a Backup Stud if desired.
5. The Litter Owner is defaulted to your school. Change this by double clicking the white
field to the left of Reg Litter Owner, select a person or organization and return.
6. The Universal Prefix is defaulted to your school. When the puppies are born, RDL will
assign the Universal Dog ID for pups born at your school that are owned by your
organization.
7. A check in the field Produced for Us indicates pups are being produced for your school
(default is a check in this field). Un-checking the box means that the pups are for a
cooperative breeding, usually in cases where the bitch is owned by another school, and
that school will whelp and keep most or all of the puppies.
Production
Click PRODUCTION button on the Breeding Decision form to view a chart of
statistics for each of the past 10 months for:
o Heats Projected
o Breedings Resulting in Pregnancy
o Whelpings
o Pups released at puppy test (approx. 8 weeks) and placed with other
organizations
o Puppies placed in our puppy raising program
o Pups off Program-
o Graduated Dogs
Ten months of data are displayed so that the number in the Total column can be
easily divided (by 10) to give you an average monthly number. This chart gives
managers an overview of current statistics to help determine whether or not a
litter is necessary to maintain production goals.
Brood Data
This button will open the female’s Breeder Data form that will provide you with an
overview of the breeder’s own data and health production data. See View/Edit
Breeder Data
Test Pedigree
RDL has the ability to generate a hypothetical pedigree for any proposed litter
within the Breeding Decision form. By clicking TEST PEDIGREE, a blank
pedigree will show, with only the female’s name listed in the left margin. Select
a stud from the dropdown and click PEDIGREE. This will fill in the three
generations along with abbreviated genetic data displays.

elbow diagnosis.
o Ep 2% is the percent of progeny that have a score 1 or 2 diagnosis
for any neurological diagnosis including congenital defects of all
progeny from this breeder that have a neurological diagnosis.
The TEST PEDIGREE screen is also an interactive form. By doubleclicking on
the gray name fields, the Breeder Data form opens, which displays additional
information about that specific dog. See View/Edit Breeder Data .
To select a different stud option, simply select a different stud dog and click
PEDIGREE again.
Stud List
An extremely helpful way of creating a short list of possible mates is to select the
STUD LIST button within the pedigree form. This will list all active studs within
your colony. It is arranged alphabetically, and will show the inbreeding
coefficient of the resulting litter, should you breed him to this female. Make your
short list of options based on those studs that will produce the lower inbreeding
coefficients.
Stud Use
Clicking the Stud Use button in the Breeding Menu will give you a quick
breakdown on the studs in your colony and the frequency with which you have
used them over the course of the last six years. There is a < > Column that lists
the number of litters bred but not yet whelped and these are included in the Total
Column. This is a quick way of assessing if you are utilizing each stud equally.
To view the litters, click BROWSE LITTERS, where you will see the dam, number
of live pups and number of stillborn pups for each litter.
Browse Heats

FROM CLOVER
Heat End Sum
Why summarize the heat?
The ideal time to enter notes about the heat and mating is while the information
is current. When a mating fails to produce a normal sized litter, review of the
heat and insemination is critical to identify the cause. The most common cause
of poor conception is breeding at the wrong time however there are numerous
reasons:
 Insemination at the wrong time
 Insemination technique issues
 Semen quality is poor due to semen handling or stud problem
 Brood reproductive problems
Clicking Heat Entry Done removes the brood from the Heat Menu
There are two pages to this Heat Summary. The first page has information about
the brood and the second page has mostly stud/semen/insemination information.
On the second page, there is a check box titled Heat Entry Done. In order to
complete the Heat Summary this box must be checked when you click on
RETURN. Once saved, this heat will no longer appear on the Heat Menu when
you open it.
Editing the Heat Summary
There are two paths to access the Heat Summary for edits:
For broods that are pregnant, click MAIN MENU  BREEDING 
LITTERS DUE MENU  select the brood  EDIT HEAT SUMMARY
For all broods, MAIN MENU  BREEDING  Select the brood using the
Dog drop-down list then  VIEW/EDIT REPROD DATA BROWSE
HEATS  EDIT HEAT SUMMARY
Page 2
Suggestions on filling out page 1 of the Heat Summary
Click the check box Problem and fill in comments if there is something abnormal
about the heat.
Heat Abnormal- an overall assessment of the heat. Click yes for problem if
anything on the first page is also clicked as a problem
Progesterone Rise Pattern- it is helpful to enter comments that the
progesterone values agreed with the selected dates for inseminations. For
natural matings LH days +3 and +5 or LH +4 and +6 are considered ideal. For
frozen semen matings LH days +5 and +7 are considered idela. It is worth noting
if the progesterone rise pattern is atypical such as a high baseline value or fast
rise.
Synchrony- For the textbook heat, the smear, discharge color, brood
receptivity, vaginoscopy and progesterone values are all prime at around the
same time. It is well known however that aspects of the heat controlled by
estrogen may not be in synchrony with the actual ovulation timing.
Discharge, Smear, Vaginoscopy- Note abnormalities in the discharge, smear
or vaginoscopy.
Microorganisms- Bacteria are normal inhabitants of the vaginal tract making
routine vaginal cultures unnecessary. Note problems caused by microorganisms
or the presence of Herpes virus or Brucellosis as diagnosed by a veterinarian as
abnormal.
Heat interval- Intervals less than 5 months are not likely to result in a
conception. It is noteworthy if the heat interval is less than 5 months or
substantially longer than the rest of your broods.
Brood Age- A reduction in fertility may be noticed as broods age past 6 years
old or have had multiple consecutive heats where they did not conceive a litter
due to not breeding or no conception.
Suggestions for filling out Page 2
Insemination Timing Drop-Down List and Insemination Procedure Drop
Down List--
Helpful for analysis later on conception rates as compared with insemination
timing.
Insemination Timing- Check if timing was not ideal and add notes as to why.
The 1st breeding’s progesterone value should be >6ng/ml. The 2nd breeding’s
progesterone value should be >12 ng/ml. If the value is not that high, a third
breeding must be considered.
Insemination Procedure- Natural matings are the ideal insemination procedure
for maximum conception rate.
Insemination Volume Less than 5 cc (ml)- Larger volumes for AI matings are
generally considered to be better than volumes less than 5 cc
Semen Quality- Ideally the semen was assessed around the time of mating
microscopically for count, motility and abnormals.
Stud Health and Age- Systemic illnesses in the past 3 months may negatively
impact semen.quality as well as problems in the reproductive tract. Semen
quality and quantity diminishes in the older stud.
Peak Breed Date- Date that you feel was the ideal date for insemination
D=0 Date- the onset of diestrus when the vaginal smear reaches 50% parabasal
cells with a possible white blood cell shower

the form, select SAVE to save and return to the Litters Due Menu or RETURN to
return without saving. If you have entered a negative pregnancy result, the dog
will be removed from the Litters Due Menu. If you have entered a positive
pregnancy result, the Dam will remain on the Litters Due Menu list for the
duration of her gestation and Reldog lite will generate a due date based on the
data you entered into the system during heat cycle and your breeding attempts.

Preparing for a Dam’s due date
In preparation for a Dam’s whelp, you can utilize the ENTER/EDIT WK INFO
button from the Litters Due Menu. Here, enter information pertinent to the Dam’s
birthing plan and press SAVE.
Whelping Puppies in Reldog Lite
When a dam has given birth to her litter, utilize the ENTER WHELP INFO
BUTTON located on the lower right-hand side of the Litters Due Menu.
1. The system will prompt you to enter the name of the Dam to confirm that
you are entering a whelp for the appropriate dog. Please note: Entering
puppies on the incorrect dam is a very time consuming and difficult action
to reverse and must be performed by an Administrator. Please take the
time to confirm that you are entering information for the correct dog before
proceeding.
2. Enter the name and tattoo of the female who delivered in the box provided
then click OK to proceed.
3. Reldog will ask you to complete the form that opens before you will begin
entering individual puppy information.
4. Enter the date of the birth for the Litter (NOTE: Your school will need to
decide “how to handle” litters which span overnight whelps. It is perfectly
appropriate to enter the litter’s birthday as the day that the whelp
CONCLUDED).
5. Enter the location of the whelp by selecting HERE or HOME from the
dropdown menu.
6. Enter the Litter’s ID Number. If your aren’t sure what the next Litter’s ID
number would be, selected the LITTER LETTER button located on the
lower left-hand side of the screen and a window will open showing you a
list of the litter letters which have already been used. You will want to
enter the next Litter ID in the sequence into the “LitterID” field and confirm
the Litter ID in the “LitterID Again” field.
7. Double-click the “Whelped Litter” field and a “Find Whelper” Screen will
open from which you can select a person from the dropdown menu. Once
you have properly identified the person, click RETURN to return to the
Litter Entry Screen.
8. Enter any comments in the “Comments” box which you believe are
pertinent to the Dam’s whelping experience. This is NOT the appropriate
location to enter information regarding specific pups, but rather the Dam’s
experience delivering all puppies in the litter.
Entering Individual Puppies Born
The details of labor are an important part of the school understanding a Dam’s
success in the breeding program. It is important to track details such as time
between pups and whether any specific pups required assistance either while
birthing or following their whelp. Reldog Lite Puppy Entry Form allows you to
easily enter and store this information for future reference.
1. Whelpers should track the time it takes for a mom to push each puppy out.
When the Dam begins to bear down to birth a pup, whelpers will enter the
time into the “Labor Start” field. When the Dam has successfully birthed
the puppy, whelpers will note the “Labor End” time and record it in the
appropriate field.
2. By entering a “Pup Number”, Reldog Lite will automatically tattoo the
puppy in the system. It’s important to note that while a pups number can
be changed later, the tattoo number is not as easily changed. It’s best
practice to enter the pups number and not attempt to alter it later.
3. Enter the other information requested in the Enter Pup Born Screen. To
save and enter more puppies born, click SAVE. If you are done with
entering puppies born, then click CLOSE. Reldog Lite will bring you to the
Litter Care Menu upon closing.
If you made any mistakes regarding the puppy’s sex or other components of the
Enter Pup Born screen, you may make adjustments to the puppies from the
Litters Due Menu. See: Editing Puppy Information for more.

BREEDER DATA
Reldog Lite offers you a few, easy-to-use tools which may assist you in
evaluating and understanding your breeding colony.
View/Edit Breeder Data
By selecting a dog from the Breeding Menu and then clicking the VIEW/EDIT
BREEDER DATA button, Reldog Lite will provide you with a snapshot of the
breeder’s own data.
Total Pups Mature- Number of progeny from the specified sire or dam that were
whelped at the school or donated to the school that are >540 days old
Colony member- yes/no field that is updated here. Used to sort dogs
Generation Coefficient- calculated by RDL when button GENERATION
COEFFICIENT in the Breeding Menu is pushed. This is most accurate when
ancestors with genetic data is entered in RDL. Generation Coefficient is used
when assessing if dogs are improving genetically through selection. Decreasing
the generation interval increases the chance for genetic improvement when
applying the principles of selection.
Inbreeding Coefficient- (IC or COI) an estimate is calculated by RDL when
button UPDATE INBREEDING in the Breeding Menu is pushed. COI expresses
common heritage and specifically indicates the probability that the two alleles for
any gene are identical by descent.
Nbr- Total number of dog added by RDL of progeny that were evaluated for each
of the traits listed ie Success, Skin, Hips, Elbows etc.
% Score- Percent calculated by RDL of progeny that are Successful divided by
the total. The percent health diseases is the number of progeny with a score
code of 1 or 2 divided by the number evaluated for the trait. Scores range from 5
(a desirable quality) to 1 (very undesirable quality). You can change the score
code in Utilities/UPDATE REF TABLES/VET DIAGNOSIS DETAILS EDIT.
% EBV- Relative ranking of this dog compared to the current breeding dogs in
your colony calculated by RDL based on the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for
the trait. EBVs are created in genetic programs such as MTDFReml, MTGSam,
IBay from data exported from RDL to these programs then the EBVs are
imported back into RDL.
% EBV All- Relative ranking this dog compared to all breeding dogs in your
colony calculated by RDL based on the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for the
trait.
% EBV Kept- Relative ranking of this dog at the time the dog was selected as
a breeder compared to the current breeding dogs in your colony calculated by
RDL based on the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for the trait.
Last Eye Exam- Last eye exam when the checkbox for Eye Exam is Yes when
the diagnosis is entered. This designates the dog had a complete
ophthalmologic exam preferably by a board certified ophthalmologist.
Optigen Result, VWD, DNA, etc– We are changing this- there will be a
subform/browse with genetically important lab results.
Health Conditions Produced
GO TO PAGE 2 button continues this listing of health production concerns.
HEALTH PRODUCTION button that will show all diagnoses recorded on any
progeny from this individual. You are offered a number of filters which you may
use independently or in combination to view specific diagnoses or affected
systems.
View/Edit Reproduction Data
After selecting a dog from the Breeding Menu, the VIEW/EDIT REPROD DATA
button will provide you with basic information about the dog’s reproductive health
history. Information such as conception rate, average litter size, and
stillborn/neonatal losses can be viewed here
Additional subjective assessments can be made regarding Fertility and Whelp
Quality, as well as a Comments section for any additional information.
There are several user input fields here that will help manage and forecast future
heat cycles. Once the user enters the number of months that is typical for a
specific female, Reldog Lite will then be able to calculate when the next one
might be and show it correctly on the PROJECTED HEATS browse. The Ave
Heat Interval should be reviewed each time a female comes into heat, and
changed if necessary, as it could affect when she is next expected to come into
heat.
Pedigree Pheno
The PEDIGREE PHENO button will generate a five-generation pedigree for the
dog you select in the Breeding Menu. This Pedigree Pheno will indicate the
dog’s lineage, as well as abbreviated ancestral health production data. By
doubleclicking on the gray blocked name of any individual within the pedigree,
you are able to open that dog’s Breeder Data. This can save significant time
when researching pedigrees .

GEB TO WRITE THIS SECTION
Individual and Sibling Temperament
GEB TO WRITE THIS SECTION. Because SEGD has not yet utilized the Dog
Behavior Checklist on enough dogs, there is nothing really populating this section
and, as such, we have not been using this feature in our breeding decisions. I
think we are only using the checklist, at the moment, for IFT Temperament tests.
BARBARA – please note that I checked for a dog who DOES have behavior
checklists entered on them. I found their dam, then went into the breeding
section and used this button see if it was utilizing the information to populate
frmLitterBrowse – it is not.
Selection Notes
The SELECTION NOTES button can be used to enter free-form notes on a dog if
you so choose. Simply select the dog you wish to enter notes on (or wish to view
previously written notes about) and click SELECTION NOTES.
Health Summary
To quickly view a health summary for the Dam or Sire within the colony, select
the dog from the Breeding Menu list and then click HEALTH SUMMARY. Reldog
Lite will compile a quick list of the dog’s current weight, target weight, vaccination
information, and a list of diagnoses entered on the dog. From this screen you
can do a number of things including viewing the dog’s Health History or
diagnoses, browse the dam’s/sire’s littermates, or browse medications prescribed
to the dog. (see Medical Menu)
Retirement Pending
You may wish to keep track of dogs which are being considered for retirement.
To do this, simply select the dog you are planning on retiring from the Breeding
Menu, then click RETIREMENT PENDING. In the window that pops up, select
“Retirement Pending” and enter any notes that you feel may be necessary. Then
click “RETURN” to save and return to the Breeding Menu. (Note: If you selected
this dog by accident and do NOT intend to retire the dog, simply keep all fields
blank and click RETURN and the dog will remain as they were).
Once you have indicated a dog is pending retirement, you may utilize the
“Pending Retirement” filter in the upper right hand corner to quickly take a look at
all dogs within your colony which are close to their retirement.

CLOSE to return without saving.
Note: once a female has been officially Retired within the system, you will not be
able to enter a Heat Start for her, or monitor her heat cycle should she come into
heat after the status change was made.
BREEDER PLACEMENT
How to create a Breeder Keeper Record
In order to place a dog with a breeder keeper, you will first need to determine if
the person you are intending to place the dog with has already been entered into
Reldog Lite as a person. To do this:
1) Exit the Breeding Menu and enter the People Menu
2) Search for the person you intend to place the dog with by click the
downward-facing arrow and then beginning to type the person’s last
name. If the name you are looking for is not in the list, you will need to
add the person (see: Chapter X – People for information on adding new
people). If the person you are looking for is in the list, proceed to Step 3.
3) From the People Menu, select CREATE/EDIT BREEDER KEEPER. The
form that opens is a generalized Breeder Keeper application. You can
utilize this form for your own breeder keeper selection process or you can
choose not to use most of the form. Two components of this application
which must be completed in order for the person to be eligible for breeder
Commented [j10]: To be linked upon completion
keeping are the elements located on Page 1 of this application (also
known as the “Main Application” and whether or not the applicant was
“accepted” to the program located on page two (also know as the
“Application Detail” page). Once these elements have been successfully
entered, you may SAVE to save the application and return to the Person
Menu or you can CLOSE to return to the Person Menu without saving.
Assigning a Breeder to a Breeder Keeper in Reldog Lite
Once a person is in Reldog Lite and has been setup as a Breeder Keeper in the
system, attaching that person to the dog is quite easy. To do this, click PLACE
W BRD KEEPER in the Breeding Menu. Complete the required information in
the form. Remember, to select a person’s name, double-click the box with blue
text, select the person you are looking for then RETURN to save the person and
complete the assignment.
Editing or Ending a Breeder Keeper relationship
To edit or end the breeder keeper relationship, select the breeder for which you
need to make adjustments to the keeper relationship then click EDIT/END
Placement. Select the current foster relationship then click EDIT to make
adjustments to the current placement.
To end the currently placement, enter an end date in the “End Date” field, then
click SAVE to save and return to the Breeding Menu or CLOSE to return to the
Breeding Menu without saving.
If you ended the breeder keeper relationship, the dog is now available to place
into a new/different home. See “Assigning a Breeder to a Breeder Keeper in
Reldog Lite” for more information on placing a dog into the care of a Breeder
Keeper.
Please note: The ending of a relationship should only be done if the end of the
relationship is permanent. It is also important to point out that if the relationship
is ending because the dog is being retired, you should follow the steps outlined in
Chapter X – Breeding: Retire a Breeder to appropriate end the breeder keeper
relationship and make the correct adjustments to the dog’s status
simultaneously.
Entering/Editing Behavioral Information for Active Breeders
It is important to enter behavioral incidences for dogs in your active breeding
program. It will help you to track negative incidences such as aggression or
protectiveness.
To enter a behavioral incidence on a dog within your colony or to edit a
preexisting behavioral incident on a dog which has already been entered, select

the dog for which you would like to enter an incident from the Breeding Menu
then click the ENTER/EDIT BEHAVIOR INCIDENCE button.
Enter a New Incident
To enter a new incident , select the appropriate dog, select the ENTER
INCIDENT button located on the lower left-hand side of the screen. Enter the
required information requested on the Dog Behavior Incident form which appears
then press SAVE to return to the Enter/Edit Screen or RETURN to close without
saving.
Edit an Existing Incident
To enter an existing incident, select the incident you would like to view or change
and then click the EDIT INCIDENT button. Make any changes you wish then
click RETURN to save your changes and return to the Enter/Edit Incident menu.
Delete an Incident
In the unlikely and uncommon event that you should need to delete a behavioral
incident on a dog, click the entry you wish to remove then select the DELETE
INCIDENT button to delete the record entirely. Please note that once you delete
the record you cannot get the record back so be extremely certain that you are
selecting the right record on the right dog before you perform this function.
PROGENY DATA
Progeny
From the Breeding Menu, the PROGENY button will generate a browse showing
you all offspring of the dog you selected in the Breeding Menu. This browse will
include the offspring’s name, the breeding pairing they resulted from, their DOB,
sex, current status with the school, and the current medical rating on the dog.
From this browse, you may select a dog and look at Temperament Evaluations
which have been entered on individual offspring or you may wish to Browse
Diagnoses entered for the dog you select within the browse.
There are two filters at the top to allow you to sort by Program type or Current
Status, if desired.
Progeny Success
The PROGENY SUCCESS button enables you to quickly identify the success of
specific pairings. By selecting a dog from the Breeding Menu and then click the
PROGENY SUCCESS button, Reldog Lite will compile a list of mating
combinations that dog has been a part of and generate general information about
the success of produced litters.
The percentage of dogs “used” = (guides + breeders) / (released + guides +
breeders)
Health Production
By selecting a dog from the Breeding Menu and then selecting the HEALTH
PRODUCTION button, Reldog Lite will generate a browse containing diagnoses
information entered on each offspring produced by the dog you selected.
Information contained in this browse can be filtered by Pheno Category (also
known as “systems”) or by the “count against” severity of the entries or by
whether the dog was released as a result of the diagnoses. These filters may be
used independently or may be used in combination to minimize the results of the
query.
To reset the filters, click the RESET button located to the left of the filters.
Reasons for Release
To get a quick snapshot of a dog’s offspring’s primary reasons for medical
release from the program, select the dog whose offspring you wish to view and
click “REL REASONS”. The system will generate a browse based on diagnoses
which have been entered in Reldog Lite where the person entering the
information indicated that the diagnoses is causing the dog to be released from
the program. Please note that the system only utilizes Medical reasons for
release for this function and does not utilize non-medical release
recommendations in this section.
BARBARA – I LOVE THIS FUNCTION, but there is a lot of ownership on multiple
department’s team members to indicate that they are recommending the dog for
release based on information they are entering in the system. At my school, for
instance, the only area where the staff has that type of authority/ability is in the
Medical Services Department and the only time they are entering it, at present, is
for failed hips. I don’t think that we are utilizing this function to the best of our
ability and could use some guidance on what step our medical services team is
missing in order to be most effective as this spot.

COLONY DATA-Understanding Your Colony as a Whole
Active Breeders
By clicking the ACTIVE BREEDERS button from the Breeding Menu, Reldog Lite
will compile a basic, simple browse design to show you a breakdown of your
breeding colony. The browse will show you the breeds which are active in
program and how many of each breed you have or have had in the program,
broken down by sex.
NOTE to BARBARA: I am not sure if this working properly as the system is
indicating that we have 6 Female Golden Retrievers pending retirement and 2
Male Golden Retrievers due to retire. It’s also showing 85 female labs and 20
male labs due to retire. None of this information is accurate. We don’t have
anywhere near that number of goldens in our colony and our “retirement
pending” list is currently 2 dogs. Lastly, there is a “Goal’ number set here – but I
have not found a spot where I can set this for our school.
Stud Use
Clicking the Stud Use button will give you a quick breakdown on the studs in your
colony and the frequency with which you have used them over the course of the
last six years. There is a < > Column that lists the number of litters bred but not
yet whelped and these are included in the Total Column. This is a quick way of
assessing if you are utilizing each stud equally.
To view the litters, click BROWSE LITTERS, where you will see the dam, number
of live pups and number of stillborn pups for each litter.
Diseases Produced
By clicking the DISEASES PRODUCED button in the Breeding Menu, Reldog
Lite will compile a browse of all diagnoses entered into Reldog Lite for your entire
colony; it is not limited to breeding stock. You are offered a number of filters
which you may use independently or in combination to view specific diagnoses or
affected systems.
Health Trends
The HEALTH TRENDS button will enable you to take a look at the diagnostic
trends within your community over the past 13 years.
Incidence by Diagnoses Year
Similarly to DISEASES produced, the INCIDENCE BY DIAGNOSES YEAR
breakdown individual diagnoses by individual year.
Health Summaries
Located in the lower left-hand corner of the Health Production Menu, Reldog Lite
offers you another way to view offspring information. By clicking HEALTH
SUMMARY DAM or HEALTH SUMMARY SIRE, Reldog Lite will streamline the
results showing in the Health Production Menu by breaking down all diagnoses
being shown by system and then indicating the number of dogs produced with
issues assigned to each of those systems. The column headers “1, 2, 3, 4, and
5” is the level of severity of the diagnoses which was entered against a puppy –
where 1 = very severe and 5 = very mild.

Chapter 5 – The Dog Section
About the Dog Menu
The Dog Menu has been designed to give users a central location where they
can find pieces of information about a dog’s life. While the dog’s lifespan should
be managed in the appropriate modules, the Dog Menu can give users a brief
snapshot of the dog over the course of the dog’s lifetime.
Edit Dog Data
The EDIT DOG DATA button gives users the opportunity to change key
characteristics of a dog at your school. Whether this button functions or not for
any individual user is managed by the Reldog System Administrator and most
users will not have the authorization to edit a dog’s data in this form. The EDIT
DOG DATA button should only be used by key personnel within an organization
to make adjustments to data which may have been incorrectly entered through
appropriate modules. Examples include a dog’s name, tattoo number or
microchip number.
If you are among the few users with permission to use this form:
1) Select the dog you wish to adjust information on from the dropdown list
located in the upper left-hand corner of the Dog Menu.
2) Click EDIT DOG DATA
3) To edit a dog’s name (spelling or name change):
a. Select the CHANGE NAME button located in the lower left-hand
corner.
i. Note: if the dog has already been placed with a raiser or a
graduate, Reldog Lite will generate a warning message for
you.
b. From the form that appears, double click on the dog’s current name
in the Call Name field.
c. A new form will open where you may adjust the dog’s name. To do
this, type the new name of the dog in field under “name search”.
By typing the name in this field, the list to the left will scroll to the
place in the alphabet where the name should be.
i. If the name is not on the list, you will need to add the dog’s
name to the list by completing the steps outlined in Chapter
X: The Utilities Menu – Puppy Naming.
d. Once you have found the name you want, select the name by
double clicking it from the list on the left-hand side. This will
highlight the name.
e. Click DONE to save the change.
4) Changes to many of the other fields can be accomplished by simply
editing the field. Once changes have been made, select SAVE_CLOSE to
return to the Dog Menu.
Changing a Dog’s Status
A dog’s status should be properly managed through the appropriate module. For
instance, a puppy’s entrance into the puppy program or its transition from “active
puppy in the program” to “IFT” is managed through the Puppy Raising section
(See Chapter X: Puppy Raising for more information). A dog’s graduation from
“IFT” to “Active Graduate” is managed in the Client Services section (See
Chapter X: Client Services for more information. And, lastly, a dog’s retirement
or release from the any program may be managed from the module associated
with the dog’s current lifecycle status.
The CHANGE STATUS button located in the Dog Menu should only be used by
key personnel to either correct a status change error or to assist with special
circumstances where the dog may have reentered the program. It is important
the use of this button be limited to personnel who understand the adjustments
that are being made behind the scenes Reldog Lite such as your administrator.

  • 1. Welcome to Reldog Lite Welcome Welcome to Reldog Lite! Reldog Lite is a relational database designed for organizations breeding and training working dogs. Organizations of all sizes can use the program’s tools to increase the speed at which they improve the quality of their dogs and use the data from training and client placements to monitor the effectiveness of program improvements and identify further areas to make the best use of resources. Understanding Reldog Lite Before you embark on your journey into Reldog Lite, understanding some basic principals of the program will expedite your learning. At its core, Reldog Lite uses two critical pieces of information: Dogs and People. Detailed data such as medical histories, puppy raisers, whelping information, etc. are managed by identifying the relationship that those details have with the dog or the person (hence: “relational database”). By managing the data in this way, the system provides you with limitless ways you can cull and study the data which is most important to you. Entering Reldog Lite How to Log-in to Reldog Lite The most efficient way to enter Reldog Lite will vary based on how your network professionals have configured your system. For small organizations, the database may be available and accessible by entering the server directly. For larger organizations who have established the system in a Citrix or Citrix-like environment, individual users may have personalized ways of entering the database. Please check with your IT department to learn how to access the database. Signing-in to Reldog Lite Once you have entered the database, it is not uncommon for Access (the program which runs Reldog Lite) to provide you with a warning message that looks like this:
  • 2. What’s happening here is that the system is warning you that the program that you are about open contains code which may be harmful to your computer. Reldog Lite’s open source code is what causes this warning. The program will not run without the code, so press “Open”. A window will open on your screen asking you to select a user name and enter a password. Select your name from the drop-down menu and enter the password which was provided to you by your Reldog System Administrator. If your name is not available on the drop-down, or if the password provided to you is not working, contact your administrator. The Bulletins Screen Upon entering Reldog Lite, you will immediately be brought to the Bulletins screen. Bulletins are assigned by your Reldog Lite Administrator and are designed to provide key personnel with information which is most pertinent to them. For example, if a dog is Career Changed, a bulletin may be created to notify Puppy Raising Services, Sponsorship personnel, and the Training Kennel Manager simultaneously and automatically. Once you have become familiar with Reldog Lite, contact your Reldog Lite Administrator to find out bulletins which are available for you to receive. Viewing a Bulletin To view a bulletin, select the Bulletin you wish to see then select GO TO DETAIL. The system will open the event which caused you to receive the bulletin, and you will have the opportunity to review the event thoroughly. Sending a Memo A memo is similar to an email in the sense that you are able to select a person to whom you would like to send a notification. This function is not intended to replace email. Instead, memos can provide quick communication between personnel who may not have access to email at the time and need to send something to their colleague quickly. To send a memo, select SEND MEMO on the lower right-hand side, select the person to whom you intend to send the memo and enter any information you would like to include in the large memo box. When finished, select SEND. The memo will be sent automatically to the users bulletin screen and will be available for their review the next time they log on. Commented [J1]: Barbara – please verify that this is accurate?
  • 3. Deleting Bulletins As you become more involved with Reldog Lite, Bulletins can get backed up very quickly. It is important not to retain bulletins which are no longer important to you. They are intended to give you quick information and should be discarded, if possible, after review. To delete a bulletin, select the bulletin you would like to discard by placing a check in the box directly to the left of the bulletin. Do this for each bulletin you intend to delete and either move on to the next screen by selecting MAIN MENU or leave the system by selecting the large X in the upper right hand corner. The bulletins will be gone the next time you open the Bulletins form. Entering the Main Menu The Main Menu is the central location from which you can access any information in the system. It is broken into 9 sections: Dogs, Breeding, Dog Health, Puppy Raising, Temperament, Training, People, Client Services and Utilities. The system was constructed such that departments which perform specific functions are able to complete their responsibilities without leaving their section. This central system allows users to enter data which is important to them, and which they need regular access to, without searching for the location in which to access it. People The People Menu is where all people are entered and where their contact information and relationships with the school can be managed. More information can be found in Chapter 1: The People Menu. Dog Menu The Dog Menu is meant to provide a general overview of dog data. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 2: The Dog Menu. Breeding The Breeding Menu is the central location for all things Breeding. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 3: The Breeding Menu. Dog Health The Dog Health Menu houses information critical to a dog’s medical history. Weight Management, vaccinations, diagnoses, procedures, etc. can be found here. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 4: The Dog Health Menu. Puppy Raising The Puppy Raising Menu enables Puppy Raising personnel to enter puppy raiser matches and relationships, manage sponsorships, assign vets to a puppy, recall Commented [J2]: To be linked upon completion. • 4. dogs for training, and enter and manage puppy raiser evaluations. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 5: The Puppy Raising Services Menu. Temperament The Temperament Menu allows you to enter information key to the dog’s behavior and gives you the opportunity to enter Training Reports, Behavioral Incidences, Behavior Checklists, 8 Trait Evaluation, and C-Barq Scores. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 6: The Temperament Menu. Training The Training Menu enables your Training Department to assign dogs to training strings, manage trainer assignments, track dog training reports and training hours, and report behavioral incidents and behavior checklists. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 7: The Training Menu. Client Services The Client Services menu offers Client Services personnel the opportunity to manage student applications, graduation, contact notes, field visits and equipment. More on this menu is covered in Chapter 8: The Client Services Menu. Utilities The Utilities menu offers the Reldog Lite Administrator the flexibility to adjust drop-down options through out the program to suit the needs of your organization through customization. Work with your program administrator to learn more about which areas of this menu you are permitted to access and which should be managed by the administrator. Commented [J5]: To be linked upon completion Commented [j6]: Barbara – please provide me with some context on how GEB uses this form and when they use it? • 5. 1 Chapter 2 Puppy Raising Before You Get Started Puppy Raising Regions Puppy Raising Regions were entered by your Reldog Lite System Administrator upon initial setup. The directions below outline the steps which must be taken to add additional regions. Adding and Editing Puppy Raiser Regions Puppy Raiser regions are best managed by one person within your Puppy Raising Services Department. To add or edit Puppy Raiser Regions: 1) From the Main Menu, select UTILITIES. 2) From the Utilities Menu, select REGION PUPPY RAISER ADD/EDIT. To Add a Region 1) Select ADD REGION located at the bottom of the form. 2) Complete the information requested by the Enter New Puppy Program Region form. You will need to double-click the “Area Coordinator” and select an area coordinator from the dropdown list on the subform Find Area Coordinator. 3) Once complete, select SAVE to save and return or CLOSE to return without saving. To Edit an Existing Region 1) Select the region you wish to edit on the Browse Pup Program Regions form by selecting the gray bar immediately to the left of the Region Name column. 2) Click EDIT REGION to make adjustments to the current region. 3) Once complete, select RETURN to save and return to the previous window. Managing Puppy Raising Contact Information Creating a New Person in Reldog Lite For each application you receive in Puppy Raising Services, you will need to check to see if the person has already been entered into Reldog Lite. If the person has no previous relationship with the school, enter the person into Reldog Lite using the steps outlined in Chapter 1: The People Menu – Entering a New Person to create a new person record. Update/verify information if person is already in Reldog Lite Now is a good time to add or edit any information about the raiser such as who the family members are, email, cell phone contacts, best time to reach etc. Refer to Chapter 1: The People Menu – Viewing and Editing Contact Information for how to update information. Commented [j1]: To be linked upon completion. Commented [j2]: To be linked upon completion.
  • 6. 2 Managing Sponsor Relationships Information on Sponsor Relationships can be found by going to Chapter X: Sponsor Relationships. Making a Person a Puppy Raiser In Reldog Lite Establishing a person as a Puppy Raiser 1. Once you have entered a person into Reldog Lite, you will need to tell Reldog Lite that the person is a Puppy Raiser for your organization. This only has to be done the first time they raise (or in instances where they may have raised a very long time ago and their raiser relationship was not imported to Reldog Lite when your school transitioned into using the system.) To do this: a. Select the person you wish to make a puppy raiser from the dropdown list in the Last Name field on the People Menu. b. Once you have selected the person you wish to make a raiser, click CREATE/EDIT PUPPY RAISER. This button will begin the raiser’s application process. c. Enter the raiser application details requested on the “Enter Raiser Details” form. i. Note: The system will automatically enter today’s date for “date received”, “Date status changed” and “Date want”. You can edit these fields as needed. d. To complete the application, you must click the APPLICATION DETAILS button located on the lower left-hand side of the first page of the application’ which takes you to the second page to the application. e. On the second page of the application, enter any information which may be pertinent to making a good puppy placement with the potential raiser. By clicking the boxes associated with specific considerations, your are making information available which will help your puppy raising services department to make stronger matches based on these considerations. f. The “Date Screened” field may be used to reflect either the day the application was screened by the school or you may enter the date that the application was reviewed by the area coordinator. This depends on your organization’s methods. In either case, the “Accepted” checkbox must be checked in order for the raiser’s application to be considered “active” and for the raiser to be matched with a puppy. Check this box once the applicant has completed the formal application process established by your school and only if they are ready for a puppy. Application Elements Repeat Raiser Select this box if the person you are entering an application for has been a raiser with your school in the past. Region Screening App Commented [j3]: To be linked upon completion.
  • 7. 3 This drop-down menu will allow you to select which region will be responsible for the screening of this particular applicant. The list of regions is managed by the Puppy Raising Services Management. Contact PR Management if a region you need is not currently listed. App. Status Use this drop-down to tell Reldog Lite the applicant’s current status. While this section can be updated to meet the needs of the department (contact your Reldog Lite Administrator if you require changes), your pre-set selections include: Breed Choice Use this drop-down to indicate the applicant’s preferred breed. If they are open to many different types of dogs, select “no pick” from the menu. Sex Choice Similar to Breed Choice. If the applicant has no preference, select “no pref” from the menu. Matching Criteria You may use this section to make notes that will be used to identify strong placements for puppies. This is an opportunity to provide a short, descriptive detail. Comment When Want Puppy This is also a text box which enables you to enter short notes about the raiser’s expectations about placement. Type of Raising Situation Since some people prefer to act exclusively as a finishing or starter home and some prefer to raise a dog from infancy to mature adult, this section gives you the opportunity to identify the type of placement available with this particular raiser: **A secondary raiser is a person living in another household who is also taking a large role in raising the puppy. Designating secondary raisers helps identify people who have special relationships with the dog. If you are entering this person as a “secondary raiser” it is important to also enter an application for the primary raiser. See “Chapter 1: The People Menu – Cross References” to learn more about managing co-raisers. Commented [j4]: To be linked upon completion.
  • 8. 4 Saving the Application If you need to return to Page 1 of the application, select the MAIN APPLICATION button located on the lower left-hand side of the form to return to the previous page. Click SAVE to save and return to the People Menu or CLOSE to save without closing. The Puppy Raising Menu The Puppy Raising Menu has been designed as an all-inclusive central location from which Puppy Raising services personnel can manage the Puppy Raising Program. Entering the Puppy Raising Menu To enter the Puppy Raising Menu, select PUPPY RAISING from the Main Menu. Exploring the Puppy Raising Menu in Reldog Lite There are 4 topic sections in the Puppy Raising Menu. Each topic is in a column. From left to right they are:  Placement  Relationships  Evaluations  Reports Managing a Puppy Raiser Relationship In the interest of providing you with a clear understanding of how to properly use the Reldog Lite Puppy Raising Menu, we will work through the lifecycle of a dog and be sure to touch on each function of Reldog so that you may use it to the fullest. Pre-Matching a Puppy to a Raiser Pre-matching a Puppy Raiser to a newborn puppy can begin the moment the Breeding/Whelping department has entered the puppy’s birth information. To pre-match a pup to a potential raiser: 1) Click MATCH/PLACEMENT MENU located on the lower left-hand side of the Puppy Raising Menu. 2) The Pup Matching and Placement Menu will open in preparation for you to create puppy partnerships. 3) Select the puppy you would like to match by clicking on the gray bar immediately to the left of the puppy. This will select the puppy’s record. 4) Once selected, click MATCH PUP TO RAISER then select the person you wish to pre-match the puppy with. Only those people who have an application on file with the school and who do not already have a puppy in their care will appear on your drop-down list. This will preliminarily match the puppy to the raiser, but will keep the puppy’s status in the system as “on campus”. 5) Remember that the Pre-Matching option in Reldog does not generate a permanent relationship in the system so it can be a valuable tool in helping you to organize your placements. Un-matching a Puppy To un-match a puppy that has been pre-matched with a raiser:
  • 9. 5 1) Click MATCH/PLACEMENT MENU located on the lower left-hand side of the Puppy Raising Menu. 2) The Pup Matching and Placement Menu will open. 3) Select the puppy you wish to un-match by clicking on the gray bar immediately to the left of the puppy. This will select the puppy’s record. 4) Once selected, click the UNMATCH PUP button located on the bottom of the screen. The system will ask you if you are sure that you want to un-match the pup from the current raiser, select “YES”. When you return to the Pup Matching and Placement Menu, the raisers name may still be listed in the “Person Matched” column, but if you exit this menu and come back, you will see that the raiser has been removed. Placing a Puppy with a Raiser Once you are confident that the raiser you matched the pup with is the same person you will be placing the pup with for raising, you can officially place the pup with the raiser in the following way: 1) Click MATCH/PLACEMENT MENU located on the lower left-hand side of the Puppy Raising Menu. 2) The Puppy Matching and Placement Menu will open. 3) Select the puppy you wish to place by clicking the gray bar immediately to the left of the puppy. This will select the puppy’s record. 4) Once selected, click the PLACE PUP WITH RAISER button located on the lower left-hand side of the screen. The Enter Placement form will open asking you for details about the placement. Enter as much information as you can at this time. 5) Once you have finished, click SAVE to save and close the placement form or CLOSE to return without saving. You will be returned to the Pup Matching and Placement Menu where you can repeat this process for additional puppies. Editing/Ending a Current Placement There is a difference between editing relationships and ending relationships in Reldog Lite. If a puppy has been placed with a raiser that, for any reason, did not work out, it is important to allow the system to track this type of information. In such cases, you will want to end a raiser’s relationship and re-place the puppy with a new raiser. Deleting a placement should be reserved for accidental placements of a puppy with the wrong person. Editing a Current Placement Note: If you are attempting to remove a puppy from a current raiser and placing them with a new raiser, please following instructions located under Editing/Ending a Current Placement – End Current Placement in this chapter. Clicking EDIT PLACEMENT DATA takes you to the Edit Placement form where you can change the Date Placed, Vet Assigned and other information related to the current placement. You would not change the person the pup is placed with using this form. End Current Placement To end a relationship between a raiser and a puppy so that the puppy may be available to re-place with another raiser: Commented [j5]: To be linked upon completion.
  • 10. 6 1) Click END CURRENT PLACEMENT located on the Puppy Raising Services Menu. 2) The End Placement form will open to allow you to end the current relationship, write notes about the end of the raiser’s relationship with the dog and to enter the location of the puppy, and the raiser’s new application status. Enter the information in this form as thoroughly as possible. a. Enter the ending date for this relationship b. Indicate if there is a special warning for this raiser and any appropriate comments about the removal. c. You may alter the “Provide Contact to Graduate” status – in most cases, you will want to “unclick” the selection so that this raiser is removed from the list (as they are no longer the official raiser for the dog). d. If applicable, in the field labeled “Not Eligible to Adopt if Released”, enter the date that the decision was made that this raiser was not eligible to adopt the dog. Add comments about why there were not eligible to adopt in the comments space. e. Indicate the Puppy Raiser’s application status selecting the status from the dropdown list. In most cases the raiser’s application is ended, but it is possible that they are ready for a different type of puppy or you may want to indicate that they are raisers you do not want to use in the future. f. Enter the disposition of the dog by selecting one of two options from the drop-down menu: either “returned to us” or “in field until placed”. If you select “Returned to Us”, the dog’s location will be change to “Training School”. If you select “In Field Until Placed” a form will open asking you to enter the Temporary Sitter who has assumed responsibility for the dog. 3) Once you have finished ending the relationship, you can now place the puppy with a new raiser using the steps outlined above: Placing a Puppy with a Raiser.
  • 11. 7 Deleting a Current Placement Should you identify a puppy where the wrong placement was accidentally entered in Reldog, use the DELETE PLACEMENT button located on the Puppy Raising Menu. A form will open which will entirely delete the placement record that was entered in error. Puppy Evaluations Reldog Lite has a few simple, validated tools available for your use. Before you begin utilizing any of the tools in Reldog Lite, it is important for your organization to determine ways in which these tools will be used, at what increments, who will be making the assessments and in what way. As with any measurement tool, it is imperative to set a standard by which all people are assessing if you want your data to be reliable and informational. Temperament Notes and Breed Watch In this form you can enter some brief temperament notes about pups on your program, and also some helpful information about pups that have not yet been neutered or spayed. Click ENTER/EDIT TEMPERAMENT NOTES + BREED WATCH to open the Enter Temp/BW form where you can enter: 1) Breed Watch – Check this box for pups you want to consider for possible future breeding stock. This can be a preliminary step, before changing their formal status to Breeder – Initial Eval. You can also use this check box as a flag that this dog should NOT be neutered or spayed until a decision has been made about their breeding potential. 2) Date Recall for Training - The likely date this dog will be brought back to your school for formal testing or training. 3) Temperament Notes – Brief notes about this pup 4) Date Recommended Early Release – The date this dog is likely to be released from your program 5) Date Recommended Early Neuter – If it is decided this dog is to be neutered/spayed prior to your usual procedures Temperament Evaluations A Temperament Evaluation (also known as a Behavior Checklist) is a standardized measurement tool intended for use by professional assessors/handlers only. This tool is NOT meant to be used by laymen and, as such, use care when determining who will be making these regular assessments. This tool will be most effective if the dog is assessed at regularly scheduled intervals. • 25. Chapter 4 – Breeding The Breeding Menu From the Breeding Menu, you will have the ability to do a number of things related to everyday breeding activities and colony management. We will go through each element of this menu and teach you how to use them. About the Breeding Menu Located in the top portion of the available window, the Menu is intended to give you a quick snapshot of your school’s breeding colony – both past and present. Filters The top portion of the screen is designed to give the user the option to view the school’s past and present colony at once or the user may utilize the filter functions located at the top of the screen to hone in on specifics of the breeding colony (such as specific breeds, only males/females, only active/retired dogs, etc.) The Dog Filter Use this filter if you want to narrow the list of breeders to dogs by a specific name. If you were to select, for example, “Fred” from this dropdown, the query would filter only dogs within the colony with the name “Fred”. If several dogs share the same name, they will all show, and the user will need to select the appropriate one by additional details (breed, date of birth, dam/sire) The Status Filter Use this filter if you want to narrow the list of breeders to dogs which are of a particular status such as “Active” or “Retired”. Enter the required information and click SAVE to save and return to the Heat Menu or CLOSE to return to the Heat Menu without saving. Heat Chart FROM CLOVER Heat End Sum Why summarize the heat? The ideal time to enter notes about the heat and mating is while the information is current. When a mating fails to produce a normal sized litter, review of the heat and insemination is critical to identify the cause. The most common cause of poor conception is breeding at the wrong time however there are numerous reasons:  Insemination at the wrong time  Insemination technique issues  Semen quality is poor due to semen handling or stud problem  Brood reproductive problems Clicking Heat Entry Done removes the brood from the Heat Menu There are two pages to this Heat Summary. The first page has information about the brood and the second page has mostly stud/semen/insemination information. On the second page, there is a check box titled Heat Entry Done. In order to complete the Heat Summary this box must be checked when you click on RETURN. Once saved, this heat will no longer appear on the Heat Menu when you open it. Editing the Heat Summary There are two paths to access the Heat Summary for edits: For broods that are pregnant, click MAIN MENU  BREEDING  LITTERS DUE MENU  select the brood  EDIT HEAT SUMMARY For all broods, MAIN MENU  BREEDING  Select the brood using the Dog drop-down list then  VIEW/EDIT REPROD DATA BROWSE HEATS  EDIT HEAT SUMMARY Page 2 Suggestions on filling out page 1 of the Heat Summary Click the check box Problem and fill in comments if there is something abnormal about the heat. • 34. Progesterone Rise Pattern- it is helpful to enter comments that the progesterone values agreed with the selected dates for inseminations. For natural matings LH days +3 and +5 or LH +4 and +6 are considered ideal. For frozen semen matings LH days +5 and +7 are considered idela. It is worth noting if the progesterone rise pattern is atypical such as a high baseline value or fast rise. Synchrony- For the textbook heat, the smear, discharge color, brood receptivity, vaginoscopy and progesterone values are all prime at around the same time. It is well known however that aspects of the heat controlled by estrogen may not be in synchrony with the actual ovulation timing. Discharge, Smear, Vaginoscopy- Note abnormalities in the discharge, smear or vaginoscopy. Microorganisms- Bacteria are normal inhabitants of the vaginal tract making routine vaginal cultures unnecessary. Note problems caused by microorganisms or the presence of Herpes virus or Brucellosis as diagnosed by a veterinarian as abnormal. Heat interval- Intervals less than 5 months are not likely to result in a conception. It is noteworthy if the heat interval is less than 5 months or substantially longer than the rest of your broods. Brood Age- A reduction in fertility may be noticed as broods age past 6 years old or have had multiple consecutive heats where they did not conceive a litter due to not breeding or no conception. Suggestions for filling out Page 2 Insemination Timing Drop-Down List and Insemination Procedure Drop Down List-- Helpful for analysis later on conception rates as compared with insemination timing. Insemination Timing- Check if timing was not ideal and add notes as to why. The 1st breeding’s progesterone value should be >6ng/ml. The 2nd breeding’s progesterone value should be >12 ng/ml. If the value is not that high, a third breeding must be considered. Insemination Procedure- Natural matings are the ideal insemination procedure for maximum conception rate.
  • 35. Insemination Volume Less than 5 cc (ml)- Larger volumes for AI matings are generally considered to be better than volumes less than 5 cc Semen Quality- Ideally the semen was assessed around the time of mating microscopically for count, motility and abnormals. Stud Health and Age- Systemic illnesses in the past 3 months may negatively impact semen.quality as well as problems in the reproductive tract. Semen quality and quantity diminishes in the older stud. Peak Breed Date- Date that you feel was the ideal date for insemination D=0 Date- the onset of diestrus when the vaginal smear reaches 50% parabasal cells with a possible white blood cell shower Brood Foster As long as the Brood was “PLACED W BRD KEEPER” in the Breeding Menu, this button will allow staff to easily access their contact information for any particular female in the Heat Menu. Click the LH=0 button, select the appropriate date and click SAVE to Return to the Heat Menu. RDL uses this date to calculate the Whelp date for the litter, as seen in the Litters Due Menu. M=0 Diestrus day=0 is the day when the vaginal cytology reaches 50% parabasal cells, and possibly the presence of a white blood cell “shower.” If you have this information, click the LH=0 button, select the appropriate date and click SAVE to Return to the Heat Menu.

Entering Individual Puppies Born The details of labor are an important part of the school understanding a Dam’s success in the breeding program. It is important to track details such as time between pups and whether any specific pups required assistance either while birthing or following their whelp. Reldog Lite Puppy Entry Form allows you to easily enter and store this information for future reference. 1. Whelpers should track the time it takes for a mom to push each puppy out. When the Dam begins to bear down to birth a pup, whelpers will enter the time into the “Labor Start” field. When the Dam has successfully birthed the puppy, whelpers will note the “Labor End” time and record it in the appropriate field. 2. By entering a “Pup Number”, Reldog Lite will automatically tattoo the puppy in the system. It’s important to note that while a pups number can be changed later, the tattoo number is not as easily changed. It’s best practice to enter the pups number and not attempt to alter it later. 3. Enter the other information requested in the Enter Pup Born Screen. To save and enter more puppies born, click SAVE. If you are done with entering puppies born, then click CLOSE. Reldog Lite will bring you to the Litter Care Menu upon closing. View/Edit Breeder Data By selecting a dog from the Breeding Menu and then clicking the VIEW/EDIT BREEDER DATA button, Reldog Lite will provide you with a snapshot of the breeder’s own data. Total Pups Mature- Number of progeny from the specified sire or dam that were whelped at the school or donated to the school that are >540 days old Colony member- yes/no field that is updated here. Used to sort dogs Generation Coefficient- calculated by RDL when button GENERATION COEFFICIENT in the Breeding Menu is pushed. This is most accurate when ancestors with genetic data is entered in RDL. Generation Coefficient is used when assessing if dogs are improving genetically through selection. Decreasing the generation interval increases the chance for genetic improvement when applying the principles of selection. Inbreeding Coefficient- (IC or COI) an estimate is calculated by RDL when button UPDATE INBREEDING in the Breeding Menu is pushed. COI expresses common heritage and specifically indicates the probability that the two alleles for any gene are identical by descent. Nbr- Total number of dog added by RDL of progeny that were evaluated for each of the traits listed ie Success, Skin, Hips, Elbows etc. % Score- Percent calculated by RDL of progeny that are Successful divided by the total. The percent health diseases is the number of progeny with a score code of 1 or 2 divided by the number evaluated for the trait. Scores range from 5 (a desirable quality) to 1 (very undesirable quality). You can change the score code in Utilities/UPDATE REF TABLES/VET DIAGNOSIS DETAILS EDIT. % EBV- Relative ranking of this dog compared to the current breeding dogs in your colony calculated by RDL based on the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for the trait. EBVs are created in genetic programs such as MTDFReml, MTGSam, IBay from data exported from RDL to these programs then the EBVs are imported back into RDL.
  • 41. % EBV All- Relative ranking this dog compared to all breeding dogs in your colony calculated by RDL based on the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for the trait. % EBV Kept- Relative ranking of this dog at the time the dog was selected as a breeder compared to the current breeding dogs in your colony calculated by RDL based on the Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) for the trait. Last Eye Exam- Last eye exam when the checkbox for Eye Exam is Yes when the diagnosis is entered. This designates the dog had a complete ophthalmologic exam preferably by a board certified ophthalmologist. Optigen Result, VWD, DNA, etc– We are changing this- there will be a subform/browse with genetically important lab results. BARBARA – I LOVE THIS FUNCTION, but there is a lot of ownership on multiple department’s team members to indicate that they are recommending the dog for release based on information they are entering in the system. At my school, for instance, the only area where the staff has that type of authority/ability is in the Medical Services Department and the only time they are entering it, at present, is for failed hips. • 49. Chapter 5 – The Dog Section About the Dog Menu The Dog Menu has been designed to give users a central location where they can find pieces of information about a dog’s life. While the dog’s lifespan should be managed in the appropriate modules, the Dog Menu can give users a brief snapshot of the dog over the course of the dog’s lifetime. Edit Dog Data The EDIT DOG DATA button gives users the opportunity to change key characteristics of a dog at your school. Whether this button functions or not for any individual user is managed by the Reldog System Administrator and most users will not have the authorization to edit a dog’s data in this form. The EDIT DOG DATA button should only be used by key personnel within an organization to make adjustments to data which may have been incorrectly entered through appropriate modules. Examples include a dog’s name, tattoo number or microchip number. If you are among the few users with permission to use this form: 1) Select the dog you wish to adjust information on from the dropdown list located in the upper left-hand corner of the Dog Menu. 2) Click EDIT DOG DATA 3) To edit a dog’s name (spelling or name change): a. Once you have found the name you want, select the name by double clicking it from the list on the left-hand side. This will highlight the name. e. Click DONE to save the change. 4) Changes to many of the other fields can be accomplished by simply editing the field. Once changes have been made, select SAVE_CLOSE to return to the Dog Menu. Changing a Dog’s Status A dog’s status should be properly managed through the appropriate module. For instance, a puppy’s entrance into the puppy program or its transition from “active puppy in the program” to “IFT” is managed through the Puppy Raising section (See Chapter X: Puppy Raising for more information). A dog’s graduation from “IFT” to “Active Graduate” is managed in the Client Services section (See Chapter X: Client Services for more information. And, lastly, a dog’s retirement or release from the any program may be managed from the module associated with the dog’s current lifecycle status. The CHANGE STATUS button located in the Dog Menu should only be used by key personnel to either correct a status change error or to assist with special circumstances where the dog may have reentered the program.
