They challenge the
stereotype of Welsh as they
aren’t always outside, they
tend to be in clubs and bars.
They also fit the stereotype as
they make a lot of jokes
about sheep. For example
their poster for the TV show
shows that they fit the
stereotype as they are in the
countryside and have sheep
around then, however they
all appear to be dressed up.
Scottish

Location/setting – Scotland
Props – school equipement
Costume – Normal school wear,
hoodies
Makeup – natural
Class – Middle class/lower
They challenge the as they don’t look any different
however you can tell that they are Scottish through
their dialogue as they have a Scottish accent. They
are normal as in that they wear normal school
clothes. The head teacher character has a very
strong Scottish accent (Christine Mulgrew). Christine
also follows the stereotype as she is an alcoholic.
Ireland
Dialogue/Dialect – Irish accent
Location/setting – Chester
Costume – Casual clothing
Makeup – Natural
Class – Middle/lower class
The character from Hollyoaks follows the typical
stereotype as an Irish person as he plays a
alcoholic. However the TV drama is set in Chester.
Some of the typical stereotypes of an Irish person
would be that their name is Paddy, they are
associated with potatoes and they constantly drink.
London
Dialogue/Dialect – London accent
Location/setting –East London
Costume – Casual everyday
Makeup – Range of heavy makeup
Class – Middle/lower
The characters reinforce the stereotype of a Londoner. They both
have a typical London accent. The character Mick Carter follows the
stereotype as he has a typical ‘geezer’ look. The character Kat Moon
also reinforces the stereotype as she follows that east Londoners are
‘cheap', 'tacky’ and rough. The character Kat Moon is seen as a
typical east Londoner as she has a low cut top on and heavy makeup
which is seen to make her look cheap.
