Sciennes Think Global, Act Local Assembly 2.2.18
On Friday 2nd February we were delighted to welcome a delegation of eight teachers and staff from Laugarnesskóli Primary School in Reykjavik. Laugarnesskóli is the first Icelandic school to gain a Silver Unicef Rights Respecting Schools Award and we welcomed the opportunity to share practice and ideas. After a tour of the school and classrooms, the Headteacher very kindly spoke at Assembly and gifted a beautiful book about Iceland for our Library. We are really looking forward to establishing a new International partnership between our schools.
As global citizens, pupils were encourage to participate in this year's #showthelove climate action campaign, by noticing and recording evidence of climate change over the next few weeks.
We concluded Week Three of our City of Edinburgh 'Be Resilient' Health and Wellbeing topic 'Have a Goal' by sharing pupil examples of goals they have recently set as a family.

Summer Reading 2008

Sciennes Send a Cow P3 Harvest Appeal 29.9.17
On Friday 29th September 2017 at Assembly, a group of P3 pupils joined Send A Cow Ambassador, Robert Stephens, in presenting how they are taking action as global citizens in support of four of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Our three Primary Three classes are again leading the whole school Harvest Appeal with their Class Teachers and DHT Ms Anstruther, which this year is in support of the Send a Cow charity.
Each child in P3 is producing hand drawn collection envelopes which will be distributed to each of our families. If all our families contribute £1 we will reach a goal of £640 and be able to gift a cow to a family in Africa. Primary Three pupils are taking on different young workforce lead roles for their appeal campaign, such as Communications, Publicity and Finance.
Send a Cow Ambassador, Robert Stephens, spoke with passion and eloquence to explain to the children how the charity works with families in Africa to provide training in not only animal husbandry but also in sanitation, irrigation and keyhole farming. He relayed the story of Jennifer whom he had visited in Uganda and saw first hand the huge difference the project had made to her life and that of her family. Jennifer was able not only to provide milk and vegetables for her own family, but could sell surplus at market to pay for tools, medicine and schooling. Perhaps most telling was Robert's final slide which showed that Jennifer had reached such a self-sufficient stage that she was able to purchase an ornamental vase, merely because she 'liked it.'
Primary Three invited everyone to help Make A Difference by supporting their appeal with donations in the envelopes and also contributing to their planned bake sale on Friday 13th October. We wish them great success in their endeavours and thank Robert for his gracious time supporting the children.

Inc.is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that offers camping retreats to families who have a family member with developmental disabilities, living at home with their parents or caregivers. Respite, Recreation, and Rejuvenation are the three ‘R’s we strive to achieve. Our families enjoy a weekend camping resort experience in a same family friendly, atmosphere. Wellness G.I.F.T.S. Inc. provides a catered breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the families throughout the retreat. In the welcome bag that we give to families upon arriving are T-shirts that help our volunteers and staff (who also wear specific shirts) distinguish our campers from Hickory Hill Family Camping Resort campers.
Unlike many other camp programs, whose focus is primarily on the family member with a disability, Wellness G.I.F.T.S. Inc. focuses on the family unit. The idea is to take a holistic approach to strengthen families by offering education, respite, and networking opportunities. The connections and friends made during the family’s stay have a lasting positive influence when the family returns home. We understand that stronger families create stronger communities.

- 4. Valentines day In valentines day we are permitted to wear a pink or a red dress but we have to fetch 20 Baht. And we have to bring as many 1,2,5 or 10 baht coins and make a big circle. All the money we raise from the mufti and the coins will go to the charity
- 6. Blind Folded running. A marathon champion came to our school. The marathon runner was blind so he always ran with his best friend. Later we had a chance to know how hard it is to run with no eyes only with a friend guidance. We tied a piece of cloth around are eyes so we cant see. A rope was tied between my hand and my friends hand. Then we had to run!. It was very interesting but very hard. This was one of the best adventures we ever had in our lives so far.
- 7. Environment Day In environment day we had planted some seeds around our enormous field. Every class planted a tree. We had a lot of fun. Every single person had planted a tree. All the plants were grown within a month.
- 8. Halloween It sure was a spooky and scary day! We had lots of activities such as pin the tail on the cat or guess how many candies are in the jar. We also had to wear Halloween costumes.
- 10. Healthy living week Healthy living week is all about being healthy. Healthy living week isn’t just being healthy, we also raised money! We raised money by holding smoothie and fruit sale. We also played apple bobbing and riding scooters. It was a great fun! Oh! We almost forgot the most important person which is Freddie fit! He helpes us do wake and shake in the morning!
- 11. H.M King Bhumibol Adulyadej birthday celebration In King’s birthday celebration, we sang King’s anthem and Thailand’s anthem. King’s birthday is also Father’s day because Thai people respect their King as their father. We celebrated the King’s birthday and we had 4 winners for the fathers day card.
