Tudor House primary school is my school. It is a school just for boys. We get to learn and play. It is really fun. Watch and learn why we love going to Tudor House.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Welcome to your school
What is Tudor Enrich Your Share Your
House? Learning Adventure
Every step you make here is an adventure for life
3. Welcome to my school –
Tudor House
Let me show you around our school.
We do lots of things.
We are a boys’ school. We arrive at
school at 8:15am. We then get
changed out of our Full Blues – this is
the formal school uniform.
I like my cap – it has a Tudor rose on it.
4. We get help from lots of
people
Every morning our Day Boys arrive in
Full Blues, and get changed into half-
blues for the day
(Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri)
Older boys often help our younger
boys.
5. We all line up and feel
proud
When we line up for Flag Parade, every
day has a theme, e.g.
Monday is Manners Monday
Tuesday is Tote Tray Tuesday
Wednesday is Challenge Day
Friday is Friendship Friday – and all
plan to do something kind to someone
without them knowing.
6. We all get ready to raise
the flag
Our teachers help us to be ready. We
check our shoes, socks, make sure our
shirts are tucked in, take off our hats
and stand at ease.
We then come to attention as the flag
is raised – and we stay focused on the
flag, watching it get raised.
7. Flag parade allows us to
think
We all get to be still and we all feel a
part of something special. It makes us
feel lucky.
After the flag is raised we all say good
morning to our teachers.
We then line up for class – and our
teachers greet us by name, and shake
our hands, welcoming us into the
room for a new day of learning.
8. We go into class for
learning
First up is our roll call – and then we
organise ourselves for the day ahead.
Every teacher writes on the board
what will happen for the day – so we
know what to expect.
We write up homework in our diaries
and show any notes to the teacher.
Then we start our academic studies –
with a block of English and then a
block of Maths.
We learn with computers and pen and
paper. All boys learn differently. Our
teachers know that.
11. Not all lessons are in the
classroom
We know boys like to move and use
their hands.
We also know that sometimes the best
learning happens outside of the
classroom.
We have so much space, it is easy to
find a grassy area to lie down and
learn with the sun on your back.
13. We have to learn how to
speak in public
Every year we have speaking
competitions and
These opportunities teach us to speak
properly and confidently in front of an
audience.
They are also fun.
We have Public Speaking, Poetry
Recital, Red Cross Concert, weekly
assemblies, bible readings in Chapel,
Carol Service, and debating
competitions to name a few.
We talk lots!
15. Woodwork is a really fun
thing we do at Tudor
Every class gets to do woodwork every
week for an hour-and-a-half.
These lessons are when we make –
using tools.
We also learn safety.
In Year Six, we get to build our own
billy cart – and then we race them in
our Billy Cart Day!
17. We all get to enjoy
specialist art lessons
All classes have over an hour-and-a-
half of art each week with a specialist
art teacher.
Our teacher even sells her art.
We like art because it lets us do
creative things and is messy and fun.
Some of our art we make together as a
team. This art is then placed around
the school and makes us feel like real
artists.
19. We enjoy learning music
We can choose an instrument to play
and we can have private lessons.
We also have music lessons as a class
every week, too.
Every assembly, we have boys play for
us. It is great hearing how good they
are getting. But it all comes from
practice!
Our Director of Music is a world
famous organist. He plays in our
chapel services.
21. With our grounds,
Outdoor Education is vital
Our school is really a farm. We have
160 acres – so that is a lot.
If you ask a Tudor boy what is different
about our school – he will say
Freedom.
We have so much space.
We learn all about gardening, and
growing good vegetables.
23. Freedom on the farm
We have lots of animals to look after
as well.
We have cows, sheep, chickens (we
love eating the eggs), even pigs!
Some of us have to feed GG – our baby
poddy-calf.
There a lot of wildlife…
lizards, snakes, possums, wombats and
kangaroos!
24. We have lots of
adventures
Tudor House lets us do things other
schools don’t. We get to be boys and
explore.
Every Friday during school time we go
out and learn how to cook, how to
camp, how to build bases.
These lessons are all part of Kahiba –
and we all love this the best!
25. All the boys love the camping on Friday after lunch
27. And we get to play
Our teachers think boys should run
around, ride bikes and skateboards.
They think we need to be outside and
blow off some steam – they say.
I think this is a good idea. It makes us
more settled in class when we go back
in to learn from books and the board.
31. Fishing with Friends
We get to do things other kids cannot
do at school. Because we are a
boarding school, we have lots of fun
with mates.
Lately, we have been catching fish and
yabbies in our dam.
Mr Stewart, our headmaster, was the
first to catch a fish this year. It wasn’t
very big. He was still very happy.
41. But the best by far is our
Billy Cart Derby Day!
It takes a long time to build a billy cart.
Our school lets dads come in to have
lessons in our workshop.
We get our billy carts and they have to
be passed by Mr Burgoyne. Then we
can race them.
We have two races: down hill (past the
headmaster’s house) and around the
circuit. We have mates push us.
I go really fast.
43. One of my favourite days
is Grandparents’ Day
We have granddads and grandmas join
us for the day. They come to our
classrooms and they help us to learn.
They find our computers funny.
They have lunch with us and then we
go and fly kites. Mum and Dad are
allowed to join us – some sneak in
early so they can have lunch.
We go to a paddock and it is awesome.
There are boys running everywhere
with kites and strings!!
45. We get to eat together
every day
At lunchtime we all sit down to eat in
our special dining room.
Teachers tell us we should have good
manners, so we learn how to eat
properly.
There is always lots of yummy food –
including pudding!
When the gong goes you have to be
silent and listen.
48. Some boys get to sleep
over at our school
Tudor House is also a boarding school.
The boys love it.
They get to play with friends and it is
really special. Sometimes they have
mud fights!
They have trips away and have their
own dorms.
All boys wish they could board – it is
really good fun.
50. And now your parents can
stay over, too!
We now have Meyer House, which is
where mums and dads can come and
stay.
So if you are homesick – or if your
parents are missing you – they can
come down and stay.
It is all about sharing and caring as a
community.
Tudor House is a special place for
everyone.
