The document is a reflective diary of a student's four-week process of developing a mock travel app for York. In week one, the student created prototypes of a map, traffic updates, and parking locations. Some original ideas like a questionnaire were scrapped due to time constraints. In week two, the student replaced the questionnaire with a trail generator based on interests. In week three, the student added details to the traffic and parking sections. In week four, the student tested the app for bugs and gathered feedback by sending a screen recording to friends.

1. REFLECTIVE DIARY
Week One:
Using the information in my planning pro forma, I successfully started the production of this project.
I’ve added a map of York with location markers and some prototype hypothetical traffic updates &
parking spaces which I plan on improving later.
I’ve managed to use as many resources designed by me as possible – a logo, a map edited by me,
and Figma UI built from scratch. Most of the icons used were found online, but I’d rather use pre-
existing ones than create my own to save time since we only have four weeks of production.
However, I’ve already had to scrap some of the original ideas I planned on using - mainly the
questionnaire at the start of the mockup since it would take too many alternative slides to work
efficiently. Instead, I plan on creating a different function that serves a similar role.
I’ve also scrapped the music station idea since Figma prototypes can’t play sound (unfortunate, but
it doesn’t affect the central trail part of the app).
Week Two:
Throughout the second week of production, I’ve replaced the original questionnaire idea with a fake
trail generator based on different interests (e.g., food & drink, clubs, etc.) Each interest button
redirects the app to a list of three real locations in York centred around that specific theme – “Food
& Drink” lists three local restaurants, “Music” lists three different vinyl stores and more.
I plan to spend next week focusing on the map sections, potentially adding location markers which
have pop-up menus when tapped on to show relevant information (e.g., waiting times, a “Get
Directions” button, etc.)
Week Three:
I've spent the third week of production adding more details to the traffic updates & parking spaces
section with hypothetical events such as roadblocks and police alerts inspired by Waze (their logo is
included as a watermark on the map since they would power it if the app was real). I've also added
real parking spaces throughout York. However, you can only tap one of them to show a pop-up
menu at the bottom that lists relevant info such as opening times, the price of parking and a "Get
Directions" button (this doesn't work as it's only there for show).
Week Four:
For the final week of production, I tested the app several times to find any potential bugs or other
faults, such as typos and misplaced UI buttons. Once everything was tested and was ready to be
submitted, I screen-recorded the app being used since the prototype is unreliable for an examiner to
use. I’ve also sent the video to some friends to gather feedback for my evaluation.
