  3. 3. Introduction:Using computer technology in the developing world,are becoming increasingly common. Computers areused in all areas of our lives with these developments.In many control applications performed withcomputers, the computers’ communication with theexternal environment is very important.• Data acquisition (DAQ) is the process of measuringan electrical or physical phenomenon such as voltage,current, temperature, pressure, or sound with acomputer.• Data acquisition cards are needed in computer aidedanalysis or control applications.• A typical commercial DAQ card contains ADC andDAC that allows input and output of analog and digitalsignals in addition to digital input/output channels.

  6. 6. Methods:In design, PIC16F877A, a microcontroller ofMicrochip company, is used to providecommunication between computer and dataacquisition card and to control ports. Commands,received from computer, are analyzed andresponded continuously in a loop. If microcontrollerreceives a command, firstly analyses that and thenperforms the request.SOFTWARE USED: • µVision Keil (v4): µVision Keil (version 4) provides IDE for 8051 programming & is very easy to use. When starting a new project, simply select the microcontroller you use from the Device Database and the µVision IDE sets all Compiler, Assembler, Linker, and Memory options. It’s device database is large which supports many ICs of the 8051 family. A HEX file can be created with the help of Keil which is required for burning onto chip. It has a powerful debugging tool which detects most of the errors in the program.
