Responsible: If someone is
responsible, that person can be
trusted to do a job on his or her
own. Example:
I need to be responsible in
doing my homework.
3. Dart: An animal that darted moved suddenly and
quickly in a particular direction. Example:
•The rabbit wandered into the yard but when it
saw the cat it darted into the woods.
Jostle: If the people in a crowd push or
knock against you, they are jostling you.
•The runners were jostling for positions
before the race.
4. Swerve: If a car swerved, it turned suddenly to
avoid hitting something. Example:
•The cars swerved to avoid hitting the deer that
had suddenly jumped across the road.
Attentive: If someone is attentive, that
person is carefully listening to or watching
something. Example:
•The students were attentive as they watch
the video about the food chain.
5. Pounced: A person or animal that pounced on
something jumped on it eagerly to take it.
Example:
•When Mario drop the toy mouse the cat
pounced on it.
Contradict: Contradicting someone is saying
that what the person has said is wrong.
Example:
•Lupita was contradicting Marisa s statement
about the advantages of going to a private
school
