Rani Laxmi Bai Jayanti is celebrated on November 19th each year to honor Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi. She was a leader during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the British East India Company. As a young girl, she was trained in martial arts. She later became queen of Jhansi but was widowed. When the British annexed Jhansi under the Doctrine of Lapse, she refused to hand over the kingdom. She organized troops to fight against the British and played a key role in the rebellion before being killed in battle at the age of 22 while fighting bravely dressed as a man.
