knowledge, changes in treatment and drug therapy are required. Our Rainbow Hospital is a
Hospital which provides not only hope, heal, health and happiness but it is an academic
hospital as well. Programmes of training, teaching, CME's, workshops and updates are the day
to day routine of this hospital. These programmes provide information, which are in accord
with the standards accepted in medical science from time to time internationally which in
turn proves fruitful for the treatment of patients.
The jewels of this hospital are significantly the departments of IVF, neurosurgery,
orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology and obstetrics, gastroenterology, gastric surgery,
general surgery and dialysis units and cardiac centre etc.
`I shall be failing in my duties if I do not appreciate our new cardiac unit in association
with Dr. Praveen Chandra (an eminent interventional cardiologist awarded a national Padma
Shri award) which is a part and parcel of Rainbow Hospitals.
The centre of IVF is a land mark not only in Agra region but in the country and abroad also.

The History of Malhotra Nursing & Maternity
Home (P) Ltd. dates back to preindependence
era when Rai Bahadur Dr. S.N. Malhotra was
recognized bythe British Empire forhumanity.
Dr. Malhotra retired as Principal Medical &
Health Officer (Rajasthan).One of the first
Indian Doctors to have a qualification of M.D.
and M.S. from Lahore Medical College. He was
thenjoinedbyhissonanddaughter-in-law,R.M.
Malhotra and Prabha Malhotra towards the
dedicated efforts of mankind. Starting their
efforts in 1957 from Bharatpur (Raj.), the famliy
shifted to Agra (U.P.) in 1959, there by
establishing the first Private Nursing Home of
thestate.
The Hospital catered to the need of patients of
all kinds for 15 years. It was then in 1975, when
the Hospital finally decided to move to
specialized services and they opted one of the
most neglected and the most important issue
of life i.e. maternal and child care. Then
emerged the Malhotra Nursing and Maternity
Home,asitstandstoday.
In 1977, continuing their efforts, the hospital
started the use of Laparoscopy and in 1982 the
first Linear Ultrasound Unit of the state was
establishedbyDr.PrabhaMalhotra.
The house was then joined by their two young,
energetic and enthusiastic family members
Narendra and Jaideep (Son and Daughter-in-
lawofR.M.andPrabhaMalhotra),whogavethe
hospital Transvaginal Ultrasound & Colour
Doppler Ultrasound, and as they joined.
Continuing the spirit of expansion and service,
the Hospital started one of the latest available
techniqueofoperationi.e.operativeEndoscopy
in1995.
One ofthe mostimportantachievementofthe
housewas the establishmentofTestTube Baby
CentreinAgra,in1997,andfirstbabyofU.P.State
by this technique was born on 1st August, 1998.
Till March 2010 over 916 babies were born by
IVF,ICSI, TESA techniqueattheAgra centre.

Building such an institution and taking it to
such height cannot be a one man show. It
certainly is a team effort and the house is
fortunate enough and feels proud to take the
help and assistance provided by specialists

Achievements
Rainbow hospital is home to the best Urology
department in Western UP and has been
running its Endourology, Uro-oncology,
Reconstructive Urology, Minimally Invasive
Urology and General Surgery sections under
theableguidanceofProfDrMSAgrawal,whois
a renowned national &International faculty in
Urology.
Last year, we performed 1118 surgeries in our
departmentwhichisarecordtilldate.
T h e d e p a r t m e n t h a s a l l t h e l a t e s t
armamentarium required for doing all the
advanced work. We have a 100 watt Holmium
laser which is used for all endourological work
in stone disease and prostate. We have
Plasmakinetic Bipolar technology for use in
prostatic diseaseswhich is onlyavailable in our
hospital in this part of the state. Patients from
all over UP are referred to us for the same. We
have state ofthe artendoscopes fordoing Mini
PCNL, ultra mini PCNL, micro PCNL for the
treatmentofrenalstonedisease.
Dr M S Agrawal is a pioneer in mini PCNL
technology and is invited all over the world to
demonstrate his technique of mini PCNL. Last
yearhehadoperativeworkshopsinChina,Japan
and Thailand to demonstrate this procedure.
Above all, he was a guest faculty to operate and
demonstrate this procedure at Annual Meeting
ofAmericanUrologyAssociationatSanDiegovia
LIVEstreamingfromMPUH,nadiad.Hehasbeen
demonstrating this technique all over India at
variousconferencesandworkshops.
In general surgery, we have been doing all
regular cases including Laparoscopic CBD
exploration, Laparoscopic Hernioplasty. We
have expanded our spectrum in laparoscopic
urology as well and have been doing lap
nephrectomy, lap orchiopexy and lap
ureterolithotomies.
We h ave b e e n d o i n g m i c ro s u r g i c a l
varicocelectomies,microsurgical avfistulas for
hemodialysis and microsurgical vaso-
vasostomies.
Now we are having foreign urologists on a
regular basis, who are coming to learn Mini
PCNL from Dr M S Agrawal. Last year Dr James
GlendinningfromLiverpool,UKandDrNimalan
AfromLondon,UKvisitedforthesame.Wehave
started a regular Mini PCNL training program
at rainbow and will have Indian urologists
visitingourcenterforthesameallyeararound.
We have been very active in organizing
workshops and conferences as well. Last year
we conducted three workshops, two on mini
PCNL and RIRS and one for Plasmakinetic
TUR/TUEB. We have recently been actively
involved in organizing NZUSICON 2016 at Hotel
ITC Mughal. It was quoted as the most
successful North zone urological conference of
all time with Dr M S Agrawal being the
organizingchairman.

InWard Patients: The Department of
Dietetics provides normal, modified and
therapeutic diets to about 110 critical care,
general and private ward patients. A careful
dietary history of each admitted patients is
taken, their blood parameters are reviewed to
assess his/her nutritional status and diet is
provided as per the recommendations of
the treating doctor. The dietary intervention
s done taking into consideration the disease
condition, social background and nutritional
status of the patients. The patients are
visited and assessed on daily basis by the
dietician and the diets are modified in
accordancetotheprogressofthepatients.
For critically ill patients, the nutritional status
is assessed on a daily basis and special tube
feeds are indigenously prepared for each
patient and closely monitored on daily basis in
coordination with the medical team. These
special tailor-made feeds help the patient in
recovery from the critical illness maintaining
his nutritional statuswhich plays avital role in
thecurativeandrecoveryphaseofthepatient.
