World War One ( Wwi )
World War One (WWI) is an important event in history and impacted history in a great way for
four years during 1914 to 1918. It is known as the Great War because the French, British, and
Germans did not know there would be another world war in history. The events occurring
through August and July of 1914 had catalysts to help the war build up its stockpile. The war
was a conflict between the Allied Powers (France, Russia, Britain, Italy and the United States),
and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire). The main causes
of WWI was the rise in nationalism, which was very strong in Germany becoming a leading
factor, economic imperialism, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 who
was heir to the Austro Hungarian throne. In Germany, William II, the King of Prussia and
emperor of Germany, was not a good leader, but he exhibited aggressiveness. The rise of German
nationalism was exerting influence to the state during his ruling. During his reign, the Farmer s
League was organized in the 1890s, and they influenced farmers and the rural masses to mobilize
against the Jews (they were jealous of the Jews and hated them due to racism and because they
were successful with business enterprises). Anti Semitism was an idea created by Adolf Hitler,
which his ideas caused a lot of racism and conflict. The Navy league and Pan German League laid
a foundation for German nationalism for WWI. By 1914, Germany was the strongest and highest

Essay On The Untold Story Of Plymouth Plantation
The Untold Story of Plymouth Plantation The Puritan s voyage to the New World in 1620 is one
of the most well known pilgrimages throughout history. However, there are two different accounts
of the events to be discussed: one by William Bradford himself and another in the form of a
documentary. Bradford was one of the 102 people to voyage across the Atlantic in order to start the
Plymouth colonyin Cape Cod. He would later become a very influential leader. His version of the
events, entitled Of Plymouth Plantation, is his first hand account of his voyage and the settlement
of Plymouth. Bradford wrote his chronicle in plain style, a type of writing that is simplistic and
very straightforward. History Channel s A Desperate Crossing: The Untold Story of the
Mayflower, shows the events from an outside point of view. Bradford s use of plain style in Of
Plymouth Plantation, while historically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gives the history of the local native tribes, which greatly impacted the Pilgrim s survival in the
New World. It also goes into detail on the people who died, mentioning those who Bradford
chose to skip over, such as the ship hand that was the first of them to die on the voyage over.
Bradford says the following of his death, But it pleased God before they came half seas over, to
smite this young man with a grievous disease, of which he died in a desperate manner, and so
was himself the first that was thrown overboard. (Bradford 6). Here, he is stating that God chose
for him to die because he cursed at passengers and was overall an unholy person who, in
Bradford s mind, deserved to die. In modern times, we know that all of the settlers who died met
their ends from diseases and hypothermia during the truly horrible winter from 1609 10 or, like
the ship hand, died from disease. But aside from mentioning scurvy and the harsh winter, Bradford
cites only God as the source of the misery in

Cordoba Research Paper
The Great Mosque of Cordoda In Spain, Cordoba was the original center of Muslim culture once
the Umayyads of Spain assumed their title as caliphs and Cordoba became their capital. The Great
Mosque of Cordoba is a hypostyle mosque that may be considered as the purest of all Arabic
architecture and even though the construction of this Mosque is based on a converted Visigoth
church (Burckhardt and Michaud. 132). As other early mosque, the architects reused elements, such
as columns of pre Islamic building to construct the Mosque of Cordoba. However, its renovations
transformed it into one of the important monuments of medieval architecture (. (Ettinghausen,

Sayre. 445). to create the required space of a mosque known as the hypostyle space or many
columns covered area, the architects superimposed another set of columns on top of the existing
ones in the building, creating two tiers of arches, with the used of alteration of stone and red
brick voussoirs; this used for two types of materials was for decorative and functional purposes
since the architectures combined the flexibility of brick with the strength of stone, at the same
time creating a great decorative effect for the eyes. (M. Sayre. 447). Later on, in 833 52, the
mosque was expanded by widening the hall by two naves and lengthening it by eight bays. In 961

twelve more bays. Furthermore, the architects started to build the main dome or the present

which direction people should pray (Sayre. 445). This mirhab

Analysis Of Feet First Into Hell
Feet first into hell , one of the many sayings that describe a battle that has an unpredictable
outcome. The screams of men bleeding from gunshot wounds and the vicious trigger happy
soldiers firing away their rifles at the Japanese soldiers. The sound of airplanes fighting in the sky
and missiles whistling their way down on the island blowing up multiple areas. The heart racing,
horrified, and nervous soldiers fought for their country. Soldiers having only the thought of, Am I
going to make it home? . Multiple American soldiers fighting this battle that would end the
Japanese military from further advancing their support with Axis power. Eventually coming to an
end, and the American flag being raised high. Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, the historical
photograph taken on February 23, 1945 by Joe Rosenthal located on Iwo Jima island, a distance
away from Japan. As the island got quieter by the minute and the count of live Japanese soldiers
slowly decreased, six brave soldiers ran and climbed the highest point of Iwo Jima. Their
objective now? Securely raise the American flag to honor America and the victory over the
defeat of Japan. Throughout all the rubble and debris of the destroyed buildings and weaponry,
the flag of America is being raised. The background of this photo sets the mood in a subtle way.
What is viewable is only the sky with partially visible clouds and hills that travel distances on this
island. The mood gives a peaceful feeling as there is no visible

Validity Trustworthiness Rofle
In Validity, Trustworthiness, and Rigor, Rofle exemplifies how to analyze qualitative data in
regards to science reports. Rofle describes that the guidelines for analyzing the credibility and
information for qualitative research is not clear. Three positions have been made to induce how
qualitative data should be analyzed: they want qualitative researchto be evaluated as quantitative
research, a opposed set of rules should be present, and there should be standard already
predetermined. Rofle presumes to analyze the quality of qualitative researcheach individual

Analysis of Bertrand RussellВґs The Problems of Philosphy...
06455401
1)
The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some
conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in
our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not.
Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However,
our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives
an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is
inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different
answers. Then if you take that chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single,
specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real
objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain
noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we
can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a
chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take
this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution
of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner.
However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot
truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside
influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not
so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the
characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the question, if our senses
can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how can we believe it

Self Driving Vehicles
In about a decade, self driving cars have transformed from a distant, futuristic dream to a close
certainty. As people begin to acclimate to the idea of self driving cars, developers, such as Google,
Tesla, Audi, and Nissan race to create the best, road ready, consumer ready vehicles that are able to
navigate our streets independently.
While I believe will soon be widely adopted by the young and old alike, the reality is these cars
will be more expensive and may be difficult for your average joe to afford. Although the personal
ownership of self driving vehicles will undeniably occur, fleets of driverless vehicles run through
companies like Uber, Lyft, Google, and many more, will be the compelling force behind the
driverless revolution that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies have shown some consumers are cautious of handing over control to a computer, however
studies have also shown they are quick to overcome these fears when that have even a brief,
positive experience with the technology. With developer companies investing and pushing for this
technology, it is simply a matter of time before everyone and their neighbor is familiar and
comfortable in driverless vehicles.
The noticeable advantage of self driving cars is that they allow for a shared vehicle ownership
model, whether ownership is shared between companies, cities, or individuals. Although cars are
one of the most expensive things a family might own, 96% of the time, they stand idle in
driveways, parking lots, and garages. By developing a network of self driving cars, fewer will be
needed to transport the same amount of people if they can drive themselves around to help
someone run errands while the car would typically be parked while someone was at work, school,

Compare And Contrast Icd And Standard Internationa Medical...
According to the American College of Medical Quality, medical necessity is defined as accepted
health care services and supplies provided by health care entities, appropriate to the evaluation
and treatment of a disease, condition, illness or injury and consistent with the applicable standard
of care. This ensures that doctors conduct the proper and necessary actions to ensure the safety
and care of a patient. Besides doing the right thing, doctors are held accountable for the welfare a
proper decisions of care for their patients. For medical necessity, a doctor must acknowledge that
the care required for any treatment is necessary for the health of the patient. Above all, medical

Proper medical coding is important, from ensuring accurate payment for physicians to creating

procedures administered and helping expedite the payment of services for physicians, medical
codes also serve the purpose of comparing projects for research and planning for under served
health care areas, aiding in administrative functions, as well as identifying symptoms that have
medical necessity and referenced by other physicians or specialists. As an example, for a general
urinalysis, the coder must input the code of 81000 for male or female patients. The mistake that
could be made is if the coder input 81025 for a specific urinalysis for a pregnancy test. This event
could happen if the diagnosis was reversed and a female expecting a pregnancy urinalysis gets a

In our view, sensors are the “magic” of the IoT. The...
In our view, sensors are the magic of the IoT. The sensor market is enormous, with Analog Devices
estimating it to approach $100 billion annually, much of which is not related to semiconductors at
all. The sensor market applicable to semiconductor vendors includes micro electromechanical
systems (MEMS) based sensors, optical sensors, ambient light sensors, gesture sensors, proximity
sensors, touch sensors, fingerprint sensors and more. These chips effectively detect changes in the
environment, creating the information that is ultimately transmitted via a wireless chip and
interpreted through application software to create an IoT solution. Sensors or sensornetworks (Smart

The major application for automotive MEMS is for sensing when to deploy airbags. In this
market MEMS sensors are replacing sensors such as fiber optic gyroscopes and ring laser
gyroscopes. Additional applications are in electronics stability control, tire pressure measurement
and, going forward, using the sensor to track location while in a structure such as a parking garage
where a GPS signal cannot reach.
Of course air deployment is not really something that can be categorized as part of the Internet
of Things. However, the connected car seems to be a reality that is approaching rapidly. Once
the car is connected to the Internet via one of the wireless technologies mentioned here or one
that is coming specifically for automobiles, and software like iOS or Android gets installed, we
expect the car to see a significant increase in the use of the sensor information. For example, the
MEMS sensor could indicate that a tire is flat and then with location based services, a nearby
garage could be suggested. Similarly, the adoption of MEMS into the car to determine position
while satellites cannot reach the GPS can also be used to tie into location based services. Also,
airbag deployment and associated g force readings from the MEMS accelerometer taken during a
car crash could send a signal to local emergency services to send police and an ambulance. The six
year CAGR forecast for MEMS sensors in the

Mass V. Mary s Catholic Church
The religious institution that I observed is affiliated with Christianity. Catholics worship is called
Mass and that is what I observed and reflected about. As many of my friends are Catholic, I
thought it would be interesting to go and experience a Catholic Mass, and watch what all happens
during one. Given the opportunity to go to St. Mary s Catholic churchin my hometown with my
friend s family, and experience the Massfirst hand.
As I stepped into the church, I already felt a warm, welcoming feeling. A couple of the members
of the church were at the door to greet one another to point us in the direction of where the
worship would take place. From there, I had to dip my hands in the holy water and make a cross

From listening to the daily readings and reflecting on them with psalms and hymns, I could see
a focused approach to the word. All the readings motivated us to see and face all the challenges
that were in the real world today. The gospel and sermon spoke by the priest were, even more of
a celebration of the word and to proclaim our faith outside the church. Following the time of
listening and reflecting on the readings of the day, I noticed that it was then time to reflect and
act upon faith. Worshippers would bring up offerings and gifts that would be blessed and
accepted by Jesus. I think the public display of communion with all the worshipers was evident
when everyone went up to the altar to receive the bread, which is similar my church. I think that
the second part of Mass showed the actions of faith that were taken after celebrating the word of
God. Overall, the service was pleasing and enjoyable to observe. The visit made me see and
understand the Mass and the symbolism that the church itself has. I enjoyed the first part of
listening to the word and having the priest apply the sermon and readings directly into our lives
today and then the second part, seeing everyone participate in gathering gifts and communion,
showing their faith and proclaiming it. I found the choir to be interesting that they do most of the
singing with sometimes everyone singing but overall it was a good

Different Aspects Of A Disease System
DISCUSSION
Zoonotic disease systems are complex and difficult to predict because there are a large number
of biotic and abiotic variables (Alexander et al. 2012). These variables may include biological,
genetic, ecological, environmental, and socio economic factors (Wilcox and Gubler 2005, Estrada
Pena et al 2014). However, integrated models can provide crucial insights into the ecological
dynamics of a disease system (Plowright et al. 2008), and they can help inform public health
interventions and guide public health policies (Leach and Scoones 2013). By simplifying these
different aspects of a zoonotic disease system into constrained components that are easier to
understand, models can answer specific questions about disease system ... Show more content on

Our MTILG analyses revealed no significant concordance between either species in our study area,
suggesting that the movements of mice and ticks across the region are mutually independent.
Indeed, a previous study on the population genetics of black legged ticks in southern Quebec had
shown that long distance dispersal events likely drive tick movement across the landscape (Leo et
al. 2015b). Therefore, examination of tick and mouse distributions across the region should be
performed independently. Nonetheless, disease models predicting zoonotic disease emergence that
engage a multi species approach will produce more accurate risk projections (Estrada Pena et al.
2014) and so our efforts to model B. burgdorferi emergence simultaneously incorporated both the
black legged ticks and the white footed mouse.
In addition to host vector pathogen interactions our model also incorporated climate and
landscape based parameters. This is because species respond differently to varying conditions and
models that focus on using only single predictor variable risk omitting the effects of variables
operating at other spatial scales (Raghavan et al. 2013, Riley et al. 2015). Studies on the Lyme
disease system in North America have shown that disease transmission risks in any region can be
substantially correlated with landscape heterogeneity (Brownstein et al. 2005),

Adult Basic Education and Implications of Digital Literacy...
Adult basic education or ABE is a complicated area given that there are varying definitions of the
words the title contain. Theorists, practitioners and learners can give differing accounts of what it
means to be an adult learner, what constitutes basic education and how to facilitate said education.
In practice, the area of ABE describes a whole range of programs that deliver a baseline or basic set
of skills that all adults are expected to have acquired during compulsory education(ABE, 2013).
According to Jacobson (2012), there is now an increasing availability of digital technology
resources for education that are beginning to be applied to adult basic education settings. The
presences of these technologies are undoubtedly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These technologies also have implications for teacher professional development along the same
community of practice model. A CoP developed in an online environment known as an OCoP
(Harasim, 2012), allow teachers and administrators the forum to discuss and develop best practices
that support teachers in the development of instruction that in turn support learners in the
exploration of digital literacies and content knowledge. An OCoP also takes advantage of and
promotes understanding within the teacher s practice of the usage requirements of digital
technologies within the design and development of curriculum for content knowledge,
computational and language literacy skills as their own professional development is designed
within the digital environment (Hawkes and Pauli, 2010). Additionally, the development of an
OCoP, perhaps as a website or wiki application removes the boundaries of time and place and
increases the efficacy and accessibility of information dissemination and support activities.
Affordances of Digital Technologies
Online learning and distance education technologies have been of keen interest to the adult basic
education community for better than 15 years, as it solves the problem of lack of capacity. The last

Dark social prejudices that were noticeable to a small degree before, blow up in this part of the
series. The magical world is plagued with prejudice among the three races of wizards:
purebloods, wizards that have only magical ancestors; half bloods, wizards with magical and
non magical ancestry; and muggleborns, wizards with non magical ancestry. The purebloods
think themselves better than the other two, but more distinctly over the muggleborn. In the
seventh novel, the racial prejudice comes to a head with the pureblood controlled government
starting an inquisition against the muggleborn; trying to claim that they stole their magic and
sentencing them to a Dementor s Kiss if found guilty. A Dementor s Kiss being the act of having
your soul removed by a dark magical creature that proceeds to eat a soul after kissing its victim.
It s a rather horrifying punishment. Not only this, but before the muggleborn inquisition, in the

The Cost Of Paying Attention By Matthew Crawford
In the article The Cost of Paying Attention , Matthew Crawford, the editor for The New York
Times, argues that paying attention is a very valuable resource. Crawford argues that a person
only has so much of it. He states that things like advertisements can easily distract people from
what they need to focus on. He stresses the importance of silence because silence is hard to come
by and it s what make it possible to think. Since it s much harder to pay attentionwith all the
distraction being around, it s better to prioritize one s brainso distraction won t happen...
(Crawford) Throughout my entire life, I realized it was difficult for me to pay attention for more
than 15 minutes, so I had to try different methods when paying attention to remain focus. Now that
I have overcome that weakness, you can t pay me to lose focus from anything. I have now learned
which of my tasks have certain amounts of importance levels when it comes to getting things done.
I agree with the fact that now days paying attention is important, silence is offered as a luxurious

sense because the mood is a different feel when going into a quiet luxurious place. I once went
into a lounge in an airport, and as soon as I entered, I felt as if I was in the rich people land. The

Parallel Web Pages in English and Regional Languages
Language identification of written text in the domain of Latin script based languages is a well
studied research area. However, new challenges arise when it is applied to non Latin script based
languages, particularly for Asian languages web pages. Web page classification creates new
research challenges because of the noisy nature of the pages. It s no doubt that English has been the
predominant language for the World Wide Web
since its inception and so it s usage is confined to a
specific community of people have a good grasp of the English language. The serviceability factors
of the Internet have proven to be beneficial to a highly educated society, because of the linguistic

which ultimately led to the progression of humanity. The flaming torch in the bottom left is a

mythology. Another symbol for Zeus is storm clouds, because he is the god of the sky and
lightning. In the painting, the sky is full of dark grey and tumultuous storm clouds, which may
represent Zeus anger at the Titan, while also conveying a serious tone. The painting also reveals
green land in the distance and far below the peak of the mountain. Rubens may have included the
green scenery in the background, behind the cliffs and Prometheus to emphasize the Titan s
isolation from the rest of the world as part of his punishment. The chains in the painting also convey
a sense of isolation,

Dangerous Liaisons
Even today there is a very defined tension between men and women. This tension has been around
for centuries and is evident in the novel Dangerous Liaisons especially in the interactions between
the main two characters, Valmont and Merteuil. In many ways, these two have opposing moral with
the rest of society. These are greed, conquest, and corruption. These oppose the society because the
society values religion and decency, all throughout the story Valmont and Merteuil go against those
values with their actions. To begin, Valmont very much values conquest and corruption. This is
evident in just about everything he does. Conquest is our destiny: we must follow it, (Laclos11) As

was a girl. This is where the battle between genders manifests. Even to this day it is argued that
women have a harder time accomplishing thing than men. This was very true in the late 1700 s
since it was expected for women to get married off to a rich husband and just spend her days
doing nothing. But Merteuil didn t except this and bettered herself so she didn t have to face this
fate. Valmont is just so vain that he refuses Merteuil s claims and believes he is better this is the

Vincent Price, Grimm s fairy tales, and Roald Dahl. Burton is great at using Cinematic
Techniques. He makes the movies pull at the viewer s emotions, either in a happy, sad, or scary
way by using framing, lighting, camera angles, music/sound, and editing. Tim Burton uses
framing a lot to either show the detailed features of a person s face or to show their expression.
During Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he did a close up on Willy Wonka s face during one
of his flashbacks to show that he was pained to think of his bad childhood. He also uses a close up
shot on Willy Wonka at the beginning to show how WILLY wonka looks. In the beginning of

Film Review
Don t you see the family resemblance?
A wise epigrammatist once said, the unexpected is usually what brings the unbelievable .
Remember the Titans a non fiction sports drama, illustrates a sports narrative with a look at racial
discrimination during the civil rights era. Director and producer Boaz Yakin and Jerry Bruckheimer
respectively, paint a dramatic and emotional image of 1970 Virginia, when a community of African
Americans and European Americans are forced to integrate. Expected to become a complete failure,
Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), is appointed as the head coach of TC Williams High School
football team. In his time of coaching, Boone leads his team to unbelievable success, making his
whole community proud.
The movie released on the 25th of January 2000, goes back in time to 1971 Alexander, Virginia,
where schools were segregated for decades. That year however, was the year in which 2 schools
were shut down, which resulted in the African Americans and European Americans to integrate at
TC Williams High School. In the hope of stopping the protests, Bill Yost The European American
coach is sacked and replaced by Herman Boone The African American coach. Yost then accepts the
job as assistant coach, offered by Boone. As the coaches of the team, they push their players, and

Throughout The Oresteia, the themes of justice and revenge are often used as reasoning for certain
events that take place. In many instances, the characters refer to certain events as revenge, while
others see them as justice. For example, Clytemnestra kills her wife in pursuit of justice, and can be
displayed as just due to her motives and reasoning. Orestes killing of Clytemnestramay be viewed
as just in his eyes, but in reality, is revenge. In The Oresteia, revenge, often portrayed as a selfish

Deforestation of Our Rainforests
The most destructive and harmful tragedy that our rainforests, specifically the Amazon, suffer from
is deforestation. Deforestation is the clearing or destruction of land throughout forests.
Unfortunately, human beings are the number one cause of deforestation throughout the world.
The reason if this is simply because we use the wood mainly for things like hydroelectric dams
that power communities, palm oil for its biofuel resourcefulness, and the mining for diamond and
gold. Another reason would be intentional fires that are used to destroy acres of forest in a quick
amount of time for things like construction. Using fires to clear out land quickly is used because
taking the time to clear out the land for what will be built would be slower using any other process.
The wood can be useful but little do they know that deforestationis extremely harmful to the
environment. Deforestation has many effects on the environment. First of all trees make oxygenand
oxygen is a necessity for human life Trees exchange carbon dioxide(Green house gas) and turns it
into oxygen which again we need to survive, if the carbon dioxide isn t changed fast enough then
green house gases build up and the earth heats up carding to the cycle of Global Warming . Not
only that but destroying trees destroys countless ecosystems and organisms that are a part of nature,
and changing ecosystems and habitats can affect many animals. Destroying the trees will cause a
habitat change that will disrupt the

Critical Analysis Of The Night In Question By Tobias...

Intro to Ethics 04
TA: Ashli Godfrey
September 26, 2016
The Dehumanizing and Immoral Alternatives to Utilitarianism
The Night in Question by Tobias Wolff and Should the Numbers Count by John Taurek are both
critical analyses that argue against the moral principles of utilitarianism. This theory is used to
make decisions by calculating the consequences of an action in terms of how much pain and
pleasure it causes the world. Wolff and Taurek both believe that this principle is too calculating,
and does not take into account the emotions of the decision maker. Both essays use examples that
involve choosing between killing one person you know and many people you don t know. Taurek
uses the example of having a pill that can save one person he knows, or five strangers. Wolff tells
a narrative about a man choosing between killing his only son, or a hundred people on a train. ...

He believes that emotions and personal relationships play a huge role in the decision making
process, and that choosing to kill your child, which is what a utilitarian would do, is a Bible
school answer (Wolff 79), meaning it is not a realistic choice. However, I tend to disagree as
utilitarianism takes into account the emotions of all, not just oneself. So, no matter how much
pain killing your loved one will cause you, it is nothing in comparison to the same pain the
hundreds of other families of those who died on the train will feel because you went to save your
son. In fact, Wolff is actually promoting selfishness. He is saying that you not morally wrong if
you choose to side with your own emotions over the same emotions felt by many more people.
Wolff needs to widen his view and think about how the consequences affect everyone, not just

The Bionic Man And The Morality Of Bioengineering
The Bionic Man and the Morality of Bioengineering Thomas Jefferson once declared the rights to
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness to be inalienable rights. Before him, John Locke
espoused the philosophical view of Libertarianism with the belief that everyone has the right to life,
liberty, health, and property. Since the Enlightenment there has been an emphasis on life, but rarely
has the quality of life been an issue. There are no written ethical codes in science or engineering
that defines what should be an appropriate quality of life. Perhaps we are approaching the time
where such measures need to be addressed. The 21st century has seen the intersection of medicine
and technology. With the emergence and development of bioengineering, or the application of
engineering to the natural world, society has seen rapid and accelerated change to how we interact
with each other. For example, a recent experiment with preschool children and a robotic dog was
conducted in 2006 to explore the relationship between humans and robotics. AIBO, Artificial
Intelligence Bot, was introduced to a group of preschool children. The children were given 45
minutes of interaction with AIBO and a stuffed dog which acted as a control. The results indicated
that while both the stuffed animal and AIBO received the same amount of engagement, AIBO
received more verbal instructions and was mistreated less than the stuffed dog. Ultimately, the pre

Emission Nebulaes
The Milky Way contains billions of stars with different ages and sizes. One example of a star
which is closest to earth is the Sun. Just like all the other stars the sun is a luminous ball of gas
which mostly contains hydrogen and helium and is held together with its own gravity. All the
stars produce their own energy by a process called nuclear fusion. Stars life begins in the place
what astronomers call the Nebulae. A nebula is enormous cloud consisting of dust and gas; mainly

particularly at Bentham s Panopticon and how it is a working example of how the theory is
employed effectively. Foucault explains, in Discipline and Punishthat this book is intended as a
correlative history of the modern soul and of a new power to judge (Foucault, 1977) and opens
with accounts of public execution and torture revealing how law and order is created because of
the shift from these to prisonrules and discipline. Foucault describes the quarantining and... Show

In this way, the surveillance is permanent in its effects, even if it is discontinuous in its action
(Foucault, 1977, p201) meaning that the individual is internalised with a conscious state that he is
always being watched, and so no guards are needed as self regulation is achieved, this was best
described by Foucault when he defined the major effect of the Panopticon; to induce in the inmate a
state of conscious and permanent visibility that assures the automatic functioning of power
(Foucault, 1975). Supporting one of the key panoptic principles that visibility is a trap (Foucault,
1977, p200). Foucault goes on to explain that its strength is that it never intervenes (Foucault, 1977,
p206), as it constitutes a mechanism whose effects follow from one another , (Foucault, 1977,
p206), there is the possibility that one could intervene at any given moment, but this is never
necessary due to internalisation of a state of awareness. The inhabitants of the cells become Docile
Bodies (Foucault, 1977, p135), something which he describes in full; explaining that it is achieved
through mental, rather than physical discipline, the type of discipline which is created within the
Panopticon, but could be seen earlier, as Foucault describes, in the training of soldiers, or monks.

Symbolism In The Dust Bowl
An example of symbolism in The Dust Bowl is in the poem On The Road With Arley when
Billy Joe Said And every little crowd is grateful to hear a rag or two played on the piano by a
long legged, red haired girl, even when the piano has a few keys soured by dust. This is
symbolic for the struggle that the family has to deal with because of the drought, dust storms,
and their way of life. In this poem, when Billy Joe says At first Ma crossed her arms against her
chest and stared me down, hard jawed and sharp, and said I couldn t go. is an example of
imagery. This shows imagery because the reader can imagine Ma staring down at Billy Joe with
anger and sternness. This lets the reader know that the mom is annoyed and mad at Billie Joe for

  • 2. World War One ( Wwi ) World War One (WWI) is an important event in history and impacted history in a great way for four years during 1914 to 1918. It is known as the Great War because the French, British, and Germans did not know there would be another world war in history. The events occurring through August and July of 1914 had catalysts to help the war build up its stockpile. The war was a conflict between the Allied Powers (France, Russia, Britain, Italy and the United States), and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire). The main causes of WWI was the rise in nationalism, which was very strong in Germany becoming a leading factor, economic imperialism, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 who was heir to the Austro Hungarian throne. In Germany, William II, the King of Prussia and emperor of Germany, was not a good leader, but he exhibited aggressiveness. The rise of German nationalism was exerting influence to the state during his ruling. During his reign, the Farmer s League was organized in the 1890s, and they influenced farmers and the rural masses to mobilize against the Jews (they were jealous of the Jews and hated them due to racism and because they were successful with business enterprises). Anti Semitism was an idea created by Adolf Hitler, which his ideas caused a lot of racism and conflict. The Navy league and Pan German League laid a foundation for German nationalism for WWI. • 3. Essay On The Untold Story Of Plymouth Plantation The Untold Story of Plymouth Plantation The Puritan s voyage to the New World in 1620 is one of the most well known pilgrimages throughout history. However, there are two different accounts of the events to be discussed: one by William Bradford himself and another in the form of a documentary. Bradford was one of the 102 people to voyage across the Atlantic in order to start the Plymouth colonyin Cape Cod. He would later become a very influential leader. His version of the events, entitled Of Plymouth Plantation, is his first hand account of his voyage and the settlement of Plymouth. Bradford wrote his chronicle in plain style, a type of writing that is simplistic and very straightforward. Bradford says the following of his death, But it pleased God before they came half seas over, to smite this young man with a grievous disease, of which he died in a desperate manner, and so was himself the first that was thrown overboard. (Bradford 6). Here, he is stating that God chose for him to die because he cursed at passengers and was overall an unholy person who, in Bradford s mind, deserved to die. In modern times, we know that all of the settlers who died met their ends from diseases and hypothermia during the truly horrible winter from 1609 10 or, like the ship hand, died from disease. Cordoba Research Paper The Great Mosque of Cordoda In Spain, Cordoba was the original center of Muslim culture once the Umayyads of Spain assumed their title as caliphs and Cordoba became their capital. The Great Mosque of Cordoba is a hypostyle mosque that may be considered as the purest of all Arabic architecture and even though the construction of this Mosque is based on a converted Visigoth church (Burckhardt and Michaud. 132). As other early mosque, the architects reused elements, such as columns of pre Islamic building to construct the Mosque of Cordoba. • 8. Analysis of Bertrand RussellВґs The Problems of Philosphy... 06455401 1) The philosopher Bertrand Russell in his work, The Problems of Philosophy, comes to some conclusions of the truth of objects in our world. Through questioning certain ideas and problems in our world, he breaks down what can know what really exists in the world and what does not. Russell, an empiricist, believes that through our sensory perception of our environment. However, our own individual perception can be skewed, and therefore is susceptible to err. Russell gives an example of three people, one is color blind, one is sick, and one is inebriated sick, and one is inebriated, and ask them to describe the same chair, they will all give you slightly different answers. Then if you take that chair and put it behind a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This consistency proposes to Russell, that we, at least, must have faith in the reality of a single, specific, real chair. To this commonsensible belief, he also goes on to propose the idea that real objects cause the sense data we intake, so therefore must be related to them in a certain noteworthy way. So from this what can we believe and not believe to exist? Well first of all we can believe that, if we are looking at the chair, we can conclude the object itself is real, there is a chair there. Our senses take in the sense data of a chair, four legs, a back rest, etc. We then take this data and use our prior knowledge of other chair like things, and we can come to the solution of the object we are looking at is a chair. This logic applies to all objects in such a manner. However we cannot truly believe that certain things truly exists. Such as the fact that we cannot truly believe the existence of certain characteristics of an objects when it s subject outside influence, such as a chair in water. To the naked eye, the chair would look distorted, but it is not so, the water distorts our perception of the chair, therefore deceiving our view of the reality of the characteristics of the chair. In conclusion, Russell gives us an answer to the question, if our senses can be easily deceived and tricked into perceiving and reality that is false, how can we believe it ... The sensor market is enormous, with Analog Devices estimating it to approach $100 billion annually, much of which is not related to semiconductors at all. The major application for automotive MEMS is for sensing when to deploy airbags. In this market MEMS sensors are replacing sensors such as fiber optic gyroscopes and ring laser gyroscopes. Additional applications are in electronics stability control, tire pressure measurement and, going forward, using the sensor to track location while in a structure such as a parking garage where a GPS signal cannot reach. Of course air deployment is not really something that can be categorized as part of the Internet of Things. However, the connected car seems to be a reality that is approaching rapidly. Once the car is connected to the Internet via one of the wireless technologies mentioned here or one that is coming specifically for automobiles, and software like iOS or Android gets installed, we expect the car to see a significant increase in the use of the sensor information. For example, the MEMS sensor could indicate that a tire is flat and then with location based services, a nearby garage could be suggested. Similarly, the adoption of MEMS into the car to determine position while satellites cannot reach the GPS can also be used to tie into location based services. Also, airbag deployment and associated g force readings from the MEMS accelerometer taken during a car crash could send a signal to local emergency services to send police and an ambulance. Different Aspects Of A Disease System DISCUSSION Zoonotic disease systems are complex and difficult to predict because there are a large number of biotic and abiotic variables (Alexander et al. 2012). These variables may include biological, genetic, ecological, environmental, and socio economic factors (Wilcox and Gubler 2005, Estrada Pena et al 2014). However, integrated models can provide crucial insights into the ecological dynamics of a disease system (Plowright et al. 2008), and they can help inform public health interventions and guide public health policies (Leach and Scoones 2013). Our MTILG analyses revealed no significant concordance between either species in our study area, suggesting that the movements of mice and ticks across the region are mutually independent. Indeed, a previous study on the population genetics of black legged ticks in southern Quebec had shown that long distance dispersal events likely drive tick movement across the landscape (Leo et al. 2015b). Therefore, examination of tick and mouse distributions across the region should be performed independently. Nonetheless, disease models predicting zoonotic disease emergence that engage a multi species approach will produce more accurate risk projections (Estrada Pena et al. 2014) and so our efforts to model B. burgdorferi emergence simultaneously incorporated both the black legged ticks and the white footed mouse. In addition to host vector pathogen interactions our model also incorporated climate and landscape based parameters. This is because species respond differently to varying conditions and models that focus on using only single predictor variable risk omitting the effects of variables operating at other spatial scales (Raghavan et al. 2013, Riley et al. 2015). Deforestation is the clearing or destruction of land throughout forests. Unfortunately, human beings are the number one cause of deforestation throughout the world. The reason if this is simply because we use the wood mainly for things like hydroelectric dams that power communities, palm oil for its biofuel resourcefulness, and the mining for diamond and gold. Another reason would be intentional fires that are used to destroy acres of forest in a quick amount of time for things like construction. Gabe Barclay Intro to Ethics 04 TA: Ashli Godfrey September 26, 2016 The Dehumanizing and Immoral Alternatives to Utilitarianism The Night in Question by Tobias Wolff and Should the Numbers Count by John Taurek are both critical analyses that argue against the moral principles of utilitarianism. This theory is used to make decisions by calculating the consequences of an action in terms of how much pain and pleasure it causes the world. Wolff and Taurek both believe that this principle is too calculating, and does not take into account the emotions of the decision maker. Both essays use examples that involve choosing between killing one person you know and many people you don t know. Taurek uses the example of having a pill that can save one person he knows, or five strangers. He believes that emotions and personal relationships play a huge role in the decision making process, and that choosing to kill your child, which is what a utilitarian would do, is a Bible school answer (Wolff 79), meaning it is not a realistic choice. So, no matter how much pain killing your loved one will cause you, it is nothing in comparison to the same pain the hundreds of other families of those who died on the train will feel because you went to save your son. The Bionic Man And The Morality Of Bioengineering The Bionic Man and the Morality of Bioengineering Thomas Jefferson once declared the rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness to be inalienable rights. Before him, John Locke espoused the philosophical view of Libertarianism with the belief that everyone has the right to life, liberty, health, and property. Since the Enlightenment there has been an emphasis on life, but rarely has the quality of life been an issue. There are no written ethical codes in science or engineering that defines what should be an appropriate quality of life. Perhaps we are approaching the time where such measures need to be addressed. The 21st century has seen the intersection of medicine and technology. With the emergence and development of bioengineering, or the application of engineering to the natural world, society has seen rapid and accelerated change to how we interact with each other. AIBO, Artificial Intelligence Bot, was introduced to a group of preschool children. The children were given 45 minutes of interaction with AIBO and a stuffed dog which acted as a control.
