In the UK, 35 million people log on daily and £1 billion is spent weekly on internet activities. 18 million UK residents read blogs. The internet is described as a "great leveller" because it provides equal access, voice, and potential by challenging traditional assumptions about expertise and control of information. However, libertarian values of the internet can clash with human instincts to profit from and exert control over information.
