QUESTIONNAIRE AND RESULTS
DEMOGRAPHICS
As a way of finding a main demographic for my
product my first question asked for the age of
the person taking part in the questionnaire.
As can be seen on the right, the people that
answered my questionnaire were within the age
range of 16-20. From this I now know the age
range of my target audience and I will bear this
in mind when making my product.
The second question I asked regarded the
sexuality of the person doing the questionnaire.
From this question I can see that the only
people to have taken part in the questionnaire
were male, I will use this to now focus on a
more masculine audience. However, I will not
ignore the fact that females also watch horror
films and for that reason my product will not
only cater for males but also females too.
PSYCHOGRAPHICS
The third question that I asked allowed
me to have an insight into my audiences
interests and from this I will be able to
orientate my product so that it fits some
of these interests. Looking at the data
that I received I can see that the
interests that many people chose tend to
orientate around pop culture, such as
listening to music, playing video games
and watching films/TV, I can now use
this as a way of producing a product that
is similar to the films of today as this
appears to be what my audience are
interested in. As a way of drawing in the
pop culture audience I will have to use
music that is modern, or music that suits
both the genre and the audience, as well
as actors that appear young. By using a
young cast in my product it will be more
of a teen horror which is suitable as the
previous questions showed that my
audience are aged between 16-20.
From the question on the right I was able to
get an idea of the amount of people from
my target audience that watch horror films.
This is a valuable insight as I now know
that only 50% of the people that answered
my questionnaire watch horror films and for
that reason those who don’t watch them
probably know a little less about the topic in
comparison to those who do watch horror
films.
This data shows me that the people
that answered my questionnaire don’t
often watch horror films and for that
reason may have either a particular
taste in sub genre or choose not to
watch them.
However, my next question shows that
people do watch them for particular
reasons, such as an ‘adrenaline’ rush.
This question also showed me that
people like to watch horror films for
the ‘mystery’ and immersion.
Looking at this data I can see that I'm
going to need to provided these
factors as a way of drawing in the
audience and keepng them
entertained.
The question on the right is one of the
most important as it allows me to see
what it is that the audience are most
interested in. From looking at the data I
can see that the most preferred sub-
genre of horror is zombie and for that
reason it may be a good idea to create a
product in-line with what the audience
like to watch. As well as this I can see
that comedy horror is another favourite
of the audience and for that reason I
could also create production concepts
for this sub-genre as a way of keeping
an audience. Apart from Psychological
horror I can see that other sub-genres
are not liked as much by my audience
and for that reason I will not consider
creating production concepts for these
genres on the basis that they do not
have a wide audience.
The question on the right allowed me to
get a good idea of what to include in my
product. From this data I can see that I
will need to include a range of
conventional aspects of both form and
genre when making my trailer. By
following the suggested expectations I
should be able to not only advertise to my
target audience but also keep the interest
of them as well.
By looking at the received data of this
question I can see that I will need to
include concepts that are already
used in todays film. I can see that I
will need to use conventional music
for the genre that also suits the film
as well, by doing this it creates a
trailer that looks much more genuine
in comparison to a trailer that has
music that does not match.
The idea of having a story that is
based upon some form of truth is also
mentioned in my data, however I
believe that using a believable
concept may be much harder to do if I
was doing something such as a
zombie horror, on the other hand if I
were to a psychological horror I could
base it upon some form of truth.
Looking at the answers for this
question I can see some good, basic
concept ideas that I would consider
using myself as a way of being
interactive with the audience. I could
also incorporate some of the ideas into
my own when I begin work on my
production concepts.
