How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
By Karen Nguyen
COLOUR SCHEME:
- I used the colour pink mainly through my whole MAGAZINE as it
represent a female social group as my target audience are young girls I
feel that the colour pink throughout my MAGAZINE I suitable for this
social afro up and represents the feminist social group really well.
- additionally the many shades of pink used also represents a teenage
social group as teenage girls commonly like the colour pink as it's the
first colour that they are stereotyped to when they are born with and
through out there lives girls are usually associated with this colour.
- using little features such as stars that are bright yellow in colour also
represent this females / girls which are my target audience as stars still
represented as a feminine feature as it is light and soft like the ways
females are represented.
- finally the colour white that is also used mostly through out the
magazine is a neutral colour that can be used to represent both
genders females and males. It can be said that certain aspects of my
magazine can be targeted to males whereas females however it's is
mainly aimed to female consumers.
IMAGES :
- The images that I have used in my magazine represent a different social group
to convents of other music magazine my magazine uses 'black' ethnic group
which is seem as different and appeal more to that ethnic group which results in
rather then just the normal 'white' audience my magazine is able to attract
other ethnic groups.
- The images also have not just female models also male models which may
sometimes also attract the made social group to read magazine even thought
males do not generally read 'pop' magazine. However if they see male roe
models in a magazine it would attract a male social group to consume/ read
the magazine more.
- Additionally, within my images the models are not always so formal some
images within my throughout my music some images are informal and more fun
to look at as it is a music magazine for young girls I felt that it would fit my
audience more. So by the way the models are posing can also be attracted to
different social groups as they are informal and not too formal it would attract
more audiences.
FONT & TEXT:
- the effect that I used through out my
magazine that was developed on
Photoshop was the effect that the fill 'inside'
the text was a lighter/ different colour overall
to the outline of the word. The effect that did
on the text makes my magazine different as
it stands out from normal texts of magazines.
- throughout my music magazine mainly for
headings I used an effect to make the text
seem more playful and fun to look at. I did
this to attract younger social groups as they
are not usually formal so it reflects my target
audience and also attracts young people
that are mainly the social groups and target
audience that I want to consume my
magazine.
