Phoebe’s first spoke about the end scene in my music video, where the characters reunite at the end that the
black and white was a good way to show the happiness of the characters returning. This is what I wanted
when I decided the have the scenes in black and white until they reunited, I wanted the audience to pick up
on the fact that the black and white was connoting loss, and the colour was representing that loss coming
back to them. Phoebe, Kiran, Eisha and Olivia all picked up on this fact (as Maximo, Lucie, and Laurenc
were in the same room as Kiran and Olivia, so they probably didn’t want to repeat the same points,) and the
fact that most of my audience picked up on the emotional impact shows that the use of colour in my music
video was successfully registered by my audience. Eisha also said that the colour “brought my music video
to life,” which further develops the ideas I originally had, and it shows how the audience interpret my editing
chooses.
Phoebe and Laurenc both said my editing was high standard and it matched the song, my lip sync was
perfect, and lyrics fit with the music. This means that my editing was one of the first things noticed by my
audience, and it also shows that my editing helped a lot to assist the storyline of my music video. However,
Phoebe later goes on to talk about how the storyline confused her, but Eisha says the storyline was the best
part of the music video. This is two very juxtaposed opinions on the same thing, and it shows that some of
my audience could interpret my music video. If I want my whole audience to understand what is going on in
the storyline, I would have a two minute intro explaining the story. This is very common in music videos
these days, Adele, Fall Out Boy and Coldplay have had music video where there is a little part of the story
established before the music actually begins. Having a few minutes of context might have made it easier to
follow for certain audience members.
Phoebe, Laurenc and Maximo all said I needed more ranges of shots because I only had too many long
shots, and I could have used close-ups. Three people noticed that my shots could have been better to help
show my audience the story so I probably did use too many long shots, and could have established my
characters, and storylines with a use of more shots throughout my music video. For example, Lucie and
Eisha both said that the parts with the vocalist were too long, and the angles were both the same, and I
should have used other shots to present the singer. However, Lucie also said my choice of angles, like a
birds eye view for when one of the children are running up the stairs helps see the characters struggle
meaning my shot choices were okay, but they could have been better. Eisha didn’t say anything against the
shot choices, but believed I could have used better transitions and I should have darkened parts of my music
video as specific parts were too bright which could be distracting for certain audience members.
Kiran believed parts of the music video specifically the part where my vocalist is signing in front of an
abandoned garage I shouldn’t have had the signs that said “No ball games” and “Danger” in the
background. I could have moved the shot down a little and cut those parts out to make the music video more
professional for my audience. However those signs are a key part of my digipak, and they connote love, and
danger, but maybe they shouldn’t have appeared in my music video without context.
