What Is a Tag? 
A small piece of 
paper, cloth, plastic, 
etc. attached to sth to 
identify it or give 
information about it
What Are Question Tags? 
►You will have an English quiz next Sunday, won’t you? 
► Rahmah didn’t come today, did she? 
► Ibrahim has done well lately, hasn’t he? 
► Abdur-Rahman comes early, doesn’t he? 
► Yaseen couldn’t stop laughing, could he?
How Do We Form Question Tags? 
1. An auxiliary (helping) verb + the appropriate pronoun 
2. They take the same auxiliary verb as in the statement 
3. They take “do” or “does” or “did” if there isn’t an auxiliary verb in the 
statement 
4. After Affirmative, we use Negative 
5. After Negative, we use Affirmative
There are few exceptions, aren’t there? 
1. Let’s has the tag shall we 
Let’s have a quiz, 
shall we? 
2. Let me / him have the tag will you / won’t you 
You’ll let me help you, 
3. have (possession) has the tag haven’t 
Mahmoud has a blue car, 
4. have (idiomatically) has the tag don’t 
Leena has a terrible headache, 
have to (idiomatically) has the tag don’t 
Hajar had to take the exam, 
5. I am has the tag aren’t I 
I am proud of you all, 
won’t you? / will you?
