Question 6: What have you learnt
about technologies from the process
of constructing the product?
Dillon Ashford-Quaye
Photos
I have learnt how important mise-en-sene is when it
comes to taking pictures. The model's costume can relate
to the magazine you are constructing. So before doing my
magazine i had to research on the clothing associated
with my genre. Same goes with Location, Props and
lighting. I also learn about different types of shots. This
was important because different angles and types of shot
convey different meanings in many different ways. When
using a Nikon bridge camera I had to consider this before
taking pictures. Taking picture was not too complicated
because bridge cameras are highly restricted with what
you can do compared to SLR/DSLR cameras.
Post production programs
Before starting this magazine, i new nothing about photoshop so i had
to do a lot of research on how to use it so i can learn a lot of new skills
on Photoshop when putting my magazine together. I had to do a lot of
research using youtube to find out how to crop pictures. This came in
useful because in my front cover, the background of the main image
has been removed so i can use a white background instead. I also
learnt of to change colours of certain objects and clothing. I used this
technique in all my 3 pages. On the front cover and DPS, I changed the
model's jacket from blue to black. On my contents page i changed the
background of the image to black and white but kept the original
colours of the model's clothing. to do this i had to also use the
cropping techniques i learnt. I also made my masthead on photoshop
rather than using front websites. This was so I can make an original
masthead that is not easy to come across.
Website applications
I used a few website applications to showcase my
work created so the overall presentation won't look
dull, long and boring to mark. The website
applications i used were, wikispace (to store all my
work), Prezi (to answer questions for my
evaluation) and slideshare (to also present some
powerpoints). Prezi makes your presentation look
more exciting with its layouts and transitions
between slide. Slideshare allows you to put
powerpoint slides on websites like wikispace
without taking up too much space
