Northern & Shell networkHistory…Northern & Shell was founded in December 1974, its vision was to become a significant part of worldwide media. This ambition really came into action in 2000 with the ownership of the Express newspapers. Today, they own four national newspapers and 50% of two in Ireland. It is in the forefront of digital media because it is a major stakeholder in ‘YouView’ which is the worlds leading internet television service. More importantly, N&S owns one of theworld’sbiggest celebrity gossip magazines, ‘OK!’.
GMF’s target marketThe particular audience I wanted to aim GMF magazine at was a young group aged 13-30, however, I still wanted to attract an older audience who are interested in indie music and have a good back catalogue of music that links to the genre GMF magazine is portraying.
Why I chose N&SN&S currently have a broad range of print media ranging from newspapers to gossip magazines and each of them are incredibly successful. However, there is a gap in their portfolio for a music magazine. I figured if they have this much success publishing The Daily Express, The Sunday Express, Ok! Magazine e.t.c. then they would be just as successful publishing GMF magazine. Another factor as to why I chose Northern and Shell is because they also own Channel 5 so this will be a good affordable marketing strategy toadvertise  GMF Magazine, another good area in which N&S can place GMF for advertising is in their OK! Magazines which are printed all over the world.
To conclude…In conclusion I have chosen Northern and Shell to distribute GMF magazine because there is a gap in their portfolio for my magazine and I feel that their previous success reflects on the potential for GMF magazine.
