What have you learnt from audience feedback?
Target audience
From our previous target audience research which was conducted before the making
of the video we decided our main focus group would be teenagers between the age of
16-19 who are likely to be from working or middle class backgrounds in order to
empathize with the lyrics. They would be chilled out and like to take the alternative of
different route in most situations and choices to music as well as style.
To prove if our judgment was correct we have displayed our music video to a group of
young people and seen what their feedback was like, here are a few results.
Ben Nicholls, aged 18.
“I really liked your music video and thought it was extremely different to something most people would understand,
personally my self I like to b alternative in my choice of music, The filming style was urban and realistic which I liked and
I am usually a calm and quiet person who is interested in aesthetically pleasing works of art and I feel this video suits the
genre.”
Jamal Vedat, aged 17.
“I am really into Hip Hop music and I love your video, the effects and transitions are something that almost play with the
traditional ideas from this genre but with the rural location I really feel like this video is successful in what its
portraying. What I do also think is, this is a hard video for people to understand who are not to familiar with the genre,
and this may be difficult to explain”
With our overall accumulated feedback put together it is clear we have impressed our chosen target audience.
With our selection of location we have created a video which plays and breaks traditional conventions of an
alternative hip hop video but also follows the rules with the camera angles and shots. Our casting and acting
was viewed as mysterious and thrilling but also hard to understand by audiences unfamiliar with the style of
genre. The artists facial expression and connotations of looking away from the camera really caught the
audiences attention as they felt this kept them hooked, the lyrics and setting also helped to create a story and
send across a deeper message then intended as each person perceived a something a little different.
This is a typical audience profile example from our feedback results:
Name: Jamie Malcom
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Nationality: British
Occupation: Student
class: working class
Preferred genre: Hip/Hop and alternative Hip Hop
Favorite artist: Childish Gambino
Style: Alternative, fashionable, simple and stylish, influence by artists.
Favorite pass time: Chilling, smoking, seeing friends, going out
Opinion on video: Good really liked the visuals and the lyrics suited it so well, really my kind of thing, very chilled back and relaxed
creating a pleasant aura which worked well and would watch again and recommend.
Suggested improvements: Reveal the face of the female because this will be something men are interested in and help to excite
the audience more.
This a video that our typical audience profile would be interested in.
Our audience feedback made us understand what we could improve and where we may have gone wrong, helpfully us doing the audience
feedback along the line of creation gave us the chance to note down any parts that the audience liked and thought could be improved on. We
really were able to evaluate our strong areas of editing such as the color pigment filters used on the location and some of our weaker points,
the match on action of the running shot but smoothly altered this with the comment from our audience, ultimately leading to our successful
music video. Lastly our feedback was approached fairly as we asked a mixed bunch of people interested in a variety of genres as well as from
ours and from several age ranges with completely different demographics.

Feedback
from family
members:
We had a small screening session
with some fellow students, we asked
for feedback on what they enjoyed
most and what they thought could
be improved. With the aid of a
questionnaire we had made It made
it simple to see where our flaws
were. We also left a box for
suggestions on how to improve this
and this really seemed helpful as it
generated a bunch of new ideas.
Our video was displayed to the
teachers just like with the students
but we asked them to only comment
on what parts they really liked and
though we should use more of, this
helped us to improve the video as
we received positive feedback.
Showing the video to a group who
were not involved in the project
opened up a new eye to us, they
were able to spot a critical mistake
with the lip syncing which we
adjusted. This group also seemed to
give very honest feedback which we
could collectively use.
