The document discusses the film poster the author created for their short film. It focuses on connecting the poster to the narrative of the film by hinting at the plot through imagery while avoiding directly revealing spoilers. Red is used as the main color to identify the film as horror, and the font style is influenced by previous horror films to signal the genre to audiences. Key characters and themes from the film are represented on the poster without using the main character. The goal is to attract audiences looking for a horror film through the use of genre conventions while preserving mystery about the specific story.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. My film Poster mostly tried to connect to the film by focusing on the narrative and using that to hint
to the audience the plot, as I have stated multiple times my short film is the first film our production
company has created so for our target audience there is not yet a sense of expectations, or codes
the audience can anticipate with. So I felt although is was my duty to hint the plot on the poster but
use the most questionable topics in our film and place it on the poster e.g. the rat being a big
conspiracy and miss understanding and the link between the rat and the monster in the film, same
with the monster and the little girl who causes the thoughts of the crumbs and associating that to
rats. As someone that was part of the production the poster kind of acts like a CYCLE.
2. These last 3 pictures link together, because it
unwraps the cliff hanger at the very end. The girl
turns out to be the ghost haunting. However adding
it in the poster suggests a relevance to the narrative.
This was good feature In my poster because it made
her look like the victim which is a typical convention
in horror films and placing the girl on the poster is
often found too.
3. Most Horror films are identified by the colours they use on their
poster e.g. Red on black. What I mean by red on black, is that
Poster tend to use black backgrounds or create a very dark
gloomy atmosphere but use the colour of red to give a pop to
the poster, more so to make it stand out from the others. Other
genres use a lot of dark colours in their poster background.
(Action adventure) The Dark Knight uses these gloomy dull
saturated techniques in it’s poster style however it’s the red in
Horror posters that be associate it to gore and blood and
conveys the genre.
Poster that use dark backgrounds
Horror Poster
Despite the fact that Saw is a
debatable horror, it is a great
example of what codes and
conventions are expected in a horror
film poster. Red is used to connote
blood and in most cases this message
is enhanced by the font style.
Normally associating with blood
spilling or paint drawn on by hand as
seen in both posters.
Here’s a picture of action adventure film The Dark
Knight compared to Horror films. They both use
similar colours for the background to create quite
a gothic impression but the difference is clearly
seen by the for front eye catching colours.
Horror fonts
Horror fonts have really changed
over time, in most horror films we
watch we identify the genre by the
slashed style, hand painted look
horror fonts give, with swirl to
sharp edges its rusty grunge
aesthetics has stayed the same.
4. Examples of my film poster
using codes and conventions
I firstly picked red because it is the easiest code
the audience can identify and associate with the
horror genre, as it connotes danger or
something evil. Both ideas are expressed in our
short film with the use of music and gestures of
fear from the actors. The tag line is really good
at pushing the message to the audience. The
uses of ellipses in my opinion makes the
sentence more sinister, because of the pause
and again that connects to the film and how
suspenseful it is.
The font was influenced by a lot of previous
film posters, like Jaws but mostly Saw and it’s
dripping effect it had on the font which made it
look like actually blood was being used to spell
the title. Also found in the film “You’re Next” I
thought the use of a paint splashed on style,
would make it so much more easy for
mainstream viewers at the cinema that are
specifically looking for a horror film to watch.
You’re Next film title
Adding the antagonist to the poster is always a
key for horror film posters, throughout the age
of horror moves the antagonists has changed
now in the new decade on “010’s” most horrors
have a little girl as the antagonist which is
evident in this short film, however hiding that by
re placing herself with a monster was a good
way of allowing the audience to see the poster
and understand that this may be a horror and
not a thriller.
6. Too Sum Up
• My poster connected with my short film through the
use of imagery, I hinted the narrative to the audience
with symbols that implies the plot and also involves all
the significant characters and messages in the short
without using Jason (The main character) so it does
not give away the whole story.
• The fonts use connect to my short by helping
audiences associate the colours and font styles to the
genre the film was shot in it.
• The text also shares the same themes explored in the
film e.g. “FRIDAY THE 13TH” which is known for a day of
evil a day of bad luck. As well as the tagline
highlighting the idea of loneliness and what that does
to a Person.
7. My review
The main focus of the review was to write in a LWL style using there manner, tone and realistic vocabulary. This then
places my review out of the concept of synergy because I could not personalise it in a scourge like manner i.e. have a
black coloured spread with red writing changing the layout and visuals of the page to make it fit the genre. However
through the writing I tried my best to link the concept together.
Highlighting the
theme shown
8. Shown on the slide above
are some key words in my
article I used to hint and
promote the message my
team intended to spread
whilst also suggesting
potential themes
explored within the film.
Using particular words
like “Lonely”
But to continue pushing the connection
between the 3 different products I choose
a significant image in the film where it
instantly gives away the concept of the
film. I choose this image because it gives
the impression that someone is watching
him and that someone is something we do
not know of.
