This document discusses how the author's media product represents social groups. The front cover features a guitar and bands from different rock genres to appeal to classic rock fans of all ages and both males and females. The contents page also features a neutral layout showing different aspects of rock music to attract a wide audience without focusing on age, gender, or other attributes. Images used in articles similarly feature rock bands and musicians to represent fans of recent rock music across genders. Social factors like class, race, sexuality, religion, and disability were not explicitly considered but would not change the overall product.

1. How does your Media product represent particular social groups?
Looking at the picture that I have used for my front
cover, and the fact that I used a guitar as a prop,
relates to the other rock magazine covers, such as;
Acoustic, Classic Rock and Guitarist. I think it will
grab the attention of the classic rock fans as it is a
more laid back image used for the front cover. The
bands that have been mentioned on the cover also
spread out across the whole rock genre, so that
anyone who would be a fan of rock music would
appreciate this magazine.

2. The bands that I have used in the footnote of the
front cover are different styles of rock that suit
different people. Because of the bands and artists
that have been mentioned on the front cover as a
whole, I think that the magazine could relate to an
audience of all ages. I also think that the front cover
for my magazine could grab the attention of both
males and females who are interested in reading
rock magazines. Thinking about social class,
race/ethnicity, sexuality, religion and disability, I
didn’t take any of these into account when I was
making my front cover in Photoshop. If I did take all
of these things into class, I think that I would end up
with the same product that I have now.

3. Using pictures on the contents page
of a live band playing would relate to
fans of rock music who like to see live
bands in action, then they would
want to read the review. The fans of
this band in particular have a very
large age range and is not biased
towards males or females.

4. Looking at the contents page as a whole,
it relates to every aspect of the rock
genre, like Kerrang! magazine does. It is
also a similar layout to Kerrang! as I felt
it was a simple layout that worked well.
It is a neutral layout as it doesn’t fit
better with either the younger or older
audience, but it gets the information
across to the readers. Social class,
race/ethnicity, sexuality, religion and
disability weren’t taken into account
when I created my contents page, but if
I did take them into context, I think I
would end up with the same final
product.

5. For the images on my double page
spread, I used a larger image to cover
the right page. This image is of one of
the band members playing guitar. I then
took a staged picture of the whole band,
made the image smaller and fit it into
the middle of the article. Judging by
these pictures, the fans of this band
would be older teenagers/young adults.

6. The musicians and fans that may relate to this particular style of music will be the
people who are fans of recent rock music. The layout that I have used to create
this double page spread is simple, yet effective and has all of the codes and
conventions that a professional double page spread has and needs. The gender
that it would reach would be both males and females. When creating this double
page spread, social class, race/ethnicity, sexuality, religion and disability were not
taken into context. If I did take them into context, I feel that I would still end up
with the same product.
