By Callum Wilson
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My magazine ‘Amplify’ ‘repeats’ (Steve Neale) some codes
and conventions from Mojo magazine. The code and
convention that was ‘repeated’ is the ‘star appeal’ of the Mojo
magazine Paul McCartney's facial expression, which ‘repeats’
on the star appeal of Amplify, and also the centering of the
cover star. The challenges I have made like having a long
shot of Tom, making the masthead centered on the left of the
magazine are different from how it is displayed on the Mojo
magazine
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
S I have repeated the addition of the editor as it is seen in
every magazine for every issue. And they give a little
explanation about the magazine and thank people for
reading the magazine. The headline in my magazine is
presented differently to what the inspiration magazine is as
I challenged why kerrang put the name of their magazine
next to the headline (contents), as it looked unnecessary to
have the masthead of the magazine that should be on the
front cover in the contents page as well. I also challenged
the use of their images
In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
S My double page spread I used Q magazine as
inspiration, I used an interview with Ed Sheeran
as seen. The main image is a long shot of my
‘star appeal’ looking off into the distance. I put the
image on the right of the double page spread
different from how Ed Sheeran is presented in Q.
this relates to Neale theory of challenge as I have
changed the inspiration into my own idea to suit
my target audience for my magazine. I then put
the pull quote from the interview and put it above
the main image and part of the interview to make
it stand out. The layout of the interview I have
challenge and put a border around the text and
changed the color of the text so that the audience
can see who's asking and answering the
questions.
