In what way does
your media product
use challenge or
develop forms and
conventions of a real
media product?
• When researching recent products my group looked at many
thriller films which included films such as insidious and orphan
which we analyzed within depth. With in the group we also
looked at about 15 to 20 other films to get many different
ideas
• Anaylzing these trailers both mentally and psychically we
found out that the typical conventions were >
conventions
Usually had a protagonist and an antagonist.
Had many close up shots so that we were able to analyze the
the characters facial expressions.
Also had a scare shot and also a title card and some credits.
There was also a lot of fade ins and outs from scene to scene.
A lot of jump cuts and fast pace action to show what's going on
within the movie .
The soundtrack has a slow pace ire type of track which builds up
a lot of tension.
Also there's dialogue of the main character talking or sometimes
there’s a narrator telling the background story.
What we ended up using?
• In our thriller movie we ended up using some of the typical
conventions such us|
• Flashbacks
• Jump cuts
• Fast pace editing
• Many transitions from scene to scene
• We also had an ire soundtrack from the beginning and some
dialogue of the characters talking.
• Credits & text cards.
• Close up and medium shots.
How we challenged our genre?
• We didn't’t really challenge our genre we just conformed and
developed our ideas. For example we didn't’ want to give to
much away and we didn’t want to the audience to get
confused of what was going to happen within the film so we
kept everything simple from the story to the narrative.
• When doing in-depth research within our thriller genre we
find out that it doesn't’t really follow a narrative within the
trailer and it tries to confuse the audience as they don’t want
to give the story away within the trailer. Which is exactly what
we did.
• As well as looking at trailers we also
analyzed magazine and film posters which
are also used to promote the product.
• Red writing to show the signs of death
and danger.
• The color brown of the image and
background to show the past of the old
which is a main issue within the film.
• Credits which show who helped produce
the film
• The title so the audience actually know
what the film is called.
