Quantimetrica has developed an ultra low power voice activation system called the QM1 that can trigger external devices with a custom voice prompt. The QM1 uses very little power, has a small PCB size, and includes an algorithm filed for patent that is robust yet portable across different hardware. It is meant for applications needing a short voice trigger on low-power devices, filling a gap between high-powered voice assistants and simple voice-activated switches. Potential markets include controlling appliances, machinery, and devices in areas like labs, mobility aids, and wearables.

The network already connects tens of thousands of objects in France and international cities.
SIGFOX provides an end-to-end solution for your communication chain, from your objects through to your information system, with unprecedented pricing models and low energy consumption.
As a network operator SIGFOX operates fixed-location
transceivers enabling your objects to be connected “out of the box”. However contrary to the telecommunication networks, the SIGFOX transceivers and the entire SIGFOX connectivity solution has been developed, built and deployed to only serve the low throughput M2M and IoT applications. As an operated longrange network, SIGFOX provides connectivity without the need to deploy specific network infrastructures for each application.
Unlike other narrow band or white space solution providers we do not require our customers to invest in network equipment, the SIGFOX network is simply available to any object equipped with our certified connectivity solutions.
From an application point of view, the SIGFOX connectivity solution functions as follows:
• SIGFOX compatible modems are integrated within the physical objects by our certified partner network
• The objects instruct the modems to send messages whenever and wherever needed
• The transmitted data is picked up by the SIGFOX transceivers, and routed to our managed service
• The SIGFOX servers verify the data integrity and route the messages to the application’s IT system.

présentation de Christophe Fourtet (Sigfox)
Abstract: Traditionally electrical appliances in a home are controlled via switches that regulate the electricity to these devices. As the world gets more and more technologically advanced, we find new technology coming in deeper and deeper into our personal lives even at home. Home automation is becoming more and more popular around the world and is becoming a common practice. The process of home automation works by making everything in the house automatically controlled using technology to control and do the jobs that we would normally do manually. Home automation takes care of a lot of different activities in the house. this project we propose a unique System for Home automation utilizing Dual Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF) that is paired with a wireless module to provide seamless wireless control over many devices in a house. This user console has many keys, each corresponding to the device that needs to be activated. The encoder encodes the user choice and sends via a FM transmitter. The FM receiver receives the modulated signal and demodulates it and the user choice is determined by the DTMF decoder. Based upon this the required appliance is triggered. Dtmf access the control unit, the user should send an authentication code (DTMF) along with their quire/desired function/action to his/her home control system via Global System for Mobile communication (GSM). Upon being properly authenticated, the cell phone-based interface at home (control unit) would relay the commands to a microcontroller that would perform the required function/action, and return a function completion code that would be sent to the source of the original command (user’s cell phone).

Google Voice Assistance Based Smart Home AutomationGauthamG4
The idea behind Google assistant-controlled Home automation is to control home devices with voice. On the market there are many devices available to do that, but making our own is awesome. In this project, the Google assistant requires voice commands. Adafruit account which is a cloud based free IoT web server used to create virtual switches, is linking to IFTTT website abbreviated as “If This Than That” which is used to create if else conditional statements. The voice commands for Google assistant have been added through IFTTT website. In this home automation, as the user gives commands to the Google assistant, Home appliances like Bulb, Fan and Motor etc., can be controlled accordingly. The commands given through the Google assistant are decoded and then sent to the microcontroller, the microcontroller in turn control the relays connected to it. The device connected to the respective relay can be turned On or OFF as per the users request to the Google Assistant. The microcontroller used is NodeMCU (ESP8266) and the communication between the microcontroller and the application is established via Wi-Fi (Internet).

Quantimetrica Ltd., is a London, UK based company
with a significant telecommunications and
quantitative skill-set, formed in July 2013. They
specialise in audio related internet of things (IoT)
hardware and software.
In a nutshell: what problem
is solved
Quantimetrica have developed
a p o w e r e f f i c i e n t v o i c e
activated proprietary system
that can trigger any external
piece of hardware via a
custom voice prompt.
In IoT, many more appliances
without high processing power,
will need to work via a voice
trigger efficiently and with low
power consumption.
The system controls devices or
applications:
• by voice remotely
• w i t h o u t a n i n t e r n e t
connection
• using ultra low power
• b y d e t e c t i n g u s e r
presence to shut down
redundant devices and
conserving energy.

spectrum
Quantimetrica focus at the other
end of the spectrum from Apple’s
‘Siri’, Google’s ‘Google Now’ or
Microsoft's Cortana where the
need for a short voice trigger
which is low power, robust and
easy to port (and sufficiently
small in order to be affordable or
even disposable), is distinct from
large application, intensive high

devised by names such as
Malaspina, Sensory, Rubidium,
Nuance, Qualcomm etc.
Quantimetrica have developed in-
house a unique algorithm that is
robustly responding to short voice
triggers (and hence implemented
in low memory devices at low
hardware cost) and is coded in
such a way that it can be ported
with relative ease to many
different platforms. The firm has
filed for a provisional patent with
the United States' Patent and
Trademark Office (henceforth
USPTO) for the algorithm and its
power saving features.
The algorithm's uniqueness has

Competition
On one hand companies such as Malaspina, Sensory,
Rubidium, Nuance, Qualcomm operate with much
higher end/power requirements. At the other end,
the focus is in utilising an internet connection or
with clearly “always on” or with still higher power
consumption or implemented in more expensive
chipsets (e.g. DSP processors or FPGAs), much
restricting the application space.
The solution in the context of applications and
markets
Voice controlling electrical appliances, theoretically
gives one access to the 5.5 billion people who own
at least one such mains connected appliance (World
Bank 2012 data,78% of a 7bn total population).
Out of 7bn population, 1.32bn reside in the
developed world and with access to at least one
and, on average, 4 mains access points.
The US alone with 308mn population has 118mn
households for which this product could provide
tangible benefits in the manner described here. In
terms of the Global microcontroller market in 2008
this was a $13.75bn market. More specifically (Gran
View Research, June 2014)
• 17.4bn units in 2013, expected to reach 39.1bn
units by 2020, growing at a CAGR of 12.3% from
2014 to 2020.
• 32-bit microcontrollers (the category used by
Quantimetrica) accounted for over 34% of the
market in 2013; the segment is further expected
to dominate global market revenue over the next
six years. It is also expected to be the fastest
growing product segment, at an estimated CAGR
of 13.0% in terms of volume from 2014 to 2020.
2
Average power consumption becomes
99.7% of (1) + 0.3% of (2) = 0.389mW or
0.22mA
NOTE: this can be lower at fewer (than
50) 5 second activations per day
NOTE (at 1.8V supply):
(1): Listening for sounds at 0.35mW
(2): Processing at 13.3mW (but only for
5 minutes per day in total)
3. Products, opportunities and deployment for “voice switch”
In partnership with semiconductor companies, Quantimetrica can fit QM1 into every
day ‘less smart’ applications at home, the office, the factory or as explained earlier in
a variety of mobile devices as well. As such QM1, a form of a voice ‘switch’, may turn
applications off or on through certain voice inputs. Multiple such voice operated
devices can co-exist responding to different trigger words each.
Since 1.32bn people in the developed world have access to at least one application
via access to the electricity grid powering such application, there is ample opportunity
for providing a real benefit with this system.
Therefore with access to microphones and the
CPU, it is possible for appliances to trigger
many more of their functions remotely through
voice. The client segments for QM1 are
smartphone users, alarms, home and industrial
machinery, office equipment, cars, portable
devices, ships, trains, airplanes. Broad areas of
application in:
• Laboratory Issue voice commands when
user's eyes cannot be taken away from a
specific target (e.g. while operating a
microscope, telescope etc)
• Mobility Practical interface for such users finding
it difficult or impossible to use devices that are
by design small enough for portability (such as
those having small buttons and screens for their
use, e.g. glucose meters, sphygmomanometers,
insulin pumps etc)
• Wearables Display-less tiny mp3 players can be
considered, as well as fitness trackers and other, where the voice trigger cost
can outoutweigh the LCD display cost.
The firm’s voice trigger technology
incorporated as firmware upgrade
into existing appliances’ CPU could
f e a t u r e a n y w h e r e w h e r e
m i c r o p h o n e s a r e p r e s e n t
(cameras,toys etc.)
Quantimetrica plan to create such solutions that will be small and cost effective to
run. The algorithm has been developed as a low cost, low complexity solution that
reacts to a few simple words with the embedded system market as the target, so
that it could be manufactured at high volumes using low cost components. The
hardware is currently switching a LED on with one trigger word and off with another
one, but the LED signal can be routed to a relay to switch any mains operated
appliance or machinery.
It was made in such a
way as to be speaker
independent, requiring
no training.
