On May 10-11th, Katherine attended the first annual EBSCO User Group meet in the US city of Boston. Katherine was there on the invitation of the EBSCO User Group committee, made up of university librarians and EBSCO staff. This two day conference was inspired by the UK and Nordic user groups and this first meet-up was a great opportunity for Librarians from all over the US to come together and talk about how they are using EDS. Katherine an update on the major topics and trends which came up in the conference, and give some insight into the role of the EBSCO User Group in the US and the differences between the US and UK usage of EDS, and this lead into a wider discussion about changing role of Librarians in the UK and US.

Librarians at Oklahoma State University have developed a three-credit course titled, “They Wouldn’t Put it on the Internet if It’s Not True: Information Literacy in a Post-truth Society.” This course, first offered during the fall 2017 semester as an elective Honors Seminar, covers traditional information literacy concepts, such as search skills, citations, source evaluation, etc., but also seeks to provide a critical lens through which students can examine information structures. Intentionally incorporating issues of race, class, orientation, and privilege encourages students a critical understanding of how awareness of, and access to, and the quality of information have demonstrable impacts on social, economic, and political well-being of individuals, especially those within marginalized populations. Students are provided with the space to grapple with these concepts, as well as opportunities to interact with real-life applications of information literacy beyond the classroom. This presentation details the development of the course, highlighting areas where critical pedagogy was incorporated into readings and class activities, reflections on successes and failures, and student reactions to the course and individual topics. Presenters also share examples of student work. Attendees will gain insight into practical application of critical librarianship in information literacy instruction.

Our research investigated common reactions to, and perceptions of, archival research, particularly in how various users approach finding aids. Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management. The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM). This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
