The titles differ – as the
prelim task is very boring
whereas the music magazine
uses a logo like NME
I have learnt how to use
Adobe InDesign as I
thought this was better
than Microsoft Publisher
which was very basic.
Colour schemes – I learn
that it was important to
stick to the rule of three
colours
Rule of left third used on
both magazines to make
them noticeable on a
magazine rack
Adobe InDesign allowed me to use a The front cover does not hold much text or

effective than just using

Also, the page numbers
stood out to readers
Both use three
images, however for my
final magazine, the
images are arranged
differently whereas the
prelim look quite boring.
I think because I
researched into the
fonts, this made my
final magazine look
more effective
The arrangement of the text and the photos look more neat and tidy on my final magazine this is because of the programme I learnt to
use – Adobe InDesign allowed guidelines whereas Microsoft Publisher does not and this is shown as the photos on the left hand side
are very out of place and disorintated.
4. Overall...
• I think that the preliminary task was good for me to learn my flaws
in my ICT skills which I have quite clearly improved with the help of
practising using programmes such as Photoshop to edit main
images to make them look as neat and perfect as possible.
• The more research I did for the music magazine allowed me to
recreate other music magazines I have seen and pick out things that
I found good and bad about them, whereas, for my prelim task not
much research was carried out as school magazines are not as
popularly distributed as music magazines.
• However, the preliminary task gave me the confidence to approach
the music magazine as it gave me a basis of structure a magazine
needed e.g. Rule of left third, photograph as a main image, and the
content of a contents page such as an editors note.
