Q.6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
1. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this
product?
During the making of my film I utilized and was introduced to many new forms of
technology. One of the most important forms of technology was the internet, mainly
www.blogger.com. It allows you to create a blog and upload pictures, text, videos,
PowerPoint presentations etc. This is where I kept a record of any work I did, and any
changes I made to the film or planning during the process of making it. This website
allowed me to view my progress as I went along, and also allows for an easy way for me
and my group mates to share work and ideas with each other. It can seem quite complex
at first but once I felt confident using blogger.com it became very useful. I also learnt to
use other websites such as www.youtube.com, which was a useful resource when
conducting research as it allowed for me to watch the openings of other thrillers. I am
also able to embed from videos from YouTube onto my own blog making a very
important form of technology. I also used YouTube as a way of receiving feedback from
audiences about what they thought of the film. Another useful website was
www.slideshare.com, this is where I learnt how to import PowerPoint Presentations and
Word documents and has proved very useful for my blog.
I also learnt how to use other forms of technology, such as iMovie HD which allows you
to effectively edit videos, using different effects and transitions to create the exact kind of
you want, as well as being able to include and take away sounds. We used iMovie in our
film with the example of the non-diegetic lullaby playing in the background.
When making the film we used a Canon digital DV camera, this camera was not very
advanced but none the less it was new form of technology which I learnt to master.
When using a camera you must learn to use a tri-pod, as learning to use a tri-pod is
essential if you want a steady shot, although we did not use a tri-pod in every scene due
accessibility, we used one whether ever possible to steady the shot of the Canon digital
DV. The Canon digital DV has to have a tape inserted, therefore I had to learn how to
rewind the tape on and off the camera in order to effectively manage the amount of
space on the tape. The camera was able to zoom in, and out which was a tactic that had
to be applied carefully while filming. I also had to learn how to upload clips from the
camera to the computer, using the USB.
