- 3. InDesign Adobe InDesign isa desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create work such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. I used This software to actually create my magazine on. Advantages - Everything on design is inserted into layouts, therefore this means you can work on separate layers of your posters at a time. - InDesign has a lot of edit effects you can do to yours text! different sizes, fonts, shapes and spacing. Disadvantage - You cant edit the images in the program who have to do this before. - Is very confusing to understand. The strengths of using this software to create my magazine is that we can press “shift W” so see the what the final magazine will look like. Also another strength is that we can use the layers to do it bit my bit and improve one part without effecting another. The Disadvantages of us using this program for our magazine is that I found it very confusing to use and kept forgetting to put a new layer when adding new things. Also the program doesn't have a wide range of shapes, in my magazine I wanted to add different shapes to my magazine yet the program only had a square and Circle.
- 4. Photoshop An image editingsoftware. Photoshop is considered one of the leaders in photo editing software. The software allows users to manipulate, crop, resize, and correct colour on digital photos. I used this software to edit all my photos before inserting them into adobe InDesign. Advantages • you can quickly and easily import videos and photos into the software. Once imported, everything is neatly organized on the screen. • Most of the edits regularly done on photos can be completed with a single click. Disadvantages • The main disadvantage of Adobe Photoshop is its high price tag. Adobe Photoshop costs much more than most of the other photo-editing software. If you don’t plan on using the software professionally, it is not worth the high cost. • Not for the Novice User: Despite the fact that its quick-edit features are simple to use, this software was not built for the novice user. It is photo-editing software designed for professionals who edit photos regularly. One strength of us using it in our coursework is that after you edit a photo in Photoshop it is then very easy to insert it into InDesign. Another good thing for using it is that you can do almost anything with the image, which in my case was good because I could delete the background because stereotypically pop images have a plain white background which can be difficult to do! The disadvantage of my using this is that Photoshop is very confusing if you don’t get how to use it therefore it was very confusing to work and I didn't use it to the software full capacity.
- 5. Blogger Blogger is awebsite containing a writer's or group of writers' own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other websites. I used blogger as a software where I kept cataloguing my progress of my coursework. Advantages Blogger is very and easy to set up and you don't need any technical knowledge to use it. Also It’s easy & quick to update and add new photos. Disadvantage Everyone can see straightaway your post when you blog it therefore you need to make sure what you post it suitable for everyones eyes. Writing blog posts can be very wordy and take up a lot of your time. One strength of using blogger is that it is a way of showing my progress through my course work throughout the time space. Shows how Ive progressed and it there online for me to refer back to. Also it is a way of looking at your peers work to see how far they are in there coursework and see how there progress compared to yours. A disadvantage of using blogger is that it is all online therefore you need internet to update your blog, sometimes finding internet can be tricky which means you cant access your blog. Another disadvantage is that someone could hack into our into our coursework and mess and delete things which could destroy my whole coursework.
- 6. Microsoft Word Advantage - Easyto use therefore you don’t need a good technical knowledge to use the software - Microsoft word has many features. Microsoft Word is a graphical word processing program that users can type with. It is made by the computer company Microsoft. The purpose of the MS Word is to allow the users to type and save documents. Disadvantages - The program sometimes crashing therefore you may loose all your work. - Microsoft word costs a lot of money to download and buy. One strength of us using word that I found was that most computers have the software on it therefore you can save it on your Jpeg and open it on most other computers, also you can send our work to our teacher for her to mark it and she will be able to open it. Another strength is that it is easy to use therefore you can use the software quick and its not that time consuming. A disadvantage of Us using the software is Not everything is best to do in Word, even though it can sometimes be done we use other programs, such as Publisher, which are more specifically designed for a certain purpose.
- 7. Prezi Prezi is acloud-based (SaaS) presentation software and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. I have used this program to show my analysis of different pop magazine and also my evaluation questions Advantages - By using Prezi rather then PowerPoint or Keynote your presentations may be a lot more creative. Your Prezi presentations can be a lot more engaging then PowerPoint or Keynote Disadvantages - Unfortunately, the free account with Prezi limits you to basic functions. If you want more tools and options you will have spend a little money - Quite a big disadvantage is that no audio can be added to Prezi presentations One strength I found of using this program was that it saves it self automatically and I can open it on the internet no matter what computer I have. Another strength I found of using this program was that it was a different technology to use so I didn't always use the same software's like PowerPoint and word One disadvantage of us using it is because it was a new software it took ages to get use to it as it can be quite confusing. Another disadvantage of using it was you couldn't print from it! I like to print my work out to prof read it whereas I couldn't do this with the software.
- 8. MacBook Air The MacBookAir is a line of Macintosh ultraportable notebook computers from Apple Inc. The Air was designed to balance both performance and portability, consisting of a full-sized keyboard design, a machined casing made of aluminum, and a very light and thin structure. I used this to take my videos for my evaluation and analyzing of a pop magazine. Advantages - Long battery life 4.5 - 5 hours under "normal" conditions - Innovative technology allows you to "share" DVD drive from networked computers (Windows or Mac) Disadvantages - Lack of common ports and connectors - Only 3 connectors available ◦ USB port ◦ Headphone jack ◦ mini DVI port for connecting external display One advantage of using my MacBook air was that it has a good quality camera therefore I used it to video myself and my peers. Also it is then very easy to then upload the videos onto my blog. A disadvantage of using the MacBook air is that it has different software's compared to other computers so if I start a document of work on one I'll have to finish it on my MacBook.
