This document tells the story of Thomas Edison and his path to becoming one of the greatest inventors. As a child, Edison's teacher sent a note home saying he was mentally deficient and expelled from school. However, his mother believed in him and taught him herself at home. Many years later after his mother's death, Edison found the original note which actually said he was a "genius." He became very emotional and wrote that his mother turned him from a mentally deficient child into the genius of the century. 7. One day, as a small child Thomas Edison came home from
school and gave his mother a note from his teacher. He
said his teacher gave it to him. To young to read, he gave
it to her and he asked what it said.
Her eyes welled with tears as she read the letter to her
son.
“Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him and
doesn’t have good enough teachers to train him. Please
teach him yourself”.
Many years after his mother death. Edison became one of
the greatest inventors of the century. One day he found
the letter sent home to his mother and he opened it… the
message said:
“Your son is mentally deficient. We cannot let him attend
our school anymore. He is expelled”
Edison became emotional and wrote in his diary “Thomas

turned him into the genius of the century”.
